Merchant sounds Celtic and emotional with her haunting head tones , swaying pitch and occasionally choked up flow. The contrast here is really special between Bragg's AMAZING composition/words and these two performers and one time lovers. Definitely a moving performance of this very important song. And the fact this rendering was given in the Czech Republic AFTER the USSR finally released it's grip is very interesting.

I believe that Michael and Natalie were in a relationship at this time, I think relationships between artists whether good or bad seem to bring out the best in their music...just look at Fleetwood Mac's Rumors album, I mean that band was a train wreck emotionally when they recorded that but, yet the music rang true due to their emotional struggles during that time
