yeah i see what your saying- it’s just that the selection pressure that happened before you got those dogs makes it extremely difficult. i believe it’s possible but man, i do not envy the task. the style of bulldogs i like have an expansive prey drive, are social in public, territorial around the home, and have good enough nerve to bite man or beast without hesitation all in a days work. “the point and shoot” family dog. to each their own, and good luck!
Mine will do the same except ours don’t typically go in public. They go off the land but not in social environments. They will deter any threats man or animal but I need them to be more mild mannered around our livestock and poultry. It’s hard to balance the prey drive and “backbone” aspect of it while getting them to just be “protective” of our animals.
With all the time and effort you have put in I really hope you will succeed. Your SBT may be the missing link cause its a showline dog and a very chill one so hopefully the outcome of that breeding is a succes. Have you ever considered outcrossing to an Old English Bulldog. I dont mean the fat inbred merle Old English that is popular now but there are some breeders that focus on the working side of the dog. You could also consider outcrossing to a smaller Johnson/Hybrid type American Bulldog cause most of them lack that prey drive in my experience. My dog is hybrid Johnson/Scott with almost no prey drive. Good breathing, very athletic and much longer nose but still build like a tank. I live next to a petting zoo with cows, pigs, sheep, chickens etc and no problem letting him roam free with these animals. The only thing he chases and sometimes kills are rats for some reason. He is very gentle with kids but also has excellent guarding skills. You mentioned in your previous video that you were considering outcrossing to another breed. What breed were you thinking of? And the people how are hoping you will fail are probably money hungry breeders who only care about looks and size. Its good to see people like you actually breeding for a purpose.
I haven’t considered anything other than the SBT before but I am becoming more and more open to other things. A Johnson dog or Hybrid dog would possibly be an option, Olde English Bulldog I would consider too as long as muzzle and structure is good. A friend of mine mentioned to me that a redbone coonhound might work and I’ve considered more of a baying type dog so it’s something I would consider.
Other than size I think I have exactly what you are looking for after 2 years of working with him. ;) I sat on the porch and watched keets walk over him the other day. Good luck man!
I’m extremely excited about your cross. I want to see that cross. I will be getting a White English after the first of the year. I look forward to seeing your dogs
Certain Lab's....1/100 would be a dog that'd be a great farm dog. But the bulldog already has the characteristics more prevalent you needed inherent. Crossing the breeds, in general, will result in healthier dogs.

Most people don’t understand this but I do know it’s not a guarantee to produce the right type of dogs.
