    Interesting how the missile has a static front with steering blades and the rest has spin stabilization.

    When they talk about the "low priced" LMM, I'm rather curious what qualifies as low priced.

      It seem to be about 70k$. So pretty cheap compared to others Manpads missiles which are about 400k$ for a single stinger missiles in 2023 per CBS 60 Minutes revelations.

    Even if Thales can get their directed energy anti-drone weapon to work at 1km and still only require 1 second of time-on-target at that range, can it take out a single 350kph small racing drone; a broad swarm of 10, 100? What is the cycle time between firings? If the drone's electronics are disabled, it will still be on a ballistic trajectory, with significant KE, quite apart from any HE payload.

      Fpv dont go 350kph more about 100khp, 120 in a dive.

      @@karakiri283 Ralph Hogenbirk built one for RedBull a year ago, so the technology is commercialy available:
      "My two colleagues and I immediately began brainstorming: ‘What can we do? What should this drone look like? What's been done before?’ We knew of a few attempts at building fast drones that went to around 370kph, but these were all very slim rockets and they were only made to go fast once. They were super-light with small batteries and no recording equipment. That wouldn’t work for us. It meant that we knew the speed was possible, but we didn’t know if it was possible to add filming equipment and also be able to handle corners. The question was: ‘How would we control something like that in the air?’
      The electronics and the motors are pretty standard, off-the-shelf components, but we spoke to the suppliers asking for their latest, unreleased hardware. For example, we needed something that could handle more RPM for the motor, and they had it. It was reasonably off the shelf with maybe a few unreleased parts, but then the whole outer structure of the drone itself was designed from the ground up by us.
      Yes, so the top speed is 350kph, an acceleration of 100-300kph in just two seconds (most F1 cars accelerate from 0 - 60mph [97kph] in roughly 2.6s). This generates 6G at max load, with a 2-3G average acting on the carbon, glass fibre and 3D polymer body. Weight was obviously important and we managed to get it down to under 1kg in weight. I’d like to get the camera capabilities to be able to livestream, but it still works well with a 4k60fps / 5k30fps camera with 10bit colors."

      @@41istair What was the weight it could theoretically carry ? Would it still be enough to have a say 40mm HEDP warhead and the fpv camera ?

    • @41istair
      @41istair 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PervonHarke The only public details that I have are from a Feb 2024 online article from RedBull, titled: "World's fastest filming drone: How it was built".
      At that time, they hadn't managed to have it carry broadcast-level technology for livestreaming and it was not clear if they even had FPV video, although, as above, it certainly carried a 5K action camera. RB published at least two videos this year of it chasing an F1 car and a second video of it chasing a MotoGP bike and both look like FPV would have been needed.

    have you taken into account pacemakers?... if its used near civilians or land. i think the weapon sounds really great, i just always go... unexpected consequences. lots of medical implants these days that do all sorts of things. maybe if it's used out of need, making sure to do a civilian sweep to see if anyone has an implant and double check they are still working implants? drones are definitely a danger that need to be stopped. but making sure everyone survives is good too.
    A little caution to make sure everyone's OK and gets medical help if needed and a new implant, after it's use, keeps it being a good weapon to use with minimal issues if those affected are saved right away.

    Et donc la question la plus bête:
    D'une par serait il possible d'imaginer un essain de drône "sous marin" et comment Thalés pourrait il le détecter ?

    • @NavalNews
      @NavalNews  หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Oui, et pas de soucis pour la détection avec les nombreuses solutions sonar de Thales (CAPTAS 1 ou 2, ou sonar de coque).
      La vrai question c'est comment contrer ces drones: Les torpilles coûtant beaucoup plus cher que les UUV. Pour l'instant il n'existe pas de vraies solutions. On peut imaginer un retour des "depth charges" (grenades sous marines)

      Isn't Leonardo the one who already sales very light weight torpedo 127mm compared to 324mm LWT and 533mm of the heavy ones now world wide used, the light from helicopters and ships, the heavy from submarines, both with high speed and good ranges instead Leonardo's VLWT is quite slow (+15 knot) and short ranged (?) but enough to destroy under water drones and special forces minisubs.
      Size around half Sidewinder, performance and 20Kg weight let you think must be a low cost weapon but I can't find any reference
