Your work on the AMT kits has good results. I'm doing something similar with the logging trailer kit which will eventually go on either the Alaska Hauler tractor or the Autocar Dump Truck tractor (modified by leaving the dump bed off). I like the heavy duty diamond plate front fenders on both tractors. As nice as the headache rack that comes on the Alaska Hauler is, it's not realistic for a logging truck with out modification. Like @HickSquash previously mentioned, the logging truck style headache rack holds the tongue of the logging trailer when heading back up in the woods to get reloaded. If the rack on the Alaska Hauler was used in real life, the sleeper and possibly even the cab, would suffer serious damage if the trailer was set on the back to go for more loads. I also like that rack, but plan on fabbing a "nest" for the logging trailer's tongue, to accommodate it. I was going to leave the sleeper off, but after seeing your results, I think I'll put it on. I echo your criticism on AMT's directions. I'm putting the logging trailer together now and the directions for it are pathetic, at best. And it's not just on the big trucks. Although they do have a better selection of kits available, than most other brands. And their quality seems to be consistent over the years. It looks really cool, I just ordered this truck from Hobby Lobby also, they have great prices, I paid 30$ and Target sells it for 72$... Anyway, I saw that truck for the first time in a toy store in Paris, in the mid 70's, it was issued by Matchbox in France. I was in love with that thing but I knew that I was not up to the task yet. So here I am, a few years later, I think that I'm ready. Your videos were really helpful and I know what to expect and do, like filling the holes for the second exhaust stack and that little air filter hole next to the bonnet, actually I don't think that it's supposed to tilt over like other hoods, it looks more like an old type of side opening, like old cars. As I said in my comment on part three, your honesty about the AMT kits is wonderful. They are definitely not for beginners. And yes, provided the builder takes their time with the kits, the finished truck looks great, as yours does. I've built several AMT semis in the past, and I have two currently in progress.
The uprights are called bunks. The arms on the sides tip out so they can dump the load like a side-dump dump truck. The headache rack is designed like that because when running empty, the trailer piggybacks on the tractor and the rear bunk swivels sideways to clear and the rear duals straddle the bunk posts. The hitch is a pintle hitch: the trailer has a solid steel ring and the hitch on the tractor has a solid bottom half and the top clamps down like a pincer. This allows fast and easy connecting and disconnecting the trailer because usually it’s just the driver or a loader doing the job. The design also allows the trailer to articulate and sway around on rough terrain. Nice weathering! Turned out really well! Need some coffee stains on the seats😊. Those things are usually stacked above the bunks and chained together.
That was a great explanation about the logging trailer and how it is different than a normal trailer. I agree with you 100% about the directions and the challenges with these kits. It looks great, like a I imagine a hard working truck up there in Alaska might look.

I’ve built for some thirty years and put over 40 hours onto some builds. Mine are all gone now, and now I’m retired and want to start building again

Thank you. I think you are right about the hood. I think in this kit you will have the option of a hinged hood or the folding panel.

Chains go under the logs not on top they hold the uprights in place buy weight of the logs
