Love the Potomac series. They do well for me in Pennsylvania US zone 6/7. I was intimidated at first because they are so tiny and slow to get going, but they are vigorous once outdoors and are still in full bloom as of October 15.
Aiming for seed starting by February 1 in the American South zone 8a. With crazy weather almost guaranteed, I’ll see what happens in my hobby garden. This year’s stars were dahlias. Next year is always a wild card. Good luck to all gardeners!
Great quick, but thorough, video. My favorites are Madame Butterfly (I’m Zone 8 on the west coast of the United States). They bloom all summer long, up until frost which is late October.
I'm z9a (I know y'all don't use those that system). The thing I don't like about the USDA zone map is that it doesn't take into account average summer temperature. My z9a is in the deep southern US, and it's hot and humid AF... Snaps... Don't do well in our summers. They love our fall, winter, and spring though! I just switched from a bedding variety to a cut flower variety (for height), and I'm excited to see what happens. Hopefully, they reseed themselves as they tend to do in my garden.
Yes I always get asked about my usda zone, but it isn’t really a good indicator of climate conditions. I bet you’ll love the taller variety after loving the bedding type!
I am in Montreal Canada zone 5B, I transplanted my snapdragons in August expecting our first frost around September 21th , now looking at long term temperature to the end of October, I see no frost. I have no idea how they'll fair. It's a good thing that I just grow cut flowers for fun .
Thanks for the great video! I grow in the US in 5b, I love the Rocket series.😊 I planted snaps a few weeks ago here I started in August. Looking forward to seeing how they over-winter! My goal is to have them next spring to include in my peony bouquets! ❤
Potomac Appleblossom is my favourite if I had to choose and grow just one. I feel like the fragrance is the strongest with this variety and the creamy white and blush pink show many other colours to advantage.
This seems like a new type of format for you. I like it. Question. My snaps(Potomac) got thrips this year. How do I prevent this again. Maybe Chantilly(more open) would work better?
Thank you Sarah for this very complete informative video ! I don’t quite understand the principle of USDA zones in Europe. In Belgium, we are supposed to be 8a, but we have our last frost mid may. I sawed my snaps mid August but had poor germination and they didn’t grow much. So, I haven’t been able to transplant them 6 weeks before the first frost and I still can’t do it 😞 Moreover, it’s very difficult to find the nice varieties that we used to buy in the UK after Brexit. This year I could find some Potomac and Mme Butterfly, but no Chantilly …
Very informative, I love them so this video is very helpful. I’ve missed the boat for this autumn but will do it next year as well as spring sowing. Thanks for sharing
Lovely video! What was the snapdragon variety that was white with purple veins & had a yellow speckled throat? That variety is so beautiful! My favorites are also the Potomac Lavender & Costa Apricot. 😊
Is it still worth sowing them late now and is there variety more suitable for that?? Costa / Potomac i assume? Just for private garden cuttings... Berlin zone 7a/b i think... Great video btw
That's interesting, I am wondering if I could. In my boaders I didn't take out a snapdragon, just cut back and it came back in the spring, I didn't think it would 🤔 I might try some
Hi there, i am also in East Yorkshire! I have 2 large allotment plots and want to increase flower production on them. Is there anything i can sow at this time of year other than sweet peas? 😊
Helllllp. Australian here. It's my first time growing snapdragons and I'm chuffed with the flowers....BUT......I've got bud worm 😭. Does this ever happen to you? What to do???
This is the most informative video I've seen regarding snapdragons! Great job. You've gained a subscriber just from this video alone :)
Same! Awesome video

I am also from PA and grew Potomacs but I could not use them due to thrips. They were beautiful, around 4 ft high.

In my beds, dahlias are always the star, a true hero flower.
I love the snapdragons! I’m zone 3 and have to plant in spring but they do like our cool weather.
To add to an already great list of favs the Maryland series are a great traditional looking group 1 with lots of good colours

I love those too 😍

Ah they're lovely, thank you for sharing 😊
wow, I was number 800 to view! How exciting. thanks for the very informative video. It was great!
Loved this. Didn't know they were classed in varieties, but very useful for succesional growing. I'll sort them into groups, I have a number!
This video is gold. Thanks a lot!!!
I really like the format of this video, Sarah. Please would you do more like this? Thank you!
Yes definitely!
I’m encouraged to try some other varieties, your blooms are beautiful.
Hi great video I love the Apple blossom variety!
Love the Rocket - White I'm in zone 3 . . . I would love to be able to sow these in the fall . . . I'm trying to be content with my lot in life lol
Potomac Appleblossom is my favourite if I had to choose and grow just one. I feel like the fragrance is the strongest with this variety and the creamy white and blush pink show many other colours to advantage.
Good morning, roses and love, my dear sister. I am Munir, 37 years old, from Morocco. 💚🇺🇸🇲🇦🌷
Thank you. Excellent video. I just discovered Monaco orange, and will be planting that in the spring.
Thank you so much again for the very detailed information for all!!

Can you tell me what the long purple flower is at :16 and again at :19 is? I came here for snapdragons but fell in love with those purple stalks :)
I think you mean Limonium suworowii pink pokers.
Very informative, I love them so this video is very helpful. I’ve missed the boat for this autumn but will do it next year as well as spring sowing. Thanks for sharing
Lots of useful info, thanks very much.

Excellent, thank you
Are all four groups suitable to autumn sow?
Very helpful video! 😁

Well done!!!
Do you use row covers over your autumn sown seedlings Sarah? my faves are madame butterfly, and the costa series. Great video - thanks 🎉
No, I don’t use row covers, we typically don’t get many hard frosts here and the plants are very hardy.
Thanks Sarah, great video as always. Do you have your snaps out all winter and if so do you cover them. 🤔
Yes I leave them out all winter and I don’t cover them.
So we don’t have to Cold stratify the seeds?
Hi, from which store you buy your seeds?
Rocket White for its strong stems, USDA zone 4/5.
Ooh I’m growing them in little window ledge pots I’m not sure how they will go 😂
Helllllp. Australian here. It's my first time growing snapdragons and I'm chuffed with the flowers....BUT......I've got bud worm 😭. Does this ever happen to you? What to do???
Anyone in zone 10a? Do you plant them in full sun or partial shade?
Am I too late to sow some snapdragons now? X
I would say so if you are in the UK. I would prefer to save the seed for spring. X
@@bloomandgrayyes I'm in the UK I'll leave it until spring. Thank you x
Mine keep getting rust😢
You wasn't wearing your sexy shorty short shorts, anyway do they overwinter or die off when first frost appears.
🎉❤💐🪸
