I am scheduling my first discovery flight tomorrow, I hope the instructor is like lew. After a 20-minute video, I feel like lew's one of those old friends from primary school you lost contact with for years.
This is the way to engage with students lol. I am slowly breaking down my instructor to loosen up with the language and berate me in a funny way if I make a mistake and it's working. He's super cool as it is but i'm at 16.5 hours into my PPL now and he's starting to realize who I am and that I like to joke and also that I am going to drop a few fucks on the comm's when speaking to him. Now we're really starting to have fun. Great job always keeping a fun environment Lew.
@@octavia1amazing I'm now at 47 hours and close to checkride. I had one chunk of 3 weeks where I couldn't fly due to winds/weather out here in SoCal then another 2 1/2 week period of no flying due to the same thing. I am going to knock out my long XC solo when I return from the holiday travels and then train strictly for checkride for 7-10 hours. Feelin good!
Great to see JD back, even if only for the discovery flight with his friend. This is what flying is all about, Lewis! I love to see first reactions of a new aviation lover. I'm sure he'll be back. Can't wait for the conclusion, brother. @BeardedAv8r
Great content Lewis!! I’m currently working on my CFI and I like how you make these discovery flights engaging and offer the student the chance to ACTUALLY learn! Just GREAT stuff!
I wish you had done my discovery flight. I had my first one a couple weeks ago and it was terrible. No real instruction and it felt like the instructor was just trying to get it over with. After it was over he shook my hand and that was it. No trying to sell me in the school. No log book entry. Nothing. Even after I told him I was considering becoming a pilot for my career 2.0. I love watching your videos and seeing how at least some people get their first experience in a positive way.
Love this! I found myself wishing the video was longer! Taking someone flying for their first time and letting them take the controls for a little bit is one of my favorite things to do. Bravo on this video! Missed ya!
I 100% agree with showing new people glide ratio. I see so many students come thru where im training at thinking when the engine goes out they fall out of the sky lol ...... my little plane has a 15:1 to 17:1 glide at 63-75mph No flaps.......... thats a long way even at 1000 AGL ... could give you almost 3 miles in calm conditions. The other scare factor for me is Light Sport + thermals = roller coaster and potentially getting your cardio and spinning workout in one flight lol ..... Still cant wait to get my plane back to FL soon. My LewDix shirt is back home in FL waiting for me !!!
My discovery flight (what we call trial introductory flight) mother nature wasn't as kind as you were to your student. Heavily thermal day and bouncing everywhere. My instructor was taking bets that I wouldn't return and another person who was gun ho would return for their PPL, and it turned the other way.
Love your discovery flight videos Lewis, the way you let your students have control for even the most critical moments of flight. Definitely a top notch instructor. BTW your hoodies are excellent quality ;-)
16:20 lol for a moment i thought you were actually gonna show him how the plane indeed falls like a rock down, with no power gliding and starting to bank lol....
Just had my discovery flight today, takeoff was absolutely terrifying, because it’s like fu%k I’m committed now 😂. I was busy staring at the instruments the first half of the flight. As I started to relax more I looked out the window (beautiful view). I just have to work out of my mind every bump doesn’t mean we’re crashing lol. Oh and for the people who are scared of heights, I won’t go up a 10ft ladder, but I had no problem looking down after the bumping started to freak me out less.
CFI, “Welp, you lost your engine. What do you do?” Me as student pilot, “Speed. Spot. Setup…………… and kick the guy out who thought it was funny to yank back the throttle.” CFI just looks at me…… I just stare right back. Do you know how much I miss those days?
Me, the lesson after I got my new ANR headset……. “Wow, I think there’s something wrong with my headset.” CFI, “What’s up?” Me, “Dunno. Everything is so quiet and comfortable…… but this headset makes my CFI sound like a little bit$&.” CFI, “Why you little, “ as he turns off the intercom….. I had to land without any instruction……… To this day, one of my better landings, one of my most stressful moments, and one of those times I miss my CFI and myself always digging at each other. When you find the right instructor, you just know.
I feel like it's not your usual standard to teach a landing on the discovery flight (other than modeling your own). Maybe you are endorsing this aircraft theft idea...

I passed my PPL checkride yesterday but I'll never forget my first flight & first solo. Two of the most exhilarating moments of my life.
Congratulations!

Discovery flight with Lewdix...., you get out of the plane Instrument Rated...
😂
Discovery flights are one of my favorites!
Mine too!
Took a discovery flight last week. What a treat it was. I just wish I could find a CFI in my area who doesn't have a wait list for flight training.
JD and Lewis are literally the best duo ever 👌
🙌🏻 I miss flying with him

It’s all about finding that rapport with your instructor. Sounds like you’re well on your way!
Love it! Loosen 'em up. All the best on your journey!

Love your videos, you taught this guy more in the trial flight than my last instructor taught me in 10hrs.
Thank you so much! Im sorry to hear your last instructor wasn’t so good!

Great job, as usual, on a Discovery Flight. Excellent instruction and fun! 👏👏👏
My first flight we went and found my house, Ive even got a print out of a picture I took that I need to frame.

Great job guys!
I hope JD is still flying....he's hilarious
I was wondering about that. As someone who quit 😢, I hope he keeps at it!
Randc47 I also quit.. I got my License back in 2017,, just lost interest or something I guess
Good fun!!
Love this video, great to see you giving such great training

Good morning from Crete!

The more you f up, the more I get paid LMAO
Are you in Orlando?
How do you get in touch with lew? Other than this comment section, anyone know what airport he teaches out of? Thanks in advance!
What state are y'all at? Would love to have my discovery flight with you all someday! ❤️
Did you get to land?
Where are you located?
JD ever take his checkride and get his PPL?
Unfortunately not. He stopped training but I have hopes to get him back.
