What a day! It doesn't get much better than this. The only way it could be any better is if you had a LewDix Aviation checklist - the BEST checklist I've ever created. Get yours here: lewdixaviation.com
What a great day, relaxing and watching the thunderstorms roll through. How could it get any better? Well,l I orderd a LewDixAviation Cessna 172 Checklist! Haven't flown for 25 years, but Lewis has inspired me, and I'm going for my AGI and PPL! Thanks for making a great day even better.
The first controller is my son, he's a trained pilot so he understands what Ella is going through. Very proud of him, he does a really good job! Congrats Ella on your first solo! Kudos to your instructor.
That first controller is my son, who is also a trained pilot so he understands what she is going through. He does a really great job! Very proud of him. And congrats Ella!
That's impressive. I'm a student pilot with 43 hours and judging by this video, Ella is probably a better pilot than I ever was. Congrats on your solo!
The barks after PIC hahahaha... CONGRATULATIONS ELLA!!! You are a pro! Nothing like having your instructor root for you. The smile and proud in every landing is awesome.
What a wonderfully satisfying video. Congratulations, Ella, that was an excellent first solo! You've been taught well. Props to your instructor, he obviously cares about his students. Those of us who've had more than a few instructors (since 1976 for me), know that if you find one that cares about your progress, stick with them.
Absolutely great Ella! Bravo and congratulations. Great situational awareness (she detected the balloon!) and DM. Bravo. Outstanding radio skills too. She is so calm and situationally aware -- impressed!!!🎉🎊
Congrats Ella! Great Performance and perfect decisions. 🎉🎉🎉 Did my own solo in a 172 48h Hours ago and it is an amazing feeling. 😊 lewdix, we love your content. From Hamburg with love❤
Ella. Youre incredible. You’re an inspiration. Great job. You’re beyond your years. It was such a great experience watching you. You’re a young lady with years of a great life ahead of you. I’m 72/years young and just now thinking of learning to fly. So, guess I’ll find out if I’ll be able to do it. Sending you a hug…you’re amazing!🌹
You’re a great guy LewDix. Not only do I watch and feel so happy for the student pilots journey, but I also feel your own personal energy happiness and satisfaction through the film which is actually emotional🥲in moments. You should be very proud LewDix the gift you have sir. A great watch and superb editing. Even at 53 and a non pilot it’s really exciting and interesting to watch both Pilot & CFI journeys ❤👏👏👏Welcome to the Sky indeed
Ella: 1st, let me say: I've been rooting for you from lesson one. 2nd WOW! You did amazing on your first solo. You're now a pilot! Love your radio calls, and your aircraft control. The go-around was "EPIC"! There may have been an audible "YES", on every greaser. ;) Lewis: 1st, Uhhhhh... "I like to get up early for, for solos..." yeah....LIAR! We all know you hate getting up early. lol 2nd, The reaction and the feeling you showed of Ella's piloting skills is what makes me want to be a CFI. I've been waiting months for this very video. Thank you! Some of the best aviation content on the internet! Until next time.... Bearded_Av8r
Just wanted to drop a message before I watched the whole video.. What a beautiful sunrise 🌅 Well done 👏 that was amazing and the ‘Go Around’ was a great decision 👊🏼👊🏼
Dude, seriously! Ella is a bad A-dbl s, in my book! She did remarkable! And so did her instructor! I couldn’t be more proud of both of you! You two really “mesh”. Don’t take your foot off the throttle! Thank you for posting!
Ella is such a cool customer! I'm surprised that the tower tried to run a squeeze play with a student pilot, but even though Ella didn't stick it, she did a good job of staying in command. I have two tips to give from my own experience. 1) Don't try to climb with full flaps even in a go-around. On a good day, a C172 can produce more thrust than the drag of full flaps, but only on a good day. You don't want to exit ground effect until you have started to clean up. 2) Whenever you are moving the flaps, add a glance at your flaps to your scan to verify they moved to the position, because the flap cable can fail and you'll want to know. Especially during a touch-and-go, look over your shoulder to verify flaps 0 before departing the ground.
Aspiring pilot here. I’ve watched hundreds of videos. I wish all CFIs I’ve seen were as easy going, fun, and reassuring as LewDix. You sir are a great one!! Keep it up!
Congrats Ella! It is very satisfying to watch a student pilot solo! Mr. Lewis, your skills as a very good CFI make a huge difference in a student pilot learning curve. 👏 👏👏
Thank you for actually sharing videos of your students actually soloing I’m so tired of another utuber who shall not be named - click baiting us for over a year now claiming his student was ready/close to solo and still has not shown us Thank you again David
I remember my first solo like yesterday. No other feeling. Especially when you look over and no instructor, plus the aircraft climbs like never before!
great job! it's been fun watchign Ella's journey. She lands so much better without all that excess weight, and great goaround! 16:40 lol the excess weight again
Great video once again. Solid job of managing energy Ella and awesome ADM as well. I really enjoy being around the FBO when students are going first solo. I just remember how special that day was for me. Like Ella, I was lucky to have awesome instructors who were genuinely vested in my safety and success. Keep up the good work Lew.
Well done Ella! Actually, excellently done. And may I compliment you on your go around decision. Wise indeed. I got goose bumps and a big smile on your final landing. You must be proud, as is Lewdix. Craig Clarke, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Congratulations on your solo Ella, 🧈 landings and good luck on your aviation career you’re going to be a great pilot!

