If you use a screwdriver there is a good chance it will poke through the bottom. It's way better to use a hammer handle. More surface area pushing against the bottom plunger pad.

didn't work, my screwdriver went through the back and I had to clean the whole thing up + get a new one now

I eventually figured out what went wrong. When you cut the top nozzle in the beginning make sure to stick the screw driver in a bit to break any plastic foil that might be there. Some tubes seem to have this extra layer of protection and if you don't cut the noozle far enough down it will just block everything and then this trick doesn't work
