  • I try to get my resin 3D printed molds as shiny as CNC Aluminum molds. I try several different coatings and find a clear champion.

Same here, sprayed rust-oleum high heat, and added worm oil (for better demold reason), and it turned into a gooey mess. I guess the spray paint doesn't stick to plastic that well, maybe it would be OK on metal.

    Hello !
    Why not make a counter-mold?
You can pour RTV silicone at will.
You can sand the positive surface of the decoy with a very fine grain to make it smooth.
You only have to do it once and you will have shiny counter molds in a material that lasts for years with 60 shore hardness for injection.
You can even use a fluid epoxy varnish to make it super smooth.

Mostly because why do all that work when I can print the mold directly that will also have the same properties. I can print more at will, multiple copies at the same time. I have done the silicone mold process before but it is simply much longer process for the same results.

For the service life, several years without damage / deformation much more economical.
With 10 counter-molds you can make 10 molds in less than 3 hours.
I saw it in that sense, but it's mostly for the life.
But I understand your point of view.
Too bad the CNC is so expensive
Sorry for the translation, I'm following you from France, thanks for the videos!

      Your translation is great!
Service life remains to be seen, I have one mold with 120 uses and counting with no issues, this is not FDM, it is resin, Siraya Tech Sculpt, that is made to handle higher temperatures and not deform. The only issue I can seen is breaking from not handling it properly, Silicone does not have that issue of course. In the end if you have a process that works for you, that is all that matters!

Have you tried enamel engine block paint?

Can I please send you my file? I made a mold of a bellows gill, and for the life of me, worm oil, vasaline, mold releases nothing is working, it sticks so bad to the mold, nothing works... I'm not sure if it's a bad design, or bad plastisol, I'm thinking it's the plastisol
