    I just got this a week ago. This has a compass too. The seconds needle points north and the digital display in the bottom shows the direction you are point to.

    When I look at the ProTrek, I see a line that's not quite a G-shock but not a traditional Casio style watch (see: digital square) either, it's somewhere in between. Big enough to use in a quick glance, solid lume, plenty of features but not as bulky as a G-shock. The name itself lends me to look at it as a hiker/outdoor watch that won't suffer the abuse of something like a Mudmaster/Frogman etc. Great looking watch that does all you want and little more.
    Cool look at the ProTrek and nice job Random Rob making Bruce get out of his comfort zone!

    Good review. I have the same basic Protrek except for the one with the green nylon strap. Agree super comfortable watch. Very legible. I would say the legibility on yours is even better. Like yours my negative display is one of the best I have seen for legibility when it comes to negative displays. I am also a G-Shock guy who took a chance with Protrek and am glad I did.

    I rock with the protrek pet-50 (-2 the blue version) and to be honest I love it . Pro treks and G shock masters of G are really the only watches that really give you the most value for your money. Also when you begin to put readable feature on a watch why would anyone want a smaller screen. You can always return to where you started, parked or got off a train with the location memory function. I have a step counter, weather change info due to the barometer.... there is so much to love.

    Why do you wear a watch so close to your wrist where the crown digs into your hand? I wear mine just past the bone bump on my wrist

    Great watches, I have 2 of the PRW-6800Y-1JF (Black), PRW-6800-1JF, PRW-2500R, PRW-240-1, Casio Data Bank AW80V-5BV and a PRG-600-1CR (that is very similat to the one you are reviewing. Great video by the way.

    I've got a G-Shock and 3 Pro Trek's and I have to say that my fav is the Pro Trek's. Not many people I know even know they exist and I kinda like that. Apart from that they are just great watches and they look very, very smart/different/nice if you ask me. Great review btw.

    One question, the strap glows Blue or green?

    I´ve my eyes on this model since Rob´s review... Oh boy, this is my next watch! The only function it lacks which would make it the ultimate watch for me: steptracker/fitness features. Nevertheless I am buying this for myself for X-Mas!

  • @andrewconrad2849

    A bit late, but they already make what is basically a smaller version of this, with the atomic clock syncing: the PRW-60 and PRW-50 series. There are even a couple sapphire crystal models. Only problems are that many of them aren't available normally in the US, and obviously the price.

  • @watchroll3310
    @watchroll3310 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Bruce! the reason is big is because the sensors inside require a lot of space. Actually this protreks were bigger! and this model you have is the downsize! that's as small as it can get at this point haha, but Casio is trying to make them smaller and smaller.

    Casio has already made some Pro Trek ana-digi models that are smaller than the PRG-650. They are the PRW-50 and PRW-60, which are about 4mm smaller in diameter. protrek.com/asia-mea/en/watches/PRW-60/

    You are totally right!! I've been put off buying G-Shock because of the large size, so I bought a GW-M5610-1ER and it is a great size. I would buy more G-Shock or Pro-Trek if they were max 46mm. Come on Casio, we want a smaller option.

    Not sure I get these. The Casio Royale does what I need, has 100m of water resistance and is much smaller. Also, an under appreciated and stylish square Gshock the G-8100 does my tough duty if I need it. I might have to pick up one of the gshocks like you have to compare but as far as this pro trek I just can justify it especially for that size. I got the High Gear Altiforce a number of years back for an ABC watch and it's just so much hassle and you always have to reset things and that was just about the smallest you could get at the time. I want to like this but like 99% of the people commenting the size makes it not make sense.

    I've always looked at G-shock as gaudy, for the toxically-masculine meathead (if only for show and not for utility), laughably overpriced and obnoxiously big (mostly the round versions), making guys with >7" wrists look thin and girly. So, being that you're a G-shock guy, tell me what YOU love about them, and if you use them for their incredible durability, or why you wouldn't go with a nearly identical "Illuminator" style. I'm genuinely curious to understand the reasons one would pay over $200 for a tiny digital display with basic complications and average sport watch water resistance UNLESS they work in the Arctic regions, as a logger, or oil rig worker. :)
