In my language even inanimate objects, animal species, locations etc. have their own pronouns. Dog is a "he" (even if female), kitchen is a "she", sun is an "it"... But they do not have gender identities, of course. In my language there is not really a word for a singular "they". I mean, people try to "create" it, but it sound really weird and it's hard to use. The worst thing about Polish language is that you have to use your own pronouns each time you are talking about yourself or about doing any activity.... For example "I'm (me, she) going for a walk", something like this... I was using "she/her" pronouns since I was born, so it's hard for me to let them go. I feel comfortable using these and it sometimes even happens "automatically". Pronouns don't equal gender.
In my language even inanimate objects, animal species, locations etc. have their own pronouns. Dog is a "he" (even if female), kitchen is a "she", sun is an "it"... But they do not have gender identities, of course.
In my language there is not really a word for a singular "they". I mean, people try to "create" it, but it sound really weird and it's hard to use.
The worst thing about Polish language is that you have to use your own pronouns each time you are talking about yourself or about doing any activity.... For example "I'm (me, she) going for a walk", something like this...
I was using "she/her" pronouns since I was born, so it's hard for me to let them go. I feel comfortable using these and it sometimes even happens "automatically".
But for some reason I never liked the feminine words like "girl", "miss", "actress", "wife", "sister", "princess" etc. These things are called "feminatywy" in Polish and I do not like to use them for myself (only the "she" pronoun). Words like these are called "person nouns" where I live and are separate from pronouns.
Also, being "non-binary" does not mean being 100% genderless (you mistake it with agender). It means being outside of the binary genders. And binary genders have two options - 1. Being 100% a man all the time 2. Being 100% a woman all the time. I don't suit any of these two options. I view myself as woman + man or something in between, to be honest. And I want to be treated this way.
@@walkingcorpse1224 I would gladly go with the idea of "using any/all the pronouns" (it's an easier way of life), but calling myself a "he" never felt right with me. Calling myself "it" or neopronouns like "xe" is not comfy either. So I'm going with "she/they"
