I miss his voice so much. Lovely to hear him again. And what a way to pay tribute to BOWIE. Two geniuses. Please come back to music Michael. It needs you.
Yes, I too miss his voice and the eternal artist inside that we were all lucky to have been on this earth at the same time as he too enjoyed the world.
WOW! First, the piano is brilliant and then the vocal is wonderful! This is a different take on the song and an amazing version because the original had the guitars and this is the piano version. Stunning!
I was blessed to have been in Athens during the early years of REM and met them all. You would never know where they would show up and with whom. It was a magical time. One of my favorite places on the planet though I haven't been there in many years.
What a performance - every take on this song brings something completely unique out of it. Nirvana's epic unplugged version, Lulu's popularisation of it, obviously Bowie's original and now this truly mesmerising addition to the list... has a song been covered as many times with such quality and true distinctive artistry? It's a great song in its own right but the quality of cover versions just elevates the stature of this piece of music another level of appreciation. I could listen to them all, back to back, and each one be my favourite for 3 minutes. This version is pretty special though... an REM and Nirvana collaboration would have made the 90s 4 dimensional. Michael Stipe is an artist of the highest calibre - beautifully demonstrated in this cover.
We passed upon the stair We spoke of was and when Although I wasn't there He said I was his friend Which came as a surprise I spoke into his eyes I thought you died alone A long long time ago Oh no, not me We never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world I laughed and shook hand And made my way back home I searched for form and land For years and years I roamed I gazed a gazeless stare We walked a million hills I must have died alone A long, long time ago Who knows? Not me I never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world Who knows? Not me We never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world Thanks, that was a David Bowie song What's next? I didn't screw it up, did I? Okay, but here's another one I could screw up What is it?
Great post thanks. Don't know if Jon Stewert and David Letterman still have there long, large beards but would be great to see them and Michael Stipe do a special together with a little politics, comedy and music. Bearded guys in Montana in a cabin with Tesla , VerTiGos, maybe the Marvel vet and other cool rare care!

I Think about him every day.... Listen...

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him and watch his Heroes video from when he was in Berlin in 2002.
Idem
The piano + Michael's voice + David's beautiful song = too much to handle
One of the most heartfelt tributes I've ever heard, Michael Stipe loved David Bowie. He whispered so gently on purpose!
Beautiful ❤️
This man is utterly irreplaceable in the music world.
I love Michael's voice
Meravigliosa versione ed interpretazione!!!

Stipe sings in notes of chords that are like he sings in different hz or something. What he does is very difficult and magical.
I am delighted Mr. Stipe, respect for bowie and you
En el punto más alto vibró con la voz de Stipe! 💕
Few artists do an original justice or make it their own... Few... Very few... But he. Oh he absolutely hammers this!
great song, great voice.........
Not much more to say, than this version is brilliant!
Maravilloso Michael Stipe

Wow he.makes the song sound mystical and ancient
fascinating
I always thought that Bowie was going to live forever
Sinead O'Connor does a great cover version of this song, finding new corners and depths and heights, the way truly great singers do.
big yeppp
Anyone got a link to that?
Looked for it can't find it.
Cobain's is the best cover of this.
Charles Black nah
Welcome to the Hipster Parody Channel
So beautiful ...
J’adore
IMMENSO.
This is loverly
This is excellent!
Great song.
Profond, émouvant.
He looks like a Greek priest or monk now. I only say that because I'm Orthodox. Loved them since mid 80s
Eccezionale!!
this probably has a much deeper meaning to those at the top of the murky music industry.
Awesome

dopo cinque anni devo rinnovare l'eccezionalità di questa interpretazione e desidererei accostarla al grande maestro Franz Liszt.
What a ventriloquist he was
Underrated joke. Nice :)
We passed upon the stair

Okay, but here's another one I could screw up

He’s got a terrific voice
Why?
Боже, Майкл Стайп, он великолепен, и эта песня…

The Gondor of rock n roll.

Seriously - where's the video? Great version by Michael Stipe!
John J I have it on a flash drive
@@anon-jt6zy Hi pal! Do you steel have the video? Would you please send it to me? Thanks a lot!
Wow!
Considering how many covers of this song exist, this one is quite anonymous.
Great post thanks. BEAUTIFUL MICHAEL A WANT YOU MEET YOU BEGINS OF DIES
Great song, fantastic vocal, better beard.
When I listen to this song all I can see is Venom snake walking through the desert with quiet by his side.
Kept you waiting huh?
Give us the original video. Bowie would not mind,
unico degno sul pianeta di poter cantare questa canzone di David
Why'd they take it down from Jimmy's channel?
No idea but when I saw this, I thought the error must be repaired :).
Minimike Asperger That's awesome! :)
THANK YOU !!!!
copyright issues may be
Don't think. I don't own copyright, I have no problem, they let the song on my channel.
Where's the video..??
I could listen to Stipe doing a whole Bowie album...but a better accompaniment needed
We All Have Cell Phones, So C'Mon Let's Get Real
Thanks prince Martin voice of god
Garson on keys?
It’s Billy Joel in his Lenin Halloween costume
Kurt Cobain literally stole this song from Bowie, then made it his own! Kurt's version of this is pure genius. Every breath is heartbreaking.
true
you know this isn't a video of Kurt Cobain though, perhaps you'll be happier over there.
It's called a cover song and musicians do it all the time.
Is this video broken? The play bar moves, but the image stays the same and no audio?
the video is just a still image, but the audio still works for me
So many covers of this song but, I still don't understand who's The Man Who sold The World.
When I saw this performance I automatically thought this guy as being the king of hipsters.
I guess you weren't so alone after all.
