    I truly do not understand the team that is in charge of detheming the Disney Resorts. Bob Chapek basically sabotaged Disney by hiring these designers from Las Vegas, a city that once had themed casinos and resorts but is now seeing generic hotels replace them. This team needs to be fired ASAP!

    • @amarchhabra2175

      Agree - I use to love Las Vegas and the themed resorts. The detheming sucks. Also - all the newer hotels look and feel the same. Example: Aria and Resorts World. Worse thing ever is the selling of Mirage and it being converted to a Hard Rock.

    Fort Wilderness had its own River Country water park (which used the lake water) to drive home the 'wilderness' vibe. They had a little steam engine train which ran around the ground to drive home the wilderness theme. And finally that little restaurant with the rockers on the porch. They're all gone and it's sad that wilderness theme is disappearing

    The cabins at Fort Wilderness were our very favorite place to stay. And a big, big part of the appeal was how well the entire resort - including the cabins - were themed. This is so disappointing. It seems as if every time there's another announcement coming out of Disney these days, it's something that makes me glad I've been spending my vacation dollars elsewhere. And that's something I never, ever thought I'd say.

    Brayden, All this de-theming just makes me sad. It’s extremely hard to understand the level of ignorance when it comes to removing the immersive experience Disney use to be known for. Theming was a signature part of Disney’s magic and what set them apart from other lesser family vacation options. And yes, sightlines were part of theming and sadly that too is a bygone consideration.

    The log cabins were perfect for Fort Wilderness. They were roomy & comfortable, albeit a glorified trailer home, but it fit in great with the theme of the campground. IDK how to describe the look of the new “cabins” other than it just doesn’t fit within the theme of being in a campground.

    Growing up, Fort Wilderness was my family's favorite resort to stay at. We'd camp in a travel trailer or tent, or splurge on a stay in the cabins. Now that I have a family of my own, it's been a hope of mine to create similar memories with my kids. I am heartbroken over the dramatic stylistic changes they're making to the resort. That modern, shipping container, tiny home look could not be more out of place. I legitimately teared up when I saw the concept art, and definitely not in a positive way.
    These changes to Fort Wilderness and other resorts are ripping out what makes Disney resorts worth the extra money imo -- the theming. You're 100% right that the team responsible doesn't understand the product, nor do they seem to understand that it's possible to give a resort a fresh look without gutting the theme entirely.

    Brayden, I completely agree with you. The resorts are losing their immersive themes with the sparse generic "update" they receive. The new "cabins" design reminds me of shipping crate tiny home and has similar lines like Reflections. Since they would have been neighboring resorts, it makes sense to tie them together, but they look out of place in a campground. I also suspect that they are manufactured pieces since they expect to have some of them open next year. I think the sleeping arrangements are terrible in the cabins so I won't consider them.

    My thought on the cabins is this: If I were looking to buy a small vacation cabin, I'd *much* prefer the new design. If I'm looking to escape from reality and immerse myself into the idea of staying in an old frontier cabin, I'd *much* rather have the existing ones.
    It's sad that they don't seem to care about fans anymore, and are just looking to cast the widest net for people with the most money to spend. It might make good business sense in the short term, but I still question the long term strategy. The number of "once in a lifetime" visitors is a limited resource, and as prices continue to increase, will become an even more common idea for visitors. Disappointing, alienating, or driving away the fans who keep coming back year after year, sometimes multiple times a year, may not pay off.
    Then again, the executives in charge right now will have gotten their bonuses and cashed out their stock options by then, and won't care what happens to the company once they're gone.

    Brightline train is exciting, as is Annual Pass sale, but really only if you are a Florida resident. Is this a way for Disney to encourage Floridians to support Disney World’s existence in Florida? Or to buy into DVC? I see what you mean, Brayden, about the designers seeking an upscale luxury-vacation look in terms of detheming. But that’s not what I want. If I were in a cabin at Fort Wilderness, I would want to feel like I was camping with Mickey and Donald and Chip ‘n Dale! I would want rustic-looking cabins! Is the “new generation” of visitors really that much different from me? I think maybe they are aiming for the super-rich market who take Lindblad Expeditions to the Galapagos and Antarctica, not the middle-class American saving for a year so that they can afford a great Disney World vacation. On my vacations, as in my home, I want to be surrounded by a cross-section of society, not just rich people with rich people problems.

    I hate the detheminng! It started with the Disney Stores, spread to Disney property stores and now has come for the resorts. If I wanted to shop at the gap or stay at a Marriott, than I would and do. When I go to Disney I go for the transporting quality that is slipping away! I Dread seeing the mess Disney is going to make out of the Grand Floridian and worse the Disneyland Hotel Paris!
    Btw- have you seen the remodel of Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. It’s beautiful, a clean, contemporary sushi bar. Problem is that it’s supposed to be a New Orleans, French quarter southern creole restaurant!! Like you said, beautiful designs that just miss the mark on creating a set time and place!

