Whenever I became an angst filled teenager my late father played this to me to basically tell me stop being so miserable and cheer up at times and it annoyed me how much it worked. Now, when I feel down I play this and think about him and tell my depressed inner being to "shut up'a you face!" and it helped. Thanks, Dad

My father immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1965. When he heard this song I was just 13 years old . I remember him laughing himself hoarse hearing it the first time. Made him giggle every time he heard it until he died in 1991. Cute song that’s close to my heart for the memories it has attached to it.

A few years back I took my dad to a movie matinee. We were waiting in line for popcorn and this song was playing over the loudspeaker. The only problem was, it seemed to be stuck and the only a portion of it played
. . .over and over and over again. At one point I said to the teenaged popcorn jockey, "isn't this driving you nuts? The song playing over and over?" He hadn't noticed...until that moment and said "thanks a lot lady. Now I can't unhear it." We found our seats and sat down, still playing until the previews came on. At one point my dad turned to me and said, "Yeah. Thanks a lot lady!" I have loved this song ever since. My dad is gone now and occasionally I find this song and play it. It makes me smile. @@forestfire1232 Tbh though I can understand why, this song is very very catchy. In terms of like a good pop song, it's great. Novelty songs are often very successful. I think there's also a lot of merit in novelty songs-look at Frank Zappa's entire career.
But yeah nah Vienna is great art and I think it's really stood the test of time, it's certainly more well remembered that Shaddup Your Face.

Played on the smallest accordion I've ever seen

This is why I laugh at things a lot of people miss. Big Accordion Solo is probably the funniest and most ironic part of this, but everyone seems to miss its humor A. An accordion solo is just ridiculous in and of itself B. A BIG accordion solo is totally making fun of the instrument because there should never be such a thing outside of a cheesy Italian restaurant or Lady in the Tramp. The fact that it's celebrated is so funny and serves to underpin the ridiculousness of the whole thing. It's like saying "Big Kazoo Solo!"

@@ccali327 what an ignorant statement. The amount of genres that use the accordion, including solos, is massive. So many examples of a countries folk music, including ours in Australia, rely heavily on the Concertina and Accordion. Dylan’s Basement Tapes comes to mind as having some fuckin ripper accordion.

      And yet, it's a concertina.

I remember when this used to play at the local roller-rink. Loved this song! Just happened to think of it the other day. So fun to hear it again.
