    You have a lovely garden there. Last year I used lots of canes and string to support mine and had some success. This year I am going to try these hoops and get them in now before the 'flop'!

    Hello from Lakeview, Michigan, USA. Your garden is stunning. How tall are your stakes overall and how far off the ground are they positioned?

    • @GardeningatDouentza

      Thank you for your comment. You will have to judge the height of the peony hoops from the video as I'm not sure which ones were used in this video.

    Also I just bought massive begonia hanging baskets for €8 each at my local nursery. A total bargain! At the end of the season should I dig the tubers up and plant them up again in Spring? Do you have a video on planting tubers?

      Yes, lift the tubers in autumn. I think I do have a video about it. Let me check.

    I did find hoops help, but if it's both rainiy and windy, nothing can support them well. Maybe I should create a micro climate for them, which is less windy

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Near a wall would be fine but a sheltered position is good too. My delphiniums are very exposed here.

    Your delphiniums are beautiful. Can you recommend names of colourful flowers for shade?

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are plenty of nice plants for moist shade. Dry shade is more tricky. If you're looking for spring colour, hellebores are a reliable one. In summer Japanese anemones or astilbe are very good. Japanese anemones do spread and spread though.
      If you just google 'summer flowers shade', you will get lots of suggestions.

      Hoops are available in many garden centres, sold as peony hoops.

  • @martineyeo7491
    @martineyeo7491 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried the low hoops and it didn't work. Several of my delphiniums' stems broke last year. I'm going for the higher hoops this year. I'm also going to get a different variety of delphiniums that have much stronger stems that don't need staking.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that. Delphiniums with strong stems are a must really. Good luck.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends how tall your delphiniums are. I guess the hoops (not stakes) should come up to about a third of the delphinium heigth.
