He sounds great with this song throughout. But that 2:40 mark...yessir. That's about the spot when he lights it up and throws the audience on his back and carries us to the top like a pro. No disrespect to Dashboard, but this is just bigger. So very good.
I came back to this song today because Chris had a post on NPR about surviving with a schedule during quarantine, and omg I die.. I just die at this song and Micheals voice...
Don't ever ask Michael Stipe to sing with you..he'll make you sound like crap. There's no one else like him! He's got the best voice ever! Love you Michael Stipe!
Michael Stipe just has the intangibles that separate him from most. My musical coming-of-age was in the 90's and his voice in R.E.M. was all over it. Put that dude in any decade or genre and it'll be something special every time.
I was just on itunes trying to see if a new DC album has come out, and saw the Dashboard and Michael Stipe songs. Didn't know that this even existed. Pretty cool.
and in the concrete dawn we ran hand in hand furious pacings saturated with frustration. but there in sunshine a certain trembling which was Love or an earthquake.
No disrespect to dashboard, but the original version sounded a bit too much rushed, teenage-ish. The emotion that Michael Stipe emanates from his voice here kinda transcends the age barrier.
~sigh. I remember when MTV was an honest to god place for music videos and music related programming. Not Viva La Bam and crappy movies from the 90's. I remember being really annoyed that I missed the first 4 or 5 airings of this broadcast
I don’t think REM was always a GREAT live band. They lost something when they started playing arenas. But when the chips r down and the pressure is on, R.E.M., especially Stipe, delivered the goods. I can understand ur comment, but I just don’t think u can underestimate Stipe. If he makes the effort to sing w/ another group, he will find a way to make it work.
Michael Stipe is a national treasure. One of the most unique voices of all time.
that was a pretty big honor for Chris to have Michael sing one of his songs
Never seen this before. Was Dashboard opening for REM? That's wild Mike sang their song.
Best version ever 🙌🏼
As much as I love this song, this version is my favorite. Such a great blend of the two voices.
Great song. I wish there was an all-Michael version out there. His voice is the best. The way he finishes the song. Amazing!
YES. Favorite ending!
And not a drum or cymbal lived to tell the tale that day. Damn, that drummer is on .

Lance LaRue could NOT have said it better. I get chills at that spots and they stay till the end. Brilliant.
Right you are, Sir!

Michael was like: here’s how you sing this song. Hold my beer.
Hand down this is the best version of this song that I could ever remember, always remember..

First found this gem on limewire back in the day. Love this performance.

And Mike Marsh back there. Holy shit. So good.
Hands down this is the best version of this song. Origional is great but mixing their styles is pretty kickass.
I sang your comment in my head as I read it.
Gotta say that Mike's vocals brings an added layer of coolness to the song.
i saw this video a couple of years ago, and then couldnt find it, then forgot about it... glad i stumbled across it again :)
Thank you! Never knew this existed
Your voice is so powerful Michael
A crossover I never knew I needed!!!! 💞💞💞💞💞💞
Yes, this exactly! 💜

Damn, Stipe's transition from a lower tone and timbre to the higher is just chilling!
Michael is the best
This is better than the original song....
Very great song , Super video.
Still so good. So solid.
Anyone know where I can get a high-quality MP3 of this?
FANTASTIC!!!

MERCY! Unbelievable.

Why wouldn’t they let Stipe do the whole song?!?!?!?
Yup
Stipe meant it
Yeeeeeezir
Yeah Scotty!
Cool .
Class dismissed boys
Some people just want to see the world burn
i mean, this was a 0 dislike video.
Stipe gave them a master class right there. Too bad most of the girls screaming for the Dashboard singer probably missed it.
fuck, i can't download it, but it's sooo great!! :(
Hence underoath
Stipe's voice does not work well with such a poppy background, that's what made REM so great!

Quite the opposite r.e.m. was actually a great live band

Drummer drowns everyone out
😂😂
One person is def or has no heart.
On paper this sounds like a great project...well...you never know till you try. yikes.
Michael sounds better
not as awesome as the original but however great (in my opinion)
