So someone else got a raise for me being forced more responsibilities. Not just that but after the first time I called off my hours were cut in half from 40 to 20. When I seen that I told my manager that I was done and that I'll finish that week, but to take me off the schedule.

Boys and girls if this happens here are a few pieces of info that can help especially if you are new (may vary depending on what rules made by your employer)
    1. If this situation occurs you are entitled to say no. It may be hard to say no especially if you’re new but it is not your obligation to do anything outside your job listing unless you are compensated for it and even then you can say no. Once you do your job everything after if liable for you to be compensated for i.e overtime, callouts, call ins, role replacements (like in the video).
Edit to the first point and i guess all points: you aren’t obligate to do any other roles outside your job description or shift. If you do your job and you are finished or another division asks you for help you should be compensated depending on the rule i.e if you work in the front and you’re a cart crew member you may be called to fill in for a cashier if say one of them is absent or short staffing whereas say you work night shift (which i do currently so i have experience in it) and say your “job” every night is to pack the rice lane that is your “nightly task” your managers and extension the company have put you into position to handle but say a night that another co worker is absent and your manager says go and help in that lane, this is not the same as in the video. Your job is do whatever is required of you under a certain range (read your contracts please) and within your shift i.e in the situation above you cant just tell your manager no especially if you were finished and had nothing to do with the remaining hours, that would be a waste of a resource on the managers and by extension companies part.
    2. If you are tasked to take over a separate role in place of somehow you are supposed to be paid whatever that rate is i.e if you are a base merchandise stocker but your forklift driver is absent and you can drive and assert that role, you are suppose to be paid whatever the rate is that forklift drivers get.
    3. Please check with your HR. I know the whole stigma of “HR is there to protect the company from you” and that is true but they are also they to maintain the rules set by the company which protects you from overwork and possible abuse. Just ask HR if they have a rule book or some form of written (it can be a digital file as well but a physical file would be beat) documentation so you can know your rights regarding work, what you can and cannot do, pay rates etc.
    4. If you do any type of extra work i.e overtime, callouts, role replacement etc try to do your form immediately and give them to HR. A-lot of HR and admin staff who handle these forms to not care and will not make inquiries about your forms partly due to if they don’t know you did work that required a form then they cant help you but also less work for them.

Naw team leads get paid 6 dollars more than regular associates, I work overnights at Wal-Mart. The exact reason I don't tell them I know how to use the walking stacker and electric pallet jack because they try and make you into temporary team-lead. I work and get my aisles done but I play stupid to everything else cause they know ima top worker

I quit my last job bcuz of this bs.😒When I was interviewed the owner of the store said he was also looking for an assistant manager but he really wanted to hire from within and asked if that was something I’d be up for down the line I said yes. About a month in the general manager started training me on manager stuff (counting the drawer, doing inventory, handling the truck every Tuesday). After that it was over. I was working whenever she was off. I had to stay when she wanted to leave early. I had to open 2 days out of the week and open if she was late. There was literally only me and one other employee bcuz everyone quit. And I was done when she took a 1 week vacation and I had to work 8 days straight 8 hours a day. The only raise I got was 45cents🥴I woke up on my last day took the key back before she got there and blocked everyone number. I will never do that shit again.

"Mike usually stays like... 30-40 minutes after to like... sweep the line and..."
"Cool, cool, im glad he does that for you. Should be good to see him do that when he gets back."
That was usually my response (Nowhere near manager duties though) for when being asked to do stuff other people would do that was above the pay grade, just give one of those head nods with raised eyebrows like "Man, Mike's a good worker! You should tell him how much you appreciate him when he gets back."
"So you're not gonna do it?"
"No, I already did extra, im not doing extra extra. but hey! When Mike gets back, im sure he'll be super happy to hear how much you appreciate his work!"
