It is my understanding that HP custom made them for the telecommunications industry. They probably placed it on the catalog to see if they could make any additional sales. When technology changed in the telecomm industry, there was no longer a need for anything with an output amplitude that precise. (nothing in the catalog that I have seen can do ruler flat amp within 0.02db)
I own one, they are ruler flat from 200 HZ to 80MHZ within 0.02db!!! The output attenuator broke on mine, and now the output is always 20db below what you program on the front panel. Does anyone have any idea about how to work on the output attenuator?
I just looked at the service manual. There is a section that details how to service the attenuator, but strongly suggest that the attenuator be exchanged for a new one via their "attenuator exchange program" long since gone. It may be cheaper and less frustrating to find a parts unit off of eBay.

It was very helpful. thank you.
I had to refer to the manual a few times but overall, the operation is fairly straight forward. Thanks for watching.
Nice
