I was skinny and constantly shamed for being too skinny, then I gained weight with my pregnancies and was shamed for being over weight. Now I've been losing weight with diet and exercise and now I'm getting "are you ok? I'm worried about you..." and It's literally taken me 3 years... you can't win so just be happy and tell them to f*#& off

Saaame!! Ive been called fat all my life and i remember in highschool i dropped to 106 pounds and was skinny as heck and they still called me fat, then the next year i went up to 142 and everyone said OMG you got so fat you were skinny last year. Like bIH you said i was huge last year and i had to suffer through that. Even my dad would always say stuff like " You were so skinny when you were little idk what happened" ..... yOu mean when I was 6 and my body actually started getting taller ?! WTF. Then finally i get to around 165 as an adult and become happy with myself at nearly 30 years old, ive been more secure than I ever have been with my body despite what anyone says. Then i got covid and it made me drop down to 129-130 in like 2 weeks it was insaneee. So then severall months after when im finally around family again its a mix of OMG YOU LOOK SO GOOD and Omggg whats wrONG WITH YOU lol you cant win. Like i do understand not all of them know it was covid so I dont blame them, but my dad knows and has pointed out every body fat on me to poke and make fun of over the years was suddenly, instead of leaving me alone about my weight for once was all Whats wrong with you, are you sickk??? LIKE seriously after all that time saying i should lose weight your gonna be judgey about me losing weight and keep acting suspicious. People are weird lol. Also it kinda hurts that people think i look good now when I had gotten to a place where I thought I looked good before..

It's like it's not actually about you but about how those critical people project their own insecurities onto you. No need to pay any attention to that then. They'll always find things to complain about. Maybe they need a hug and be told you love them anyway despite their judgments about you that have nothing to do with them. At the very least it may get them confused and then they'll remember it and think about it. If it pisses them off, good because judge not lest ye be judged.

That fart sound affect was made by my dad (it is air blown onto his hand) who was a sound engineer. He would always make these sounds around the house to make us and himself laugh. He died this past July 2nd. He would have been quite chuffed knowing his sound affect is used so often. Makes me smile every time i hear it and other sound affects he created. Most of them are in public domain now, so i often hear them.

As a former fatty, one of the movies I found most relatable about overweight people was this Korean movie called 200 lb Beauty. It’s odd but I found the main character likable, relatable, and portrayed pretty well. She isn’t constantly eating or portrayed as selfish or lazy. She is just overweight and the movie is showing her struggles and how she is treated. The ending is fantastic in my opinion as well. It has an interesting message about appearances and plastic surgery. If your okay with reading subtitles, i say give it a watch!

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm usually wary with korean shows/movies because of their intense beauty standards and so the only one I'd seen was Oh My Venus! which from what I remember wasn't too bad. It still depicted the character as a fat woman who was constantly eating, but she also made a strong effort to have a healthier lifestyle with good diet and exercise as opposed to resorting to plastic surgery or impossibly quick/enhealthy weight loss scenarios. I think it was a pretty good depiction of someone dealing with an eating disorder and battling with weight loss.

The one thing that stuck with me from that Kaley Cuoco film was the scene where her character tries to explain/legitimatize folks who comment on the weight of fat people because maybe they are concerned about peoples health (I've heard this excuse so many times 🙄) and another girl in the movie who is actually fat says, "You really think people "moo" at us because they care about the healthcare system?" Lots of that movie is totally stereotypes, but something about that line and how realistic and somehow empowering it felt for her to basically say, "Are you being effing serious right now?" stood in my brain after only seeing the film once.

You might want to try Dumplin. It was a pretty good movie about a heavyset girl whose mom did all these talent shows. The mom was kind of reliving her glory days and she spent way more time helping the other contestants than she did with her own daughter. Her daughter felt like she was not welcome to be a part of her mother's world because she was not thin. She reacts to this perceived rejection by trivializing talent shows and her mother's work until one day she gets talked into signing up for the local talent show. She finds that it is a lot more work than just being thin and she starts actually trying. In the end, she does not win because she started trying way too late but she does end up proving to herself that she could be beautiful and that others had always seen her as such. The movie ends with the mother and daughter becoming closer. The mom starts paying more attention to her daughter's needs and the daughter has more respect for the good work her mom does.

@@catburglarnami thin people don't eat whatever. That's not how it works. When you see them eating burgers or the like, it's once a week or socially. They skipped meals I'm sure, several times that week as well, or had snacks instead. Or they smoke. Calories in, calorie expenditure. It's basic science. Trust me I've gone from size 2 to 8 in my adult life. Super skinny people say they eat normally, and they don't really. Big people say they eat healthy, and they don't, really, or they are consuming alcohol and getting calories from that. Take my friend who says she's eating only salad and doesn't understand why she's not losing weight and then one day I see her in her car, hiding, eating a whole pizza to herself. Or my co worker who sits down all day except to make McDonald's runs while I'm laboring and just snacking or light meals. Or my teacher who is 500 lbs plus who, whenever we discuss an event, even musical, she just talks about what sort of food she can get. Food is such an addiction for some, be it eatting too much or dieting.
That being said I am not trying to diss on bigger people or even thin ones, but lifestyle and eatting habits are so engrained I think people don't realize. The habits are learned from parents very early on.

