    I am a retired American who has lived here in the Philippines for almost 3 years now. I completely agree that the people are very kind, helpful and generous. The rare problems are due to poverty and the pressures associated with it. Theft and scammers are problems here from time to time. But, they are no more common here than in any other big city in the world....likely less of an issue here. Common sense is the key to avoiding these issues. Don't hesitate to come here as it is a truly beautiful country.

      Divert Living not in anyway. I am in Antipolo which is just outside of Metro Manila. Please let me know if you guys will be in the area. Lots of stuff to explore and do here. You are most welcome to stop by. Perhaps we can give you some tips on things to do around here.

      Its true. Everywhere has these problems. Poverty will bring out the desperation in people (and rightly so). As Americans, we really are very rich in countries like this. You could literally work a fast food job in the US, and travel over there, and live well for the other 6 months out of the year in style. My advice to anyone would to treat the locals with generosity and respect. It will likely repay itself 10 fold. Good video, man.

      That is absolutely right. Tell them do not come to my country if they are disrespectful because here in America they don’t respect us. They tell us to go back where we came from. Too many racist in America. I think tourist people are very ignorant about Philippines.

    My best friend and I were at Manila airport trying to contact my cousin in the Philippines and couldn’t cause I didn’t have a Philippines sim. I was starting to get really frustrated when a complete stranger noticed us and asked if we were ok. He kindly helped us and called my cousin on his mobile phone, even accompanied us to meet my cousin. This is very typical of Filipinos... they are so kind and caring and friendly. Thanks so much for sharing this vlog ❤️

    You guys got it all figured out....the best way to enjoy your time in the Philippines is to be open minded, be respectful, and most important of all, interact with the locals. Once you gain their respect, they will have your back. Philippines is safe! But, having said that, you should always be mindful of your surroundings, regardless of where you are. Maraming salamat...for letting the world know that Philippines is not as bad as it is being portrayed. You guys are always welcome in my country. Mabuhay! Such kind words. Welcome back you two! Is the Philippines safe? Is any country safe? Be safe, be smart, be aware but remember why you chose to travel. Divert Living Tah i just came back from Bangkok after 11 years since my first Thai trip. I was amazed how the cars are parked so close to each other in some areas in Pratunam. Some cars even touched each other bumper to bumper. Some parked cars are already touching a post or a sidewalk stair. It was surprising! Omg cars or car repainting must be so cheap they dont mind scratches and bumps. So funny here in PH a guy wouldnt cry for a girl but would definitely be so emitional about a tiny scratch on their car.

    🔴 TRAILER of our second visit in philippines : th-cam.com/video/kcUTnM5Flpg/w-d-xo.html
    Like many other countries, some area in the Philippines can be dangerous where more violence tends to occurs and areas that are generally considered safe. While it is important to be aware of threats, it can be inaccurate to label an entire philippines as dangerous travel destination.
    From our experience of traveling the philippines, Visiting the Philippines is extremely fun with beautiful beaches, friendly local filipino and beautiful surrounding nature. Plus, it's a cheap country to travel to, it is totally great value for your travel budget.

      Thank you for creating this video... the Philippines is a very misunderstood country for foreigners partly due to the fact that foreign media almost always focuses on poverty here in the Philippines mostly in documentaries. When foreigners think of the Philippines they usually think of Poverty, Slums, Crime... etc... they never think of it's history particularly its *(Pre-Colonial History)* that was destroyed by Western colonization, it hurts me when I see ignorant comments made by foreigners saying that *(The Philippines wouldn't be civilized had it not been colonized by the Spanish, Filipinos would be catching fish with your bare hands if you weren't colonized or You would be wiping your ass with leaves if you didn't get colonized)...* If hurts me to read this comments especially if you know the truth... Foreigners also never envision skyscrapers when they think of Manila... But I must also say that the Philippines itself isn't great at presenting itself, a lot of Filipinos are brainwashed and ignorant of our own history and they even take pride in the fact that we got colonized *(which is obviously one of the effects of colonial mentality).*

      Wherever we go in this world there's always few area of any places in any country that we have to avoid ...so we must always take a precautionary measure,and always be alert on our sorroundings .Sometimes in a very safe places its the places that we are so please and very calm and we trust everybody beacuse it is said to be the very safe place ,unknowing to us people take advantage on us ...so in travelling always put in our minds that we are new to this area ...we don't know sometimes people in a bad situation or victims of any circumstances that they can do bad things even if they are very nice people..

