    No filter socks! With the massive amount of ceramic media, does your fluidized bed filter do anything?

    What is the reason to choose so many different types of media, instead of using only either K1 or lava rock, or the ceramics? Not talking about the pH buffering by the coral rock... Wouldn't you go better with one area just for K1 or with lava rock alone? I think lava rock is better than K1. What do you think? Anyone else?

    Impressive Sump design. Can you explain how the auto top off ( using the float valve ) system works in the sump. Also is it possible through any automotive system in which automotive water changes ( periodically small amounts of 15 to 20 gallons in the sump specifically in the Return Chamber, four to five times in a 24 hour duration of every after 3 to 4 hours time gap ). Trying to figure out small AUTOMATED water changes procedure in the sump... like 20 to 30% water changes of the total tank capacity.

    hey mate love your vids basically trying to emulate your sump atm
    question are you using k1 or k1 micro and have you used both
    also to turn the k1 are you using an air stone disc just wanted to clarify (...lol) and are they just in each corner of the section
    cheers from australia
    ps you wouldn't believe how hard k1 or k1 micro is to get over here

    • @Jetblink619
      @Jetblink619  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is standard K1, however…I no longer use it. I removed it about a year ago from my systems. Here were my issues with using that media… It was very loud, required a good size wave maker to push it around, like that, doesn’t hold much beneficial bacteria compared to other medias I have used and I am now using. Check out some of my more recent videos on the tank or sump. I am a big fan of using lava rock as it is very porous and much much more effective. Not to mention it is very cheap.

    Grab yourself a couple of long air stones that fit across the sump, add them in instead of the disc air stones and place one at each end of this section. This will give a better overall circular flow and keep all the media moving including the corners.

  • @madghosthunter
    @madghosthunter ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the k1 media get a pvc pipe an drill some holes about every half inch an cut it so you have 2 of them that you can put on each side on at the bottom pushing air though it .. That will make it move faster an you will not have any dead zone ( media that not moving ) it will be much better an more affective … but everything look great ….

      What size air pump and diameter would you recommend
      I need to get mine moving a lot better

    • @madghosthunter
      @madghosthunter 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not to sure seeing the the media your are moving around is in a small space… if your just using it for that and the air going out the pvc pipe you drilled the holes on…A decent air pump will do … You want one that can run about 4 of them if needed just in case …it might take a few try’s in how you set it up and how fast you want media to move …. But prices wise I say about maybe 120 - 75 dollars…. For the pump… because it depends on the size of holes you drill will determine how much air will move though them …. Hope it helps..

    Nice video. I come from a saltwater background and contemplating switching to a freshwater discus setup. I currently have a 450 gallon reef with a 100 gallon sump and 40 gallon refugium. I know freshwater skimmers are not commonly used in freshwater, but can I use my skimmer by adding air stones to create fine bubbles? Also, can I utilize the refugium with nitrate absorbing plants on a reverse light cycle? Any other advice would be appreciated.

    • @Jetblink619
      @Jetblink619  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you.
      Unfortunately proteins skimmers have little to no use in the freshwater environment. Freshwater cannot foam up like its saltwater counterpart. Best way to keep pristine water with low nitrates, etc., is to do weekly water changes and or a constant drip system like I have on my tanks that is constantly replacing water at a slow rate. Discus prefer very clean water, so I would recommend a planted tank with a sump/refugium.
      As far as the refugium goes, I would suggest using Pothos plants. They are extremely easy and in my experience over the years I have found them to remove the most amount of fish waste by far.

    It was great to see your filter. I don't know what exactly it is called but looks great.
    I wasn't even aware that it really needs so much. Amazing.
    In how many days you do water change?
    I've got 18" Arowana in about 400 litre tank and I use sunsun HW 3000/H canister filter for that and I do change 50% water change every week. How many times you do?

    • @Jetblink619
      @Jetblink619  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you.
      I do not do any water changes on this tank because it has a constant drip system on it that is constantly changing out water automatically. Haven’t done a manual water change on this tank in a year now.

    • @Jetblink619

      No. Its all personal preference on how high you want them. Mine are pretty high to maximize water volume.

      I removed the K1 from my system roughly 6 months ago. After running it on a couple of my larger tanks I decided it was no where near the capability of say lava rock. That said, I am implementing lava rock back into this sump as we speak and will be making an update video.

    Nice setup, but my guess is total cost pushing 5K, perhaps more with some of the fancy gear. What was the budget for this? I would also beg to differ about the plants, I have a ton (including a 25 foot pothos) and although they do very well, I do not think that they are any substitute for regular water changes, they make use of the nitrates but do not 'remove' them. Just my two cents and although tbh not a fan of bare tanks like this, the fish are pretty. Did you build the setup or buy it?

    • @Jetblink619
      @Jetblink619  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built everything you see, not a ton of money into it since I had everything already.
      Constant drip auto water change system on the tank does a constant water change. Nitrates practically undetectable

    • @nobrainsnoheadache2434
      @nobrainsnoheadache2434 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jetblink619 Sounds like a nice system, I guess the constant refresh might be required more for salt water. I just wanted to point out that plants will not remove any extensive amount of nitrates; in my experience at least that just hasn't happened. I also rarely if ever test though, just can't be bothered spending money to reassure myself what is obvious if you look at the tank; ie everything is fine :) As I said I have a ton of plants, total biomass maybe 10 times more but on far smaller tanks, 35, 40 and 90. I grow several kinds of pothos, bamboo, jasmine, and I have a spider plant the size of a medicine ball with 4-5 foot runners; it went insane as soon as I put it in the tank. Yes, in the tank, not a sump. I built frames with window screen stretched over (cat proof), and cut slits for the plant stems. Fish and shrimp both love the roots, I cut them back so they are not unsightly also. I just wondered about all the extra equipment in a bare tank, what's to clean out of the water besides a bit of suspended particulate, esp with no vegetation, also esp after that insane sump more suited to Marineland lol. :) cheers and happy christmas