@catburglarnami just as "skinny" ppl shouldn't judge an "overweight" person the same goes for "overweight"ppl not judging a "thin" person. No one can help being born with the metabolism they get. And you never know what's going on with others whether it's eating disorders (eating to much or starving themselves) to medical conditions, medications, etc. Ppl just need to work on loving and accepting themselves rather than judge others by how they look. There's SO many actually important things we all need to be worrying about. Especially in America right now.

My ex stopped wanting me when I got pregnant. We had a healthy baby, which made him very happy. However, he was no longer attracted to me and he would never admit it. He was too much of a "nice guy" to admit it. But I gained weight after the baby, and he just started treating me like his platonic responsibility. The only reason he would sleep with me again was to try and have another baby. I had a miscarriage the second time I got pregnant. I had post partum depression both times, but I was trying to pretend to be happy because he didn't want to deal with it. We stayed together as long as we did just for our only daughter's sake. She never had a sibling because he would never sleep with me again after I had the miscarriage. He wouldn't even talk to me or look at me, if he could help it. But he still smiled and pretended to be nice. Eventually he broke up with me. He refused to go to counseling or work on our relationship. So while I tell people my truth, that he did the absolute bare minimum when it came to our relationship, taking care of our child, and helping with house hold duties, he tells people we just "fell out of love". I heard him say it to one of his friends and I realized that HE fell out of love and that's why he didn't change. That's why he made no efforts. Because I was definitely still in love with him. And it sucks knowing that a major reason he "fell out of love" was because of my body changing after I had our son. He married me. He made a promise that he'd love me unconditionally. Well, apparently he had conditions and the most important thing to him was staying thin (Though when we met, he was in the USMC and he sure as shit doesn't look the same as he did back then. But *I* didn't marry for looks). What kind of man does that to the mother of his child? What kind of HUSBAND does that to his wife? This video gave me a realisation - for medical reasons I have barely been able to eat for most of my life, and though I now realise I was probably 'slim' before (didn't think so at the time), since I started actually being able to eat 12 months ago I've gained a significant amount of weight and it's been distressing to see myself change so dramatically. But there is nothing wrong with slowly adjusting to eating like a regular person! It's okay to enjoy all the things I've been denied my entire life! Most people go a little crazy when such heavy restrictions are lifted and.. that's okay. I am okay, I can cope with this and with the choice of being 'slim' or not being in constant agony, I know which one I would choose.
I don't judge others for their weight, so it would be nice if I could learn to extend that grace to myself, too. Thanks Jaime, for giving me this understanding.

I’ve sat at tables where I was the only girl who didn’t get asked to dance, and guys routinely asked for my friends’ phone numbers. Once, a group of guys yelled out the car window at me, “Nice legs, shame about the face,” which was a popular song in the 1980s. The whole wedding her friends made weird toasts and comments about her disordered eating, like her BFF made a speech about how she doesn’t eat much so that she can get her food boxed up to give to a homeless person, and that even though she hates food, she went to McDonald’s to go get McFlurries for everyone a party, even though she wouldn’t eat one herself. There were weird “jokes” from her family during dinners that she “just doesn’t eat” and that it has nothing to do with the wedding. At the actual wedding dinner, each table had a different set of childhood photo pairings of her and my cousin at different ages from babyhood to senior year of high school. You could literally see the time frame of her going from healthy looking to literally gaunt. I was seated at a table includig my parents and mom’s cousin, and his wife just started taking really loudly about how she obviously was anorexic and needed help…and everyone at the table was letting her go on. I had to snap at her to shut it down because even though she very clearly had an eating disorder, how the hell would it help to gossip loudly about it on her literal wedding day?! I felt so badly for her, but I guess that’s the price to pay when you’re wealthy and grow up in Los Angeles.

I relate with the binge eating. I was anorexic, nearly died from it in 2015 (over 50# under), recovered (mostly), and had a beautiful baby boy in 2020. I continued to be more than 20 pounds underweight until my pregnancy with him when the doctor told me to eat. Constantly. It was torture. He fearmongered me, saying if I didn't eat 10-12 meals a day (yes, even having to get up at night to eat A MEAL), my baby would probably die. Then I kept eating a lot to make sure I produced enough milk for him. Now? I'm so used to eating, it's hard to stop. That was almost 2 years of torturous binge eating that reprogrammed me that when I'm stressed, if I don't want to starve myself I have to force myself to eat even when I know I'm not actually hungry. I struggle to keep my weight DOWN. I'm not really "plus size" yet. But I used to fit in a small and now I'm in an extra large. I look in the mirror and I want to cry, then die. I don't think others who are a little chunky or even obese are gross, they have their own struggles. But on me? I feel disgusting. I hate the way I can feel my body ripple when I step too hard. I don't know how to RE-reprogram my brain. I can't stop eating and craving garbage. I'm so afraid of reverting back to starving myself and getting sick again now that I have my sweet baby boy, but hate this blubbersuit I can't take off. 😔