    I been traveling to Philippines since 2008. I have never had a bad experience and i travel all over alone. Just do your research and make sure you don't travel to the bad places , like deep Southern Philippines. But as long as you respect the people and use good common sense , you should have no problems. Its truely is more fun in the Philippines and i stayed from 1 month to as long as 3 months. But, never less than a month. I love it , and the people are the most helpful and nicest people in the world considering its a poverty country. Its my home away from home and plan to retire there. I'm home sick now for the Philippines and can't wait to go back.

    I've been to the Philippines only a couple of times but I wouldn't put it in any other way. I lived in Singapore for a while, and Filipino are some of the most friendly, smiley, positive and genuine people I know, but "some" will also try to take advantage of you. Nevertheless, it should be straightforward to recognize those few rotten apples and enjoy your time there. Especially for a couple like you, holding cameras and obviously travelling around, Filipino will definitely help you, because they are very welcoming and genuinely like to help people. I mean, look at your own videos... you guys are fun and outgoing, so everyone will love you no matter where you go (unless Jimmy, you take their pen...). I would avoid Mindanao region (but some areas are quite safe too), because terrorism and foreigners kidnaping is a reality there (and the government will say, kill them both... which I kind of agree to some extent, since they went there on their own, knowing the possibility). Manilla is great depending on where you go, but in some areas, pickpocketing is a concern, specially done by children asking food or money, while the others dig your backpack. If you understand that poverty is a big problem for a part of population, it's easy to understand they don't have much of a choice... however, single travelers are more often targeted than a couple. In other words, you guys should be safer in Philippines, than some areas in Europe or the USA. Rural areas should be mostly fine, as long as you respect their culture and beliefs (as with anywhere in the world). Safe travels guys! Can't wait for your next videos, hahaha.

      Hey Rual ! sorry we missed your comment here 😭 in my opinion i feel like as i look like filipina, maybe they won't really target jimmy... i'm not sure tho what do you think about this ? and seriously it is sad as most of the time we got warned not to go to slum area due to pickpocket and that is what i agree with you that poverty is the root, it is the same like in Thailand... this is pretty sad for me. Jimmy said he will never touch anybody's pen without permission again hahahah 😂

    • @raulmspeixoto
      @raulmspeixoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Divert Living generally speaking, from my experience white people won't be targeted as much when they travel with asian friends. The reverse is also true for you if you come to europe or US alone VS with Jimmy. You don't look Filipino to me, clearly a Thai girl (prettier) hehehe, but Phillipines is big, some people may think otherwise.

      I will not generalize Mindanao as unsafe place. There are places not safe though but its in a remote places where rebels and terrorist located. This is just a misconception about Mindanao. You can look at some of the vlog of Kyle Jimmerman aka Kulas (Becomming Filipino) he is been in Mindanao more than Visayas and Luzon. My mother side is from Mindanao and I know the place.

      Even the local news is full of negative stories. Thus, foreign media find it easy to capture the crime and poverty issues since most news is in English. No wonder tourists are often surprised to see the huge disparity in what they read. However, it helps in eradicating group tours. Let other countries get the volume of tourists, this will help in preserving the pristine islands in the Philippines.

      Ok, its better than Boracay and i have been to Boracay 5x. Not much in Puerto Galera but the action spots are White Beach and Sabang. White Beach has all these camp ladyboy shows in the night, best entertainment ever.
      And Sabang is like a small scale Pattaya and there is one place that has women in a window like Amsterdam. The last thing you expect to see on this mountainous island, lol.
      Also the island Mindoro which Puerto Galera is on, has the greatest range of sea life on the planet, even more so than the great barrier reef.