    Has anyone here watched the Imagineering documantary series on the Disney+?
    A recurring theme throughout all of the episodes is that when Disney invested into making something the best it could be, people flocked to it, and it made back tons on the investment, short and long term.
    And whenever the bean-counters took over and did things on the cheap, people didn't come, and the projects lost money or weren't sustainable.
    Over and over, consistently.
    One would think that the execs at Disney who are responsible for the decision-making should watch their own documentary as required viewing. It's a great history lesson.

    My Son and I are going to Disneyland this Wednesday, was saddened by the dragon burning. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge in Florida last month, we like the theming. Real into MickeyViews.

    The announced prices for brightline are utterly ridiculous. You can fly to Orlando from ft Lauderdale or Miami for almost half the price. It really is a giant failure. I was amazingly excited for this.

    • @buddykarl944
      @buddykarl944 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I’ve heard, the price is dependent on ridership. The more people ride (consistently) the more pricing will be lowered. But if the Tri-Rail ridership here in South Florida (Miami to West Palm Beach) is any reflection on Brightline ridership, I don’t think the price is coming down anytime soon. That and a lot of people here in South Florida don’t seem to understand just how fast these BL trains go & try to go around the crossing gates & end up getting smashed by the fast moving train. Plus, in South Florida, BL shares its rails with the Florida East Coast Railway (who owns the tracks).

    It seems like some regular people are starting to pick up on the de-theming Disney has been doing for decades. You put it pretty well, saying they like to slap IPs on things nowadays and call it "Disney", rather than it being the immersive experience they used to be known for.
    I started to notice this with the Living Seas overhaul in EPCOT, but you could argue it goes back even earlier.

    Moana actually works great in the Animal Kingdom theme unlike Zootopia. Her story sees her interact with Animals real and imagined. Along with this her entire personality comes from her connection to Oceanic Nature and her love for adventure. All of these are apart of Animal Kingdoms identity

    • @matthewnelson5699

      Zootopia in Animal Kingdom is absolutely a ridiculous idea if you care anything about the theming and purpose of the park. I can’t wrapped my head around these absolutely terrible ideas. Disney has no idea who they are anymore- only the fans seem to know.

    • @luma4902
      @luma4902 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kinda agree but i think moana should not be as heavily feature in animal kingdom as disney plan to the aquarius and the moana attraction that already exist are in Epcot besides countries and parts of the world are in epcot and disney has a lot of animal focus movies that could fit better i mean they have the lion king a beloved animal focus franchise that showcase a lot about the animals themselfs and it doesnt have a actual ride in animal kingdom

    • @tylerhfroemming
      @tylerhfroemming ปีที่แล้ว

      @@denisemcgilvrey3966 tell me why exactly- did you read the points I made. In my mind it’s one of the few films that can work in that park.

    • @denisemcgilvrey3966
      @denisemcgilvrey3966 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tylerhfroemming I was agreeing with you regarding zootopia. However speaking to Moana, I don’t mind characters sprinkled into animal kingdom. But whole lands built on a character just makes DAK what every other Disney park is morphing into. And her connection is to water which though obviously is nature, it isn’t animals. If there were an ocean- themed land, an inclusion of Moana could work well. But I’d rather not see entire IP based lands spreading throughout DAK. I know we already have Pandora now but even that strayed from the original vision.

    Bob Iger should hire Braden and let this young man go add it. The majority of what Braden says is why we all USE to love Disney. Unfortunately I’m an old man and what Disney continues to do makes the odds of me ever going back slim to nil. My wife survived cancer one year and we were just happy with that. Christmas was fast approaching and I suggested we go to Disney for 10-11 days before the mad rush. We had such a GREAT TIME and it became the one thing we did ever year for like 15 years. The last time we were there they had just shut down the train and started Tron. Then all the BS started and neither one of us cares anymore. I did promise I’d take my granddaughter when she turns 10. Pop pop will probably just finance and abbreviated trip for her and I’ll stay home. I’m so sorry the clowns ruined what Walt and Roy created for all of us to enjoy. I’ll keep praying things will change but I doubt it will happen.

    Its nice to say de-theaming rather than what it really is, the cheaping of Disney. Most people never rode the train around Ft Wilderness or went to the petting zoo or canoe rides to the campfire jamboree. So you won't miss what you've never experienced, thats the current Disney Experience Cheaping.
