3 questions for Dave: 1. When is the last time he played the sitar? 2. Are there songs from his past that he no longer is comfortable playing? 3. Why didn't he take over Fleetwood Mac instead playing 3rd fiddle and not even playing on all the songs?
I am a big Dave Mason fan and already pre ordered his book. Always enjoyed his music. Feeling Alright listening to Dave. Saw him about a dozen times and is always a great concert.
Ask Becca Bramlett how it was working in Fleetwood Mac with Dave….or anyone else who has worked with him for that matter. Dave’s not an easy guy to get along with.
That version of Fleetwood Mac with Dave Mason only lasted two years at best (1994-1995) There was an album & a tour. It was the worst selling album by Fleetwood Mac, and the tour was unsuccessful. Mick Fleetwood quickly dissolved that lineup after the tour dates ended as he wrote in his book. Dave Mason was in Ringo's Starr All-Starr band in (1997) but was dismissed during the rehearsals before the tour started. Ringo kept a tight-lid on what transpired. I have always liked Dave Mason playing. As for how he operates in the studio, on the road, the writing process, or with his bandmates is a bit of a mystery. A talented cat for sure.
I once read somewhere, that Steve, Jim, and Chris would come in the studio and work songs up sort of like the Beatles in get back. But Dave would come in with a finished song he wrote, and then tell the others what to do, and how he wanted them to play it. I can see where the resentment came in !
When someone’s answer is “the book, the book” or, “it’s in the book” what do you think I’m NOT going to do? That’s right, I’m not going to read the book
It seems like he only agreed to be interviewed to plug the book but gives away nearly no information making for one difficult interview for you John. ☹️
I remember reading in Cream about the very ugly sessions that Traffic made their way thru. So the details via Dave Mason should bee interesting. I still enjoy his 12 string work on All Along the Watchtower with Jimi.
From what I understand, Steve, Chris and Jim had formed Traffic with the understanding that it was a group effort with everyone sharing the processes together, composing, lyrics, ideas. Then Mason shows up, writes some songs on his own and says, "they're my songs and we're going to do them the way I want them done " Yes, Dave's songs brought Traffic some early hits, but Dave's songs were taking Traffic in a direction that collective Traffic did not want to go. Hence the difficulties.
I don't see the point of this interview. The interviewer asks a clear cut question and all Dave Mason does is say "read the book" or meander and never give a precise answer. If you don't want to answer questions why give an interview. Having heard Mason, I think Winwood was not the problem.
As far as I understand, the filmed interview with Jim and Steve was part of an overview of Traffic they filmed for the Hall of Fame. Dave was interviewed separately, which is why he doesn't appear with them. Segments(?) of both interviews, with the 3 surviving members (at the time), were almost certainly shown during the HOF event, or at least the part with Dave was. But yes, Winwood has pretty much removed Dave from Traffic's history. Also, I don't think Dave will stray in his book far from the narrative he's given in the last 15 years or so: he left the first time because he was "inexperienced"; the second time, he was fired (following a disastrous American tour, but he won't admit that). Steve recorded with Dave some tracks on Dave's album in 1987 but really seems to have closed the door on him after Jim Capaldi died in 2005. Dave had a complicated relationship with Jim Capaldi too - and the two were friends since they were 14!
Wasn't Dave in the Traffic reunion group? I saw them with the Dead, I believe, a bunch of years ago. I THOUGHT he was there. I also remember a show he did at Universal HA! Just he and Capaldi. I thought it was great, but most people walked away. They were expecting a party like the one with The Beach Boys a few days before.
Steve, Dave, and Jim at least performed together during the final jam on “Feelin’ Alright”, but Dave really should’ve performed with them on “Dear Mr. Fantasy”.
You know he's a creative genius just by the awe inspiring cover and deep title of 'Alone Together'...btw - did we really need a 3rd version of "All Along the Watchtower" in the same year?
Such a shame when two amazingly talented people work together and then have a falling out. I'd be interested in his time with Delaney and Bonnie as well with Clapton and Harrison as the guitar line.
Dave and Steve should of mended fences long ago...the music they never made. Their bandmates are dead so please play some songs although 55 years ago he left came back for live from Cantina
Dave and Steve are both awesome and a huge fan of both. It’s too bad they can’t make some music together or play together one more time. It’s kind of like Supertramp. Too bad 😔
I know he wants to sell his book, but I can't understand what the point of doing an interview is if you won't answer any questions.

