At the position where he resigned, what happens if white plays dark-squared bishop to D3? The checkmate is defended, black's rook is under attack and once white's rook is captured, the queen captures the knight. So worst case, you lose your Rook.

One #suggestion which maybe against some chess principles(?) or even silly, but i still want to give a try (or gain some suggestion).
As a beginner, I always struggle when using the black pieces because I am more familiar with the board position where the white pieces are on the bottom. Most videos on the internet, no matter if they are a game analysis or a teaching video, are using the board position with white on the bottom and black on the top. After playing chess for 4 months I am still lack of confidence when using black pieces.
So the suggestion is, when doing the saga, in some videos, is it possible when the main character of the saga is using the black pieces to reverse the chessboard, so that the beginners can see how these masters play with black pieces from some kind of First-person angel. Maybe in only one or two videos, the classic ones, just to let the chess analysis from this angle exist. (I know maybe most of the people don’t have this kind of struggle, as a beginner maybe I am just a minority, so the suggestion is not to make all the videos in the way. There should of course be a balance.)

Huey Sharapova so in that context Chess is getting more and more extinct right ? As more and more games are played. It’s not like football or tennis where you get to see a new thing every time coz it’s about the player and not about the play itself. Like a new player means a new thing. But in the case of chess it is not so unfortunately right ?😓😶

Starting from h4 Lowenthal perhaps saw only ..Qd7 and Qc8 came as a surprise. It was a clever plan to deal with ..b4, just a bad one.

Tal sets you thinking about 2 + 2; Grishchuk about an inverse, 4 ÷ 2; Do you partition 4 into aliquot parts as above, or as 3 + 1? Such thought provoking questions make chess interviews lively!☺

#suggestion I think what happens to Morphy;s opponents is that they lose confidence and think they have to try new and unusual moves to try and surprise or unsettle him. In reality, when facing opponents better than yourself (in any sport) the best thing you can do is remain solid in your fundamentals and look for chances when they occur naturally.

“What kind of mouse slip can occur in 1858”? This wasn’t exactly an era of cleanliness... toilet buckets were emptied onto streets, disease was everywhere... during Morphy’s turn, Lowenthal stood up to clear his head. When it was his turn to play, he walked toward the board, arm outstretched, and just as his fingers grazed his chosen piece... he stepped, and in turn slipped, on a little mouse who had been scurrying around the playing area. His piece was accidentally pushed to the wrong square, and this is how we got the term “mouse slipped”.

Lowenthal pushed h4 but didn't know what to do afterwards because Alpha Zero wasn't around yet.

Alternate theories for the seemingly inexplicable h4 by Lowenthal:
    1. Lowenthal was suffering from the early onset of COVID-1858.
    2. Lowenthal had just finished watching a series of blitz games by Simon Williams and was just way too eager to throw Harry into the fray.
    3. The h-file was Lowenthal's main plan for getting his rooks into the attack, but then he became distracted by Morphy's casual demeanor and somehow completely forgot his plan.
    4. He thought he could trap the knight with a poisoned pawn but didn't think it through.
As intriguing as the first three theories are, I'm going with #4.

I'm gonna guess that h4 was just another 19th century pawn sacrifice. Basically, they didnt know what positional chess was back then, since everything was about sacrifices, so lowenthal probably just gambited a pawn on principle. Reminds of that b5 move in the evergreen game

I think he forgot about the knight. If he had been able to push that pawn it might have opened up the black king. Maybe. Or maybe he slipped on a mouse running along the floor.

Instead of resigning what if white moves Bd4. Yes, you lose a rook for a knight as the Q guards that square, but this move also stops the mating threat.

It was indeed a mouse slip, when an actual mouse jumped onto the board as Lowenthal moved his piece, leading to the mouse hitting his hand in mid-air which caused the mouse to slip on the board. The event was caught on video in 120fps slow motion and is considered Top Secret by the FBI.

Me: *Instantly sees knight captures pawn to end the game.*
Also me: "No, that's stupid. There's no way that move would do anything but lose the game. There's no point in even exploring it further."
Moral of the story: I need to trust myself and my instincts more.
