The "unrivalled firepower" as explained is outstanding for a conventional submarine of this size (without VLS?, with 4, 6 or 8 torpedo tubes ?).
It has the same number of heavyweight weapons inside the storage compartment than a Virginia or a Yasen... But in a smaller submarine.

I wish the Philippine Navy (PN), 🇵🇭 would acquire the Black Sword submarine. But considering its price and the lacked of experience by the PN the Evolved Scorpene would suffice for now at least in building a Submarine Force! At minimium 3~4 diesel-electric submarine should be the minimum. However the current PN leadership is improving the capabilities of the surface ship which I also support. But don't think it should abandon the acquisition of subs! Nonthless hoping for loans from france to expedite the acquisition of submarines along with infrastructure for maintenance and training facilities.

Pathetic! The submarine building and procurement industry is tired of the PN's wish full thinking... Oh wait I heard the Koreans are willing to pay the "price of participation" to your corrupt officials....

I wonder if the PN could aquire some of the Australian Navy's Collins class subs as they replace them? But those boats are probably very tired and past their service life. The US seems to be more engaged in the area now, but it's navy does not have any conventional subs. Could the PN source Korean or Japanese subs? With either of those repair and support would be much closer. But with China's encroachment on territory more probably needs to be spent on surface ships to counter the Chinese Coast Guard assualts.

eh nuclear is very, very expensive, you need a huge, dedicated infrastructure to do it. Its why Australia is only getting once now, because the new US reactors are life-time of the vessel and there is no need for mid-live extension/refueling, if this was not the case, Australia will not be able to afford it.

So this is the Submarine that Australia originally commissioned before AUKUS I take. A conventionally diesel powered version of the Barracuda.
I support my country's (Australia) decision to ditch it and pick up the American and UK SSN's, we need it to help have Teeth against the rising super power of China, but I also can't Fault France for feeling Betrayed.
I hope they have enough export success to make up the 12 Submarines we had planned on.

as a Frenchman, I hope you didn't get f* in the butt by this decision and that the US (who are known to have problems with their ship / submarine building capabilities) will be able to deliver the submarines you've requested on time and in the quantity requested.
even though I thought it was a bad move (due to the millions already invested and the millions paid for breaking the contract), after all, France and Australia are partners in the Indo-Pacific, and we need to both be strong to face upcoming challenges.

@@Tortuex_ I also hope we don't get f* in the butt. the 90 billion or so we were going to be spending on the French Attack Submarine (Now called the black sword, which is a super cool name) was apprently jsut for the comission of the design, not the building process, so I don't think the AUKUS plan will end up being too much more considering the capability upgrade we will get.
But yes, the big concern will be if the Americans will deliver on their side right now. A big part might be played by who becomes president tomorrow. But, even if the Americans change their mind, it'd be to keep it themselves to deter china. Which is our primary concern. Hopefully, the Collins life extension upgrade can keep the skills warm until the UK Aukus Class sub comes online. If not, maybe we can work out sending the rest of our sub mariners onto UK and US subs as on going training until it does. Which would be awkward, especially to the general Australian Public. But thanks to the Trilateral deal, we will still eventually start Building the AUKUS class subs and then we'll have a uniform sub to maintain, which might save us money in the long run. Heck, depending on how we are going with our AUKUS sub build speed, it might even work out better if we buy half life Virginias so we can replace those with more AUKUS subs by the time their life expires to keep our shipyards working until the next Gen Submarines start building.
There's a lot of Variables to play out yet and it helps that it's a trilateral deal with both the UK and US to give us a bit more flexibility.
But Yes Toruex, I agree that we should work together in the pacific. Although we did payout the exit fee for the French sub deal (I was really worried our government would try to weasel out of that, no matter how much the French may or may not have ripped us off. A contract is a contract) I understand why Macron say it was more than a deal, it was a partnership. I hope we can give more goodwill back to France, even if it's helping with French New Caledonia or a French base in Australia or something. I feel our (non financial) debt to France is not yet repaid.

Their English was fine, but I would have preferred to hear them in French... They would surely have been much more eloquent.

Australia should not casnsal the 15 Barracuda Sumbarines. They would have had today 6 (2024). And by 12 in 6 years (2030). All Armed with Torpedoes, Harpoons and Cruise Missiles. Getting only 3 Nuclear Sumbarines and not 7.
China will have in 6 years, 550+ War Ships (6 Aircraft Carriers, 90 Sumbarines and 35 LSD (2030). So we need to build by then and have 12 New Sumbarines, 12 Corvettes, 12 Frigates and 12 Destroyers.

in what way? in fact it has very little to do wirh Scorpene. it's longer range, bigger size, has different propulsion, combat systems and uses Xshaped rudder vs +shaped rudder. in fact this design is based on Suffren and not the Scorpene

    • @saltymonke3682
      @saltymonke3682 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@lordtemplar9274 this thing has no AIP and that's why I said scorpene plus, they just changed the rudder. Same propulsion with basic scorpene, it's using basic propeller, not the pump jet. Longer range just because of an upgraded battery and fuel tank than basic scorpene. Probably with anti magnetic steel but who knows.
The other plus is the new CIC layout. I don't know if they will add VLS or not for the Dutch Tomahawk requirement.
