First of all, a huge thank you for this video and your spreadsheet, it's helped me a great deal. I have something for you to add to your spreadsheet if the car does nothing when turning the key. And that's that the immobiliser may have kicked in, in my case the solution was to replace to immobiliser antenna coil around the ignition barrel, and believe it or not it was as simple as replacing that and the car started working again. First I tested that power was going to the coil with a multimeter, a video by CarsNToys explains well how to do it! I pulled the replacement part out at a salvage yard. One thing to keep in mind is there is a clip that's easy to break when pulling this out, I think that clip might be crucial to the part working, as it holds the coil snug around the ignition barrel. Many, many thanks dude, really appreciate your time and effort in these videos! :)
Rx8 immo light on. Customer tried to pull away and it stalled. No start after or crank. Fuse blown and new fuse blows instantly 15a for ecu. Obd scan and basically no instrument, no abs, no ecu, no power steering. Fuse that blows is 5 down from the back. A blue 15a. Any ideas
Hey man how are you, I bought a Manual chassis and a brand new engine. I can tell the motor is in perfect condition. I’ve checked almost everything new starter. Injectors look new. Changed the coil pack cables, still just crank. It only starts when I add starting fluid but shuts off after 1 second or 2. I thought my problem would be the fuel pump but I clamped a longer hose to the fuel rail line, with a bucket to see if it was spraying to the motor and indeed it was. Any help would be gladly appreciated
Nice! If the ESS is the reason the car won't start, usually cleaning it does the trick rather than replacing it. The ESS is one of those things that either works or it doesn't, no in-between. Idk if everyone agrees with this next possible solution, but from my experience, sometimes resetting the NVRAM (20-brake stomp) can be the magic trick to getting it to start again at least. just my $0.02
Cleaning connectors does wonders. But if there is an electrical issue, only a test could tell if it needs to be replaced. I agree with The 20x pedal pump. It's like closing a million applications and seeing how the phone works faster and smoother :) Thanks for your $0.02, they are much more valuable in my currency

Hello Driven by Madness, I love my 2004 Mazda RX8, I have had a few learning experiences, and pretty good at problem solving, but nobody in MURRAY, KY Smalltown USA knows how to work on them. I drove my baby a few weeks in the summer, while my truck was having work and my Mazda sat for 2 months, and she started but had absolutely NO POWER, then died. She has been sitting at a mechanic shop now for several months, and I am not sure if I need to haul her to a dealership and troubleshoot or give up. I have never been a quitter, but she has a new radiator, new front bumper assembly, and hood due to my negligence. I really don't want to give her up, do you have any advice?

Hey buddy would love some advice. Going to do the ls2 upgrade very soon, but I don't think this is my problem currently. What would cause my car to randomly have an electrical freak out (needles going crazy, doors locking and unlocking) happened when I went to start it for the 3rd time today.
reset the ecu. 25 brake pumps fast and strong. just turn ignition on and do the pump. ignition off and start the car. second thing is to disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for 1h. reconnect it and see if it helped. if not, take it to mechanic. Engine is not a problem if it runs well. More likely an electrical issue.

Hey man I have an rx8 that doesn’t crank when I turn the key.. I’ve replaced battery and checked if the new battery I put it is good and it is. The car sometimes turns on and sometimes it doesn’t. Ive also pop clutched if you know what I mean and it turned right on but the last time I tried to pop clutch it did not work but after like 5 minutes I tried to turn it on normally and it turned on... any help please??
I wrongly connect stoich afr gauge signal wire to ECU....now the car only cranks but not start....pull out the wire again still not start....turns out fuse blown EGI comp 2...replace with spare fuse and runs like a champ again
I found out where it comes from, but i don't think there is a fix. I have one more option to try before i surrender. Thanks for reminding me of that, i forgot about it :P
D S clicking is a sign of weak/bad battery. Check the cranking amps and have it tested for a bad cell. If 1 cell is bad the rx8 won't want to turn over.
yo man ive been having trouble with my 2004 mazda rx8 since this monday figured it would be the starter bc all the lights came on when i put the key in an try to crack it but there was no noise that came out the car that sounded as if it was cranking so i went an took out my alternator to see if it needed to be changed or not an it came out good samething with the battery but the night before i cold started it an parked it in the garage bc it started to rain an turned it off immediately after. so i dont know if i flooded my engine or what all i know is when i try to start it is that i dont get any cranking just a weird noise that sounds like its coming from the alternator...
Test the battery. If it was flooded it would crank but not start. Try using another cars battery and see if it does the same, or use a battery charger to charge yours to full capacity. Let me know :)

1st off I want to say I love your vids Driven by Madness. Braveheart, I had the same thing happen to me. I bought my 04 RX8 about 6 months ago. It was said that it had a bad engine because of trouble starting. I replaced the spark plugs and battery but it still had a slow crank. 1st off, if you didn't let the car warm up to operating temperature then more then likely you flooded it. 2nd if it has no crank at all it's definitely your stater so buy a new one and make sure it's the upgraded one. Then after you install it, hook your battery back up (disconnect it before installing the stater) turn your key to the on position so your dash lights are on. Then repeatedly stomp the brake about 20 times until you see oil pressure gauge jump and go back down (this resets the ESS). Turn the key back to off position then back to on position but don't crank yet. Do this about 3 times (or until you hear the cranks get slower) put your foot on the accelerator and push it all the way down (this cuts off fuel from being pumped into the engine) then crank for 10 seconds then turn off. Wait bout 20-30 seconds then do it again (be sure to have the accelerator all the way down). This burns up the fuel (defloods it). Once the cranks have gotten slower (this is what I did) when you're cranking slowly ease off the accelerator and it should start, if not try to start it a cpl times after that without touching the accelerator. Hope this helps.
Also, if I had to guess..the noise you're hearing well may be your air pump..that is perfectly normal. Alternator has nothing to do with starting your car so that's definitely not the problem. Even with a flooded engine you should still get a crank..my guess is you need a new starter if there's no crank. A new one upgraded is about $150 with core exchange.
Catalytic converter keeps overheating and it's not clogged either because its a gutted cat. New plugs, coils and wires, cleaned MAF, new 02 sensors, new crankshaft postion sensor...any other thoughts why its running so lean to cause the cat to glow red???
Fuel pump resistor pack under the airpump by passenger side shock tower, it looks like a heat sink. I have a gutted cat, eventually took to stealership, they figured out mine was bad. I bought one off eBay for like $20 an fixed issue for me, not sure if a way to check resistor pack with like a volt meter sure rx8 club might know. Hope this helps, chased problem for weeks an weeks.

Hey man I have an rx8 that doesn’t crank when I turn the key.. I’ve replaced battery and checked if the new battery I put it is good and it is. The car sometimes turns on and sometimes it doesn’t. Ive also pop clutched if you know what I mean and it turned right on but the last time I tried to pop clutch it did not work but after like 5 minutes I tried to turn it on normally and it turned on... any help please??
Check the starter using a volt meter. Also go onto rx8club forum website and search for the deflooding procedure
Or you might need new coils / spark plugs if the starter is okay

Flooded never shut it off until the engine is up too full operating temperature

Tony F Are you running a a restrictive muffler? All that added airflow from a stripped cat won't do you any good if it can't leave the pipe quickly
