    One of the nicest musicians met him 10 years ago... showed so much grace and humility... to those who say his technique is lousy I would say pound for pound he is one of the best musicians walking on the planet... Perfect voice, fine hammond player and damn good guitar player to boot...

    When I see him interviewed I always think geez, how many superstars behave like this ? Really not many. He's always so unaffected & genuinely engaged in the conversation. No bluster or bulldust at all. Most actors and top singers are still acting all the way through their interviews. They just can't help themselves. It's so obvious that he was just 100% made of music from the very start. Also, as previously mentioned, he's in awful good shape for a 60 year old ! Guy just amazes me

    I'm a fan of that man from the beginnings of the Spencer Davis Group! He is top class and very authentic, (which is rare in the poprockworld!). Buy his nine lives CD and discover very good music and a golden voice.

    even when eric is my all time hero guitar player, winwood is amaing. Just listen dear mr fantasy in crossroads fest 2010, with eric. Great. But in 2007, in the same fest he played it alone and his guitar solo, without been difficult, it´s one of the most emotional and incredible solos Ive heard in my whole life. Ive recently disovered him and in 2 weeks I am a fan.

    The interviewer is a tool. .." pretty good " guitar player?? Winwood is - as he said- a jack of all trades - and brilliant. Ive always loved the guy. Seems as sweet as he looks in the old Traffic footage. A gentlman- as someone has said here. Love whatever he does. Cant say enough. And Traffic,,,,oh my goodness...*sigh* ♥

    a humble saint

    • @petratical
      @petratical 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, a saint. Just look at his lyrics in "Higher Love"
      Think about it, there must be higher love
      Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
      Without it, life is a wasted time
      Look inside your heart, I'll look inside mine
      Things look so bad everywhere
      In this whole world, what is fair?
      We walk blind and we try to see
      Falling behind in what could be
      Bring me a higher love
      Bring me a higher love
      Bring me a higher love
      Where's that higher love I keep thinking of?
      Worlds are turning and we're just hanging on
      Facing our fear and standing out there alone
      A yearning, and it's real to me
      There must be someone who's feeling for me
      Things look so bad everywhere
      In this whole world, what is fair?
      We walk blind and we try to see
      Falling behind in what could be
      --------------------------------------
      He is speaking of God's Son, Jesus Christ who loved us, John 3:16 and 1 Peter 2:24. Both speaking of the same "Higher Love".

      Steve has a 'second' home in Nashville. If you're international you develop traits in your accent, some things remain, some get lost and come back. Keith Emerson lived in LA for years, but still referred to 'the store' as 'the shops'.

    The footage Steve talks about here at 3:30 of seeing Jimi Hendrix on local Nashville TV I showed him in 1990. In 1995 I interviewed Steve and Jim Capaldi and they spoke at length on their memories of Hendrix. It's pretty compelling stuff. You can check it out here : th-cam.com/video/CUcupwMwouw/w-d-xo.html

    @anthonythirteen He's a Brummie, a posh Brummie now... the vowels are really Brummie expect for "u", which he now pronounces less "oo" than the Brummie way... listen to how he says the word "band": it is very Midlands...

    I don't like the interviewers attitude at all, he is basically answering his own questions. i don't like that style of interview. you have to wait for the answer, you don't put words in someones mouth. but with that being said, winwood a class act. he sounds SO british. SO elitist and yet he has always been a humble, down to earth guy. he sings so different to how he speaks. funny when you think about it..

    notice the significant delay in his responses - clearly a lot going on upstairs. or perhaps the aftermath of many, many drugs when he had long hair. i will let the fans decide. i want to see him and ozzy in a debate. but in all seriousness, i love his 80's synth music. love it.

    • @laurasmith1330
      @laurasmith1330 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hes older now. Hello. 60s was a drug fest but he came out of it really good. He looks really good for almost seventy something. Compare him to other musicians his age.

      Nothing to do with drugs etc. He thinks before he speaks not speaks and then think what a stupid thing I've just said and that is how we english speek. He's a clever gentleman.

  • @gcmc2
    @gcmc2 15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Glad U're not criticizing his music. I think U see, though that most are puzzled by Ur comment. If U came to enjoy & share on Winwood, why do U look to criticize ? I don't understand. U want to criticize his accent when most of us are talking about WHAT he says & his respectful nature. U want to attack him for the jacket he's wearing ? It's just so empty & irrelevant. Guy IS one of the greats. History will identify that - not his choice of jacket. Sorry - Ur post is just too silly for words.

  • @gcmc2
    @gcmc2 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, it's amusing - there's always something at the root of it with guys like this. LOL - I did catch your "humpphrey" reference. I think it is quite likely right on. It is the case with a lot of these types. Complete lack of interest from the opposite sex is probably pretty tough to deal with.

  • @reteipdevries
    @reteipdevries 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr W. Should not talk about Dave Mason like that. Mason is a great musician in his own right and Mr. Fantasy is the one great Traffic album there is. Mr W. has probably lost Stevie Winwood.

    If you hear him talk it is right away clear why he didn't become a real star. He is an uninteresting, whiny guy. The real stars are intelligent, articulate and funny. Stunning musician and singer though.

      I've listened to the interview and can't seem to find where he's been whiney???. JACK BRUCE, CLAPTON AND JEFF BECK, along with GINGER BAKER, have said that he was miles ahead of the lot of them at the time, and getting a compliment from GINGER BAKER, is more or less unheard of. 👍👍👍

  • @anonymusum
    @anonymusum 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never said he can´t play. I only said that technically he is very limited on keys. And sorry - "Glad" - I just listened to it - could be played by every piano student after three or four years of good lessons. Nothing special about it, just standard riff work.

  • @anonymusum
    @anonymusum 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He wanted to bring classical components into Traffic´s music. That´s a nice joke - as if he would have been able to do so. Even today his keyboard technique is lousy.
