    You make it look easy! Both my shutter blades and aperture blades were frozen. This camera had not been touched sense it was assembled, at least it seem that way. I used Naptha but in the end I had to use Alcohol 99.9% to un-gum it all up. I had to change the shutter speeds but getting the flange to align with the meter ring was not too tough. Thanks for the video, I would have been scratching my head opening up the lens.

    The rings were stubborn--first the black one holding the lens hood on, but then the one holding on the front assembly. The front element of the lens did not want to come loose. I eventually got it with a rubber band and the handle rather than tip of some pliers. Isopropyl alcohol on the shutter and it still didn't want to move. At first. Then it started moving in what sounds like it was approximately correct timings.
    And so in an afternoon's work, thanks to this video, I might have saved the camera I thought I broke years ago. It'd belonged to my Mom way back when. I shot on it some in High School. But I dropped it. Carpeted floor, but still. The shutter just wouldn't work. But it seems like, thanks to this video, I might have fixed it. There's light seals to replace, a battery adapter to acquire, but dang. It'll feel great to get a family heirloom camera up and running again.
    Thank you so much for this tutorial.

    Thank you for making these videos. I've watched both this one and the one on cleaning the Canonet Q17 G-III, and your explanations have been clear and easy to follow. I feel confident to tackle both of my cameras (as soon as my new lens spanner wrench arrives this weekend)!

    Thanks for this video I had a Petri Color 35 with a stuck shutter. These disassembly & cleaning instructions also worked for that camera and it's now working.

    Thank you for this. I bought this camera just to take out the lens for I DIY conversion, but have since decided it was time to shoot some film again after 15 years. I have other film cameras, but can you have too many? No. I will be attempting this repair next week. I got this for 25 bucks so if I can get it working it will be worth it. Thanks again.

    Thank u so much for this video. I just bought a Revue S22 (rebranded S2) and though its not working since i could neither advance nor fire the shutter. Light meter is working.
    This repair released the shutter and now everything works perfectly fine.

    This is very helpful, but as one of the commenters below asked, I wonder if it might be simpler to clean the shutter from the rear of the camera? Have you done this, as I believe you did in another video with a Canonet QL17? If so, any tips? Is it even possible?

    Very interesting video. I have 3 of these cameras, and two have stuck shutters. I shall have to see if I can get them going again. One camera also has a hazy viewfinder, so I'm off to watch your video on adjusting the rangefinder 8-)

    Do you have a video for how to unstick the rewind button on an Auto S2, as well as how to fix aperture blades that don't open when the aperture ring is turned on an Auto S2?

    Thank you for the video. I like your videos very much. They are very educational. I noticed you use Zippo lighter fluid to clean stuck shutters. This Konica S2 and Minolta Hi-Matic. I used 99.9% Alcohol to clean my Canon Canonet stuck shutter. It doesn't work well. I'm thinking to try lighter fluid. Does it have to be Zippo lighter fluid? Can I use those BBQ lighter fuel instead? Also, there are some people say lighter fluid is a "salesman trick", it only works temporarily. And, the lighter fluid will redeposit the dirt and grime elsewhere. Is this true?

    Hello, thanks for a great video. We have failed on a Konica auto S3 by using the wrong solvent but will try again with something stronger tomorrow. We have noticed that the camera can be continuously winded without pressing the shutter release button. Does anyone know if this is a consequence of the sticky shutter blades ?

    Thanks for this great video. I just got a Auto S3 that stopped working about 5 minutes after I got it from the box. The film advance lever won't budge -- it's stuck about halfway through it's travel. Can't go forward, can't go back. Shutter won't fire since the film lever hasn't gone far enough to reset it. Any ideas?

    I just purchased a Konica auto s3: a couple of things:
    1. I just noticed that the self timer lever is broken (no big deal)
    2. the filter ring has a slight dent-hopefully I can still am able to remove the ring
    3. the most important issue is the shutter speed ring is quit stiff to move - any suggestions?
    Thanks

    I just acquired an Auto S2 and it doesn't work. Symptoms: Film advance lever stuck, sell timer seems to be set, but doesn't activate when shutter button pressed. Button doesn't seem to be "set". Lastly, front lens retainer, first and last item in this video, was extremely loose. I can't find any references re: Self timer on the net. Suggestions?

    I have just found a near mint IIIA. The slow speeds sound about right but the faster speeds are quite slow. Would this repair solution also work on my IIIA please?

  • @victorshikhman
    @victorshikhman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't it be (slightly) easier to apply alcohol/solvent from the other side? By opening the film compartment and applying solvent to the inside of the aperture blades? I assume that's probably where most of the gunk is built up, on the side facing the film, where most exposure to dust, oils, etc. must be happening. This would avoid the somewhat involved removal of front components. Thoughts?

    Question: You referred to the aperture blades as “shutter blades”. Being fairly new to this hobby, can you clarify if they are one and the same on this camera?

    • @applegwava
      @applegwava 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      these use a leaf shutter which is in the lens. Hence the shutter blades and aperture blades are part of the same mechanism

    Hi, I have a Konica C35, the shutter button is stuck in the down position, is it fixable, kindest regards John Moore.

    • @japanvintagecamera8869
      @japanvintagecamera8869  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Anything is fixable, at least most things. Check the battery first, because the button will no do anything if the camera is not energized. The top cover may have to come off to see if the button or switch underneath are bent or stuck. If there is corrosion, a little solvent (don't used oil) may unstick things.

      The ring can be stubborn. In most cases they come off easily, in some cases they are stubborn, especially if the filter ring area is dented. And on occasion they do not come off at all.

      @@jasperb14 I'm just a hobbyist but my tactics (in order) would be to put more solvent on it, then try a spanner wrench, then hold it in front of your stove vent when the stove is on for a couple minutes (the heat breaks things loose sometimes; but be careful; you don't want the body hot, just the tip of the filter ring).