What an inspiration! I am around four lessons short of my first solo, and happy to say, my CFI is also of the right kind. Looking forward to the experience here in Western Norway. Thanks a lot, Ella and @LewDixAviation
Great job Ella! Now you can come to teach me because those landings were better than the ones I do even though I'm a CFI haha. A day you'll never forget! Great decision to Go Around!!! So happy for you.
This was a great video, congrats Ella! I did a go around on my first solo as well, because of a bouncy touch down. I learned an important lesson that day, go around is your friend, not anything to be ashamed of. Good job Lewis and Ella!
Amazing day! Congratulations! I wish my landings were / are this nice. Consistent airspeed and butter landings...just WOW! "Look at that greassah!" - he said it right! Woohoo!
Congratz awesome job on the first solo patterns, demonstrated amazing PIC skills as Lew said in regards to the balloon and go around, happens from time to time to the best of us but when handled appropriately it's a non-issue. Very lucky to have Lew as your instructor so take advantage of that and learn all you can from him while you have him. May your skys be blue and your winds calm, and always keep the blue side up. Good luck on the solo xcs coming up your gonna love them. 😊😊
Love it. I would really enjoy seeing some of your cross country phase training as well. You're an awesome instructor man. I hope to be as good when I get there.
congrats to Ella but that controller/s needs a gift card man! He was so calm and direct asked exactly what Ella needed in busy airspace Kudos whoever you are Controllers, that awesome.
I’m e been waiting for this video to come out. Ella is such a great student she will make an incredible pilot when she finishes her training. I wish some of my landings were as good as those! Keep up the good work 👍
On my solo flight I did the same as Ella, on the third landing the wind changed and the flare was very unstable and I balloned the skyhawk and push full throttle and go around. The fourth landing was great. Congratulations to Hella! She won her wings!!
That is a great video and I just loved the professionalism of how she handles every situation. An amazing pilot with an impressive instructor. And I must admit that I was neither as sophisticated nor as good with my first solo. But that was over 30 years ago and I had no motor in my glider… I want to pretend that the lack of go around possibilities makes you a bit more scared. 😅😅🙈🙈
Not gonna lie Ellie has more confidence than some commercial pilots I’ve seen and flown with. Including the radio. Love to see it she’s gonna kill it finishing her training
That was awesome! Congrats to Ella and to you! Seeing this brought back memories of my first solo at KJKA back in 2020. (My CFI grabbed his portable COM and then told me he had to go "take care of business' and had me pull up next to some grass by the runway... LOL!)
Love seeing this, I wish my first solo was as smooth; having it at a towered airport probably would have helped; I could tell she was being rushed with the traffic behind her though, adding variables like that for a newer pilot can be challenging, she made the right call on the go around though! Great work for a great team!
She did really great! Her radio calls are excellent. The clearance for takeoff call was a big one and she did it all from memory. Good stuff. I would have written that crap down lol.
Wow!! That's super exciting!!! Good for Ella!!! I always love watching people solo for the first time! It always gets me excited to want to go fly!!😁😁 Do you dump a bucket of water on them after they solo?😃

She's really good on the radio, good job 👏
Yeah I found the radio was one of the scariest parts of learning. 😁
She missed calling number 2 in the first transmission whilst she was following the cherokee, but other than that you are right she is great
Congrats Ella! think ATC deserves some kudos too, it sounds like they were looking out for her.

The controller put a little pressure on her with the go to numbers someone is 3 miles behind you. Made the right call to go around.
I love how the ATC is tending to her and speaking clear and slow and supporting her

Congratulation Ella. I still remember my first solo vividly.
