Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long
I have wandered through this world
As each moment has unfurled
I've been waiting to awaken from these dreams
People go just where they will
I never noticed them until I got this feeling
That it's later than it seems
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what you see
I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me
Doctor, my eyes
Cannot see the sky
Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry
I kept my eyes open and tried to see
The point of what went on in front of me
I kept what moved me, forgot about the rest
And took my young imagination to the acid test
And it was easy then to say what love could do
It's so easy when your world is new
It's been so hard sometimes to find my way
I let my pleasure lead my little world astray
And if I'm truthful I'll say that I was blind
To everything about this life but what I had in mind
And it was easy then to say where love could go
It's so easy when there's so much you don't know
About my imagination, it got me through somehow
Without my imagination, I wouldn't be here now
And it was easy then when love was guaranteed
It's so easy when love is all you need
About my imagination
I'm making this investigation
Into my imagination
According to my computations
We're overdue for a transformation
Or is it my imagination?
I keep my eyes open and try to see
This life in terms of possibility
With so much changing, and changing for the worse
You got to keep your head up, Baby
From the cradle to the hearse
And it was easy then to say where love could go
It's so easy when love is all you know
About my imagination
I'm getting ready for the celebration
I'm bringing my imagination
Taking charge of my elevation
No fear, no trepidation
Register my affirmation
No doubt, no hesitation
People get ready for the embarkation
About my imagination
Calling out across the nation
It's time for some kind of re-dedication
Not talking 'bout just my generation
I'm sending out this invocation
I keep getting these excitations
More light, more love
More truth, and more innovation
I've watched many thousands of music videos but no other live performance by ANYBODY brings me to tears EACH and EVERY single time I see it like this one does. The lyrics and the voices of Jackson and those two beautiful ladies reach all the way into my SOUL and I yearn for a better world.
The beauty of Jackson is that he is always evolving. From the early 70's to getting arrested with him at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in the early eighties( Abalone alliance). The 90's amd 2000's showed him off as a polished musician that still has a voice for the people. And still after almost 40 years I see this song and am still moved...............One of a kind.......Peace
I love this music and it makes me feel young; then I look in the mirror.
OK, I clicked on the like button. But what I want to know is where's the "love" button? We need a "two thumbs up" button for this piece.
Jackson Browne is One of the Greatest Singer Song Writers. He's in touch with what's going on in the Universe as in Our Lives. He Knows and Senses the Changes taking Place in the Deepest Levels of All Our Consciousness. Love His Music and Him.
Heard this in the grocery store today and had it stuck in my head... What an awesome live version! He's still got it!
Mark Goldenberg. What a great guitarist.
That voice....even after all these years is just incredible!
Man, them old guys rock. Browne hasn't lost a thing and all I know about Mark Goldenberg is that he can shred a guitar.
I just finished watching some Soundgarden and now I'm peeping Jackson Browne. I swear this song brings tears to my eyes. "Doctor, my eyes cannot see the skies! Is this the price for having learned how not to cry?" I'm telling you, Shakespeare could not have put it any better.
Unbelievable performance. Chavonne, Alethea, and Mark just rocked it. The show in Oakland was fantastic, and this tune blew the doors right off. There'd better be a DVD coming from this tour because Jackson and the band were amazing.
I keep coming back to this performance, so well done with soul and talent.
I’ve been a Jackson Browne fan for over forty years. I consider this performance to be the absolute best that I have ever heard.
And having the lyrics available in the notes makes it even better, because without them, following the powerful meanings of the words can be challenging.
Absolutely fantastic stuff!!!
Amen!
It's amazing seeing an artist perform their songs over and over throughout the years, the memories it must invoke
It does invoke. He's brilliantly talented.
The back up singers make this perfect. Those girls can sing so well, they gave me chills.
musicsunhappy Aren’t they magnificent?
musicunhappy- They truly do sound great. They make this gem complete. But hey, Crosby & Nash weren’t too shabby!
Powerful updated version from the original...Love it! I can't stop rewinding it!
Com'on just a great example of 70's rock. Well done Jackson Browne
His voice still just a smooth. Like a good old wine.
Mark Goldenberg ... mind-blowing!
One of the all-time talents (and least well known by the public...pros know who he is) on guitar. Probably the best in the business who has toured with Peter Frampton, Al Stewart, Paula Cole, Hugh Laurie and played on dozens of albums including Bonnie Raitt's Grammy winner. He has scored films and also played in them (Ton Hank's 'The Thing You Do') has played in Don Was' live bands for many occasions. Check out his bio.
The first time I heard this song, was April 1972. I was 16 years old in the hospital recovering from a broken femur.
Me too. I was 16. Never heard anything like it.
how can anyone dislike this?
Perhaps those people don't have any souls more?
LOVE Jackson Browne..his music, look, everything.
Jackson is such a gift, since 1973 not a day goes by that I don't listen to at least one song. Keeps me young at heart, yet in touch with who I am now.. nice work Mr Brown
I love Jackson. This song about the environment makes so much sense since I am older.. "it's later than it seems... I hear them cry, just saying it's too late for me"...
Long live JACKSON BROWNE!!
One 4 the lucky ones, "Will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
i love jackson brownes voice he still sounds great.
Jeff Young’s keyboard just melts my soul.
Never forget the first time I heard Doctor My Eyes . I literally had to pull the car over. Never heard anything remotely like it . Changed my life .
.. gotta keep your head up from the cradle to the grave.....so right on✌️🕉
I have been a J.B. fan since I heard ready or not in 1972. Such a dude almost met him in 77 Baton Rouge louisiana. Luck me to have lived in this age.

What a magnificent performance!! Everybody was great!! What a composition! I love the way the background singers help bring this to "another level"!!
Jackson and Jeff Young make some incredible music together and those two singers are a wonderful addition to both the recordings and tours. Can't wait to hear those two make solo careers!

They tore THAT one off! A crisp, beautiful performance. I'm going to the next Jackson Browne concert I can get to . . .
Amazing musicians and vocalists! So many bands sound good only in a studio, but this sounded even better live I think than what a studio would produce, WOW!
Before listening I didn't think this would work but an excellent live performance! IMHO
Sounds great Jackson still sounds good and he's aging nicely ❤😍

Takes me back to the seventies when I was a young man making havoc with the girls at the local clubs in Baltimore. . . The Frigate, Hollywood Palace, Betty and Earl's Café in Essex, Addie's in Dundaulk, Route 40 West, and many, many more!!
Simply wonderful! 😌🎶
