    Emma a little tip, always handle seedlings and plants by the seed leaves. That way if you break a seed leaf then the process of photosynthesis isn't affected. If you were to break off your only true leaves the plant would likely be a gonna

    Try using a kitchen fork to prick out as helps to loosen the soil so less chance of snapping the stems 😊

    Make sure to keep the celery compost/soil moist/wet constantly. Celery is a bog plant that would grow in marshland and by water, so overwatering isn't a problem for it :) If you do not keep it well watered, the stalks will end up being quite hollow. I found this out when I first tried growing it (In pots), so last year I made sure it had trays under the pots so that when the water drained out it would still sit in the tray and I had a really nice crop. They are much stronger than store-bought celery, great in soups and stews! (I didn't earth mine up to blanch the stems however, which does make it milder).

    I’ve found much better germination with proper seed compost Emma. Then transplant on. As someone else said plant beans into cardboard toilet rolls, I keep them in an empty cardboard shoebox with foil on bottom, then transplant without disturbing the roots. Works very well, also do this for my sweet peas.

    Climbing beans are best sown in toilet roll inners, since then you can plant the growing plant straight into the ground without disturbing the delicate roots. The cardboard roll will breakdown in the soil.

    If u can get your hands on some tree leaves put a handful in the bottom of the hole before u put the plant / flower in

    Your explanation on seed compost that seeds need no nutrients to flourish and will not flourish if they get all they want .Does that mean all the seeds you planted in multi purpose compost won’t flourish as most have at least 60 days of feed added to encourage plants to grow. I sow seeds and pot on into multi purpose compost but I do sieve it for sowing seeds ,and have used it for many years, I believe seed compost is unnecessary and an expensive gimmick. Will need boggy to wet ground for your Celary to flourish will get tough and stringy if not. But you do cheer me up and make me smile.

    • @emmasallotmentdiaries
      @emmasallotmentdiaries  ปีที่แล้ว

      I also think seed compost is a waste of money. I think the idea of it is that seedlings are forced to be stronger if they are deprived of nutrients, but my seeds always do ok in multi purpose! X
