  • Steve Winwood and Muff Winwood interview on "Island 25" July 4th 1987. This was a live broadcast that ran for three hours. I recorded the full show including commercials using a Sanyo M40 HiFi VCR. I no longer have one of these machines, so the tape was replayed on a Sony C9 Beta Stereo VCR

Steve Winwood is one of my all time favorite artists. There’s something about his songs that just hit me where I live and fill me with joy. His music is exuberant, positive and uplifting. If you look at everything he writes about, most of his song have the same basic themes: love, hope, encouraging listeners to not give up, to look on the bright side and to keep going.
Although he was very successful and produced many hits, I’d say he’s still pretty underrated in terms of his songwriting ability and talent. You rarely hear him mentioned when people discuss the greatest pop songwriters of all time. But the man is a songwriting genius.
He’s a musical savant and auteur much like Prince-writing and producing most of his albums almost entirely by himself, even down to playing all of the instruments too-he’s a genuine multi-instrumentalist.
But not only that, he also possesses an intuitive understanding of music theory and knowledge of chords, with the ability to write extremely catchy melodies and hooks. He’s the very definition of a musician.

I thought he never wrote the lyrics. Or am I wrong? I don't like his post-Traffic solo albums. Very commercial, but I suppose he wanted to make money.

60 years he’s been in the public eye
    1960s prodigy and teen idol
    1970s rock n roll star
    1980s pop star
Now one of the many elder statesmen of the music industry.

For such a genius, he's kept a relatively low profile when it comes to social media, etc.
