  • Sony ZV-E1 10Bit 4K Cinematic (Shot it in KL, Malaysia)
    This is the Sony ZV-E1 4K Cinematic video test, I know I’m a bit late to the game. But better late than never right. So as you may know people also call the the Sony ZV-E1 as a mini A7SIII. So why did I pick up the ZV-E1? Oh well, there are couple of reasons. First, the image quality. As the ZV-E1 shares the same sensor as the A7SIII and FX3. I do own an A7SIII for over 3 years now. The image quality is just amazing. And I just love the full frame 4K 60p. Which there aren’t any other Sony cameras can do that. A7IV crops in when shooting 4K 60p. The A7RV does a little bit better. But it is still cropping in 1.24x in 4K 60p. (And 8K as well). So the only camera left is the flagship A1. And yea that is a USD6.5K camera. So totally make sense that camera does everything. The only thing I want is 4K 60p in full frame mode.
    Second, the compact design. The camera body is only 399g. As I do a lot of travelling. Light weight gear is the key. And also when pairing with my DJI RS3 Mini. I can pretty shoot for entire day no problem. I know people might think smaller body makes the camera overheats a lot quicker. But surprisingly I did a full day wedding in Malaysia. And the overheating warning didn’t pop up at all. Not even once. But of course if you are a bit concern about long recording. Then the FX3 is a better choice. But for the price of the FX3. I can pretty much buy 2x ZV-E1 body (ZV-E1 currently on sale in Australia at the moment).
    I have also done some research before making this move. I almost bought the FX30. As I have reviewed that camera. The FX30 is also a beautiful camera. It has a build in fan. And you get all the features like the FX3. The only downside is the APS-C sensor. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love shooting with APS-C cameras. Lenses are a lot smaller and more affordable. And the image quality is very close to a full frame camera. But as I mainly do weddings. A7SIII and A7IV are my main set up. So if I get the FX30. I don’t know where that camera sits. No matter how good is the FX30. I would still use my A7SIII as my main camera. Then what’s the point of getting the FX30 then. But for the ZV-E1. At least I know the image quality is identical. I can put the ZV-E1 as a B-Cam. And my A7IV is a C-Cam.
    So people complain why Sony make a camera that overheats. Why don’t they just make one perfect camera. But I personally don’t think it that way. They do have the FX3 which tick all the boxes. But if you aren’t a full time filmmaker or a wedding videographer. You don’t need long recording time or you don’t care about dual card slots. Then why spending extra USD$1701 for the FX3. I’m actually glad Sony made a compact version. At least people can choose.
    But there are two downsides of this camera, first is the screen. It is very dim. Very hard to see it when shooting outdoor. Second, it is the dial. The ZV-E1 only comes with 1 dial and one wheel. So it set one for the aperture and second one for the ISO. Then we are missing the shutter speed. I mean it is not the end of the world. But it does slow you down a little on the shoots.
    Over all, I think this is such an amazing camera. Sony pretty much puts all the pro features from the A7SIII into this tiny ZV-E1. Let’s be honest, Sony could’ve chopped off the IBIS and 4K 120p. And most of the content creators would still be happy with it. At the beginning, I wasn’t going to buy this camera, as I thought I don’t really need another A7SIII. But since I travel a lot nowadays, having a smaller body makes my life a lot easier. Now I wish I got the camera earlier.
    Note:
    During my stay in KL Malaysia, it was very hazy. So you might not be a able to see the sky and clouds. It wasn’t poor dynamic range from the camera.
    Features you don’t get on A7SIII
    AI auto focus
    Register the person to focus
    Breathing compensation
    Creative zoom control
    Intelligent 3 Capsule Microphone
    AI-based Auto Framing for movies
    Cinematic Mode
    Dynamic active Mode stabilisation

    Curious why you chose HLG over Slog3?

      Assuming he is shooting HLG as well but I can’t be sure because any picture profile on Sony cameras could be changed to SLOG 3…..

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you very much. I do use both HLG and S-Log 3. But I found that HLG is a lot easier to grade. And the dynamic range is not that bad at all. But ofcoz if it’s too sunny, then I would go for the S-Log 3. And when I shot the video, it was a cloudy day. So I thought HLG would do the job fine 😊

      @@dsipictures great to know that! Please teach me how do you do the shot with gimbal focusing on the building. Is it PF or PTF or FPV? Do you have to lock the gimbal? I’m still learning using my dji rs3 mini. Really like that kind of shots i saw in all your videos. 🙏🏽

    Thinking of picking up the ZV-E1 with the 24mm F2.8 G. What are your thoughts on this? What would be the ultimate "compact" setup?

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea, the ZV-E1 and the 24mm f/2.8 G is the best travel set up. The body itself is around 399g and the lens is just 162g. I reckon that is the lightest full frame combo you could get :)

      Have you tried the 28-60mm "kit lens" or 20-70mm F4 with it? I'm tossing up these alternatives...! @@dsipictures

      I like those compact G lenses, the FE 24mm f/2.8 G, FE 40mm f/2.5 G and FE 50mm f/2.5 G. I think it works perfectly on the compact ZV-E1 😊

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used the Angelbird V90 card for this video. But you don’t need to use the fastest card. A normal Sandisk V30 will do just fine for 4K video. Unless you are shooting crazy slowmo at 120p. Then you will need a faster card 😉

    Amazing, deal with any overheating at all? Wanting to pull the trigger on this camera badly.

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Surprisingly I did not have any overheating issue at all. I did a wedding in Malaysia. And it was around 35 degrees Celsius/ 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The overheating warning didn’t pop up once. And I was shooting on 4K 50p too. Ofcoz I can’t guarantee how much you can push it. But for its price, I think the ZV-E1 is amazing 😊

    Zve1 vs A7cii for video?

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a tough question, the ZV-E1 gives you full frame 4K 60p without a crop. The A7CII has a 1.5x Super 35mm crop in 4K 60p. But due to the 7K oversampling. The A7CII gives you much sharper and more detail 4K image. So it depends what’s more important to you. If you do a lot of 4K slowmo video and don’t really care about the EVF. Then the ZV-E1 is a better choice 😊