He can write the book, "How I lost my English accent after only 5 years of living in North America"!🤣🤣🤣
I know right I always thought he was American, he has absolutely no hint of an English accent
Sooooo true ha ha
And his hair
Mason has totally lost his British accent..crazy
And Mick Fleetwood can live in California for half a century and still hang onto his! What gives?

Steve Winwood is a gift to humanity.
I get it... it's all in the book. But give us something here.
Interview Mr. Winwood
This interview with Mason is like all the others. He gets cagey and weird about revealing anything. A very talented and frustrating person.

He did write their biggest hit.
His “Alone Together” album on the now defunct Blue Thumb label is my favorite of his
Traffic, Wow! One of the greatest bands ever!
Hopefully they'll make up while they're still above ground. Not a whole lot from that era remain😢
@@erichinton5774 unfortunately not happening. Dave has expressed many times wanting them to collaborate. Steve does not seem open to it.

Stevie Winwood is notoriously hard to work with since he is such a perfectionist
Crying to be heard great song.
Well, that was hard work!
lol ... awkward

I just love this man, thank you Lord for Dave Mason🙏😄
Paper Sun is my favorite Traffic song and Dave played a great sitar part on that song.
That was strange. Feel bad for you.
John :” What time is it Dave?”
Mason: “You’ll have to buy the book”.
I don’t think so. Bad interview through no fault of John’s.
Dan Ropek's Tragic Magic: The Life of Traffic's Chris Wood is the best Traffic biography available.
Technically they did all jam on Feeling Alright at the HoF induction. The last true traffic reunion.
But why is Dave on the show if "its all in the book".

Live CD album with Capaldi is excellent.
Buy the book... Oof.. yuck what a nut haha
I always thought Dave Mason was American because he has absolutely no hint of an English accent😂
Is James's book out yet??
Steve, Dave, and Jim at least performed together during the final jam on “Feelin’ Alright”, but Dave really should’ve performed with them on “Dear Mr. Fantasy”.
Musicians in London were scared of the kid from Birmingham coming down to London.
Huge2 fan of both.
Why can’t he talk about it? How weird
You know he's a creative genius just by the awe inspiring cover and deep title of 'Alone Together'...btw - did we really need a 3rd version of "All Along the Watchtower" in the same year?
It’s always been said Mason was not liked in Traffic, left, was asked back because he could write songs better
ahh rock star egos................
Yeah but Dave Mason was also on the cover of Traffic's second album, so I'm thinking he was on that album as well.
Such a shame when two amazingly talented people work together and then have a falling out.
I'd be interested in his time with Delaney and Bonnie as well with Clapton and Harrison as the guitar line.
That's why I think the WORLD of the ROLLING STONES!
Dave was a good addition that’s all and I’m not buying his book.
What a weirdo.
He just wasn't that good except for in his mind
Dave and Steve should of mended fences long ago...the music they never made. Their bandmates are dead so please play some songs although 55 years ago he left came back for live from Cantina

Geez, Dave is a tough interview - it's like pulling teeth. Reminds me of a Lou Reed interview. Two unhappy guys. I wouldn't buy this prickk's book.
Why bother with Dave?
Ask Dave about recording with Jimi.
Love the second Traffic album's version of Feelin Alright. Every live version of it is bleh for me
❤
I'm outta here!...not your fault...Gil from Texas
Steve and Dave...for shame! Kiss and make up already!
A friend of mine was a lived in a flat in the same building and once told me that Steve was very arrogant to everyone alledgedly.
