In the old Oyo empire there were 3 tiers of governance: Alafin, Oyomesi and the Ogboni. Our system was highly sophisticated way before colonisation

Basorun gaa can't be fully deemed wicked,we heard the basorun story from the victors and not from neutral people, what do you expect the royal family should say, basorun gaa came ahead of is time, analysing oyo history of that period well one would see long before gaa,the Alaafin and is basoruns have had series of clashes based on oyo new found power, territorial spread and wealth.one party on one side consisting of the warriors, oyomesi wanted to increase oyos power in every direction by means of conquest, the other side headed by the Alaafin, nobility and traders wanted peace so that they can exploit and enjoy the wealth that comes from trading and commerce. Basorun gaa a descendant of the greatest oyo general yau yamba, wanted to be greater than his ancestor, the period was a time most Alaafin increased autocratic powers which brought them into conflict with the basorun who claimed to be the defender of the masses, history recorded him as a poor man, basorun gaa may have his excesses but he is not who history has painted him to be; monster...he was a great statesman who wanted the best for oyo empire, when gaa was destroyed, the days of oyo where numbered.

As you said every side has its story. A yoruba proverbs says, "ai fi ele ke ibosi, ni ko je ki a ri eni bani jo". Coming at loggerheads with constituted authority was no a clever way to go. Remember the story of Ogunlola, He was awaiting trial at Oyo before the event that made his baale happened. He didn't rebel, submitted. Unfortunately for Gaa, it didnt end well for him nor for the empire. Same thing goes for Ojukwu, he had foresight to Nigeria's problem but chose to rebel. It didnt end well for both parties.

Those were the days when those royal positions commanded respect and dignity. Unlike now when money and politics have polluted everything and those positions have lost their dignity and respect.

Indeed one of your best. Well done for bringing the old Oyo empire to us. If I may suggest, animated documentaries are the current trend. Maybe you can partner with a computer artist especially when it has to do with the era before the invention of cameras. Yoruba Proverb
    - "Bòo láyà òṣìkà, bóo rántí ikú Gáà, o sóòótọ́"
"If you have the heart of a tyrant, when you remember Gaa's death, you'll do good/justice"
There were terrible reports of how wicked he and his emboldened family members were. One of his nephews reportedly once cut off a labourer's head just to check how stiff the man's neck is, after the said labourer complained of neck pain from the heavy load he was made to carry
