    Thank you I’m gonna try this today- my delphiniums reseeded all over the place and some are growing fast in front of other flowers and blocking their sun. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

    Thanks for the detail on this. I guess for me it is necessary to sacrifice the height in the first year for more blooms. Important for gardener's to know that this only applies to first year flowering as in the second and following years the plant should produce a number of leaders.

    I did this with first year seedlings and after 3 weeks there has been no response from the potted plants. One transplanted to the garden has started sprouting and one hasn't .I am in Yorkshire Uk and wondered if it was too late in the summer.
    Thanks.

    Thank you. I am just wondering if after you cut off the top, if you then transplanted the plant and planted it deeper. Thanks.

    My heart stopped for a second when she snipped the head off! I hope it works.

      Yes it works! I learnt this through an accident. I always grow delphs and they are always one or two big tall spikes. I grow them in pots, then transfer them to the garden in bare spots when they are already starting to flower so they look their best. My gardener was carrying a fine tall specimen in the wheelbarrow to plant out when he accidentally knocked the spike clean off! We were mortified, but I told him to plant it anyway, even though it had no flowers left. It then, over a few weeks, grew the most abundant new flower spikes that was really impressive! Ever since, I have snipped off the tall single flowers before they flower, as they are growing, and each time I get a much better result with multiples =) I came across this video by accident while researching how to make delph cuttings, as i always grow from seed and they are not the easiest. so dont be scared!

    Can you reuse the seeds that grow from the top?

    • @bubblerings
      @bubblerings 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, most delphiniums and the (annual) Larkspurs make seeds as the flowers wither and ripen.
      -But, then the energy of the plant goes into seed production.
      ( Unless the experts say otherwise, I believe that your remaining flower stalks will grow and look better, if you cut the old stalk down, instead of letting it make seeds)
