    Great comparison Ben. I had the Fusion last year and sent it back because of the workflow alone. Just too complicated for someone who likes to shoot and spend as little time as possible in processing mode. I am also a big believer in the size and tripod mount with the way I use the camera.

    I just sold my fusion for the one x for two reasons. Post-processing became too big of a hassle for me. I ended up not carrying my fusion with me that much because it took too long to render footage. Also, I don't think GoPro will be updating the fusion going forward. The word on the street is it is getting the ax so I decided to sell it now before the resale takes a hit.

    We have been using GoPro Fusion for a year. We were shooting mostly jet skiing videos until accidently we have lost the camera in the ocean.
    Fusion despite of its flaws was the best 360 camera for me on the market, even today.
    Now I have to get a new one, been researching INSTA360 ONE X.
    Easy workflow is important, but I would rather sacrifice that for the better, sharper video quality.
    For those who consider buying Fusion, just want to say that you don't have to have an extremely fast PC to make it work.
    I've been doing all my edits on i7-3770k 16gb RAM, SSD, GTX 680

    The One X looks cool. I have the fusion and love it! I’ve used it to shoot all kinds of theme park rides/ attractions at Disney and Universal Studios posted to my channel. Yes, it takes time to process video but I think the quality/end-result speaks for itself. It’s also handy that it is waterproof without a casing and the 360 audio (when rendered in Premiere correctly) is amazing 🙂.

    Firstly, love your channel- very informative, objective, and I've learned a lot! Since the OneX has better slo-mo, would you say it is better for action videos as well? I like to record white-water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and more so would like to know your thoughts on which camera for activities like that. I've found sometimes when you enter shadows/ shade from trees and a decent velocity, my Gopro Hero 5 takes a while to adjust so some of the video will be really dark. Which of these 360 cameras do you think would handle that situation best?

      @how to make a video, @Ben, and 360rumors, you guys are doing a great job to proliferate 360 cams.
      360rumors has been very helpful in his comprensive write-ups and reviews as well as what you're doing. Keep the great contents coming.
      I've think I've narrowed my choices to 1x for small form fator, versatility, and seemily easy app workflow. It doesn't seem as good as Fusion video, especially in low light and protunes mode, but has all the other features Fusion doesn't have.
      Where I am stuck here is the total cost. Fusion is about $380-$430 while 1x is similar but I would need to add an external audio recorder and maybe dive case, which quickly adds up. I am looking at Zoom h2n (recommended by 360rumors) or h1/h1n or Olympus ls-p4, again for small form factor. Your thoughts on this?
      I have some questions I would like your advice on:
      1) do you think Gopro will stop updating and/or developing further for Fusion? Any news or rumors? I tried reaching out to them but they're being vague, saying it's a great product and I should buy it (expected). But to qualify this, it's just someone in customer support & sales doing their job;
      2) what's your confidence on HDR video for 1x (which might put 1x on par with Fusion) getting done as advertised as well as no stitching in premiere pro, & in camera video montage on app;
      3) for workflow, do you find yourself using app (looks like 1x has advantage) more or desktop (seems difficult for both cameras but at your experience levels, I presume it's easier and faster to do)? Just want to get a feel for what I'm getting myself into as a beginner, first for personal reasons as an enthusiast and see if it can help me with my professional work (working on brand and design and can understand better how my outsourcing suppliers are using photos & videos to communicate the brand, keeping them checked).
      Appreciate your feedbacks and keep up the good work!

      @@nomad0714 That's very kind of you to say, thank you! :-) I do not have the Fusion so I cannot really compare but I do have the H2N. I definitely recommend it. I use it as a USB microphone, a spatial microphone, and stereo microphone. A multipurpose device for sure!

    I was enjoying the look of the fusion. Then when you posted the photo around 4:00 I was conflicted as I liked the overall look of the left photo. The detail in the road and coloring. So I thought well crap. The one x looks better for still photos.
    Then bamm. You dropped the labels and pulled a fast one. It turned out it was still the fusion I preferred.
    I always hate when I’m torn between two products and end up buying both. Lol.
    Though it sounds like workflow is better on the one x.
    Dang though. Even though the picture seems so much better in the fusion the price difference again leans me to the one x.
    Wonder which would be more durable for snowboarding?
    I assume both auto vanish the selfie stick or tripod.