    Very good to see and hear. I agree so much! For instance in Brasil in my experience and travels it cannn be dangerous but if you behave in a normal way and are aware of the local rules and things to do and not to do it isnt bad at all. Like for instance take a taxi instead of going on foot at night in certain areas and not to flaunt expensive cameras or watches and most important not to behave like a superior human being like some tourists can do. Respect and behaving like a polite guest is so important.The people will be helpfull friendly and kind. What you give is what you get back!.... Nice vid guys. Thank you!

    • @DivertLiving
      @DivertLiving  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree ! In Thailand for example drunk foreigners got shot by the taxi driver because he was rude and yelled at the taxi driver ... I don’t know the exact true story behind that and I don’t think taxi driver did the right thing at all... but I think we don’t really know what the person we interact with has been through maybe they had a very bad day and not in a good mood... so it is better to always be polite and respectful no matter what !:D

    Great work on this one guy's! I will agree with you that it's very safe there but you need to be smart and aware at all times. My only bad experience was being pick pocketed at a crowed festival (only lost a vape setup) and one time we had tandem bag snatchers come up beside us while driving slowly at night on scooter and cut my wife's bag and sped off. Both times we were lucky nothing valuable was stolen. it's a example of what you need to watch out for. I will upload my video of it, caught the pick pocket on camera

The people are some of the kindest and loving i have ever met. People will welcome you into their home and the sense of community is really special. Filipinos also have a incredible amount of pride and love for their country and they love food. Use your common sense and go there with an open mind and you will have a wonderful time.

    The Philippines is just a great country with, in general, very friendly people. However it must been said that the far Southern part Mindanao is a no go zone. And of course, like in all countries, there are some bad apples too so always be alert. Get yourself informed well about prices. I've seen a tricycle driver who asked 200 PHP for a trip that should cost 40 PHP.

      Ahh yea transportation can be a struggle if you don't know your prices

    I personally have been to Philippines 5 times, this is where i met my beautiful wife, at no moment in my travels to many islands and cities i have never felt threatened or scared, even when i travel to mountains of cities far away, i always feel safe, the Philippine people are the friendliest and welcoming people that i have ever met, i cant wait but to join them again in 16 days from now...

    I was in Cebu the day this was published!! I'm definitely going back to Philippines. Awesome people, delicious food, beautiful scenery and never once did I feel in danger when I traveled to Mindanao despite what the travel warnings noted.

    Maybe dangerous for locals, like me, lol 🙃🙃🙃!
    Having been to so many key destinations in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia, I noticed that Filipinos seem to be the friendliest and the most accomodating - without any bias. Filipinos love entertaining people, specially foreigners. We love trying out conversation in English, it helps us polish our comms skills. It may sometimes be BROKEN ENGLISH but we love talking 🤣🤣🤣 #NoseBleed
    Such a nice review. I havent missed a single vlog since you first post your Ph arrival. Looking forward to more great vlogs!

    There are parts of the country that are not safe to tourist. The southwest part of mindanao. and even in some parts of metro manila, just avoid slum area, dark narrow street. Be vigilant, google the safety of the area first. But in general its safe.

    • @henrymercado9949
      @henrymercado9949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good thing we have now 911 same in the US as emergency hotline.

      Thank you Henry!:) How about northen philippines ? do you think it is safe in general ?

    • @henrymercado9949
      @henrymercado9949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Northen parts are generally safe but then again try to avoid slum or poor area where mostly you get pick pocket hehe. There are good places in central and northen luzon. pampanga, subic zambales, pangasinan, ilocos region. The thing is just a bit expensive compare to visayas region.

    • @henrymercado9949
      @henrymercado9949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you went to chinatown in manila that is one of the not so friendly area of manila. Pick pocket is rampat in some parts of metro manila so always check your belongings.