    Around 2:12 the colors are truly less saturated but I like the way how shadows look like on the other hand... This way I have the decision whether to make more contrast. And even as you said, the yellows and oranges had more red tone, it's only a second to correct during color grading. So I prefer the Insta look right now, but I can't wait to see my own footages do decide! :) One X is on the way! :)

      The One X is a consumer camera. If you want/need color that meets professional requirements you need to get an Insta360 Pro or some other pro-level equipment. I own the One X and I think both it and the Fusion have pretty awful color for professional application. I wouldn't professionally sell it as a service. That said, just like normal GoPro footage - you can get away with inserting it into a more upscale production if you limit its use and use it smartly. I was hoping the Insta360 would be good enough to replace one of my DSLR's for Google Street Tours, but it's not even close in color and resolution.

    After four days use I'm not disappointed in image quality, but do you have any recommendations on a stick-on windscreen solution for audio?
    I also brought the dive case for active protection and waterproofing and seems to work well with the app having a stitching option for above water use. Has the Insta 360 improved the contrast of video with firmware updates? Looking at the side by side, it seems that the contrast is way better on the Fusion, but I like the other features of the Insta. With the Fusion coming down in price so much, price is no longer a factor. I don't have the most powerful laptop, a 16GB MacBook Pro (2017). Would that have any issues with rendering and stitching the Fusion footage?

    First, GREAT review. Being a guy who owns almost 30 GoPros, but not the Fusion-(just too pricey) this was a great comparison to what will be my next 360 camera. The one thing that bugs me about side by side comparisons is that if I saw either shot just by itself, it would look absolutely great to me. The subtle differences only seem to be significant if you are comparing otherwise I don't think I'd notice an issue if I was just looking at the videos and photos of one camera. I would probably be oohing and ahhing at how beautiful the shots are. Once again, great job.

    Great video Ben 😎 As an owner of the Fusion I’m looking for a 360 camera that offers more, more features, easier editing, better stitching and better mobile/tablet editing. The biggest issue here is low light performance as the UK weather isn’t great for at least 6 months, so is it really that bad in cloudy or indoor lighting? My other use is for in car recording to capture not only the road ahead but the scene inside the vehicle, this is where great dynamic range is essential and also the ability to zoom in to produce a dolly zoom effect.
    So I’m wondering if you think the OneX would stack up against the fusion in the situations I use it in? Thanks 🙏

    I felt burned by the Nikon Keymission, so took a long pause on 360. Had designs on a Fusion until I began hearing workflow stories. Just unboxed the One X today, and was very impressed immediately. Easy to link and use app, good image quality (although dynamic range iffy). Overcapture/aiming and extracting HD was simple. Took clip to Adobe Rush, and had quite a positive experience in mobile workflow. Using One X on a long pole gave drone-like results. Only negative is waiting for proper Insta accessories including selfie stick and additional batteries.

    Finally, a great comparison between these two cameras! I have the option to buy an open-box Fusion for almost the same price as the insta360 One X (485 EUR vs 476 EUR). In this case should I go for the Fusion? I have a powerful PC and prefer the audio from the GoPro but I’m afraid that the camera is abandonware and stuff like HDR will never be added... I just don’t understand. It’s really annoying to edit video on a phone. How can you be precise? So I edit on a computer. But I still don’t understand. The One X stitches in Studio Beta and you then export to a compressed mp4 file, losing quality before you’ve even started the edit. Furthermore my Mac handles huge Prores files loads better than huge mp4 files, so am I missing something?
    Furthermore, I’ve noticed in bright sunlight the stitch line on the One X is clearly visible. Also you mentioned the One X shoots in log mode but the Fusion also has Protune which is the same thing.

    • @BenClaremont
      @BenClaremont  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most people edit on mobile.. editing this way is much faster and easier. For full 5.7k video you need to stitch on computer. Understood?

      @FilmMyRun 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure I agree that it’s easier to edit on a phone. Tiny screen. Trying to make precise edits with your finger. I don’t like it.
      Are we agreed that mp4 is a compressed file format? The only current way to edit properly on a computer is to export each clip from the Insta Studio Beta as mp4 and then import in to Premiere or FCPX or whatever. So the footage will already be degraded before you start the edit? Is that how it’s done?

      @ronbonnell1775 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw in another more recent review something about the OneX can now send to PC unedited as I understood it and it is much better. Not that I understand this stuff at all! Just trying to decide now if I should get a Fusion for $100 less than the OneX. I probably just want to record grand children and family events and keep them for posterity. I have a lot of VR equipment, GTX 1080, RTX 1060 etc so I think the PC processing wouldn't be as much of a problem.
      Though, I don't envision wanting to spend a lot of time on this, so OneX would be simpler. Going through a cashback site I can probably get the Fusion for $125 less than Onex. I think I might go that route and at least give it a try until something better comes along or Onex comes down to $300 cost. I like to keep under $300 price because using my Amex card they cover returns for 90 days, up to $300. Also see new Fusion selling on Ebay for $260, so that is another choice. I guess they are coming down in price to what they are worth, considering the issues.
