Definitely nothing like this out there. I've watched a lot of dog training videos and attended classes etc. But these videos are so much better. I wish I was in the states only for this reason to be able to go in person. I love that you are not afraid to show the whole process and with big intimidating breeds.
Cane Corso owner here. A completely unsocialized female we got at 4mths from a crappy situation. I can honestly say in most hands this girl would have been a disaster. Not for the faint of heart and not a dog for those who like to "humanize" their pet. Consistent, confident, firm leadership. The breed you choose should match your abilities. Research Research Research.

Cane owner as well , 7 months totally agree. The other person in the house , tries to treat her like a spaniel. Entice her as opposed to commanding her. She’s learned to listen to me, and ignore her.
My husky/samoyed/akita mix was attacked today by some sort of american bulldog (or mix, don't know) It's the only dog I walk away from, because that dog goes crazy... Today he broke loose and immediately attacked my good hearted dog. Mine was dodging him a couple of times, but the darn thing got him. At that point mine showed some teeth, but still barely. The man watching him (owner on vacation...) was appalled and scared shit for my dog after he got him off mine. He was certain mine was seriously harmed. Thank the Lord mine is so sturdy, and has his double coat. No harm done. As if he didn't even notice. Mentally as well, was good immediately. There will most definitely follow a conversation with the owner as soon as he comes back from his holiday. This behaviour will kill another dog one day or his dog will be killed by law. Not acceptable.
Joel is an absolute professional. I got a Yellow Lab about a year ago, and being a careless first time dog owner he became impulsive and developed an attitude, long story short, in a small amount of time this channel alone has provided amazing guidance to the point where i can loose leash walk him. Its a work in progress, but your dog really reflects how good of a leader you can be. Seeing how a dog should actually be trained makes me realize how soft society has become. They are companions, not little babies. Thanks Joel!
There are a few things you do that are unique in the dog training world. You even got a mention on a Tom Davis live for the trainer who gets dogs with other dogs 😉. You’ve helped me so much with my dog with the ‘hey’ and ‘clap’ in his play, it’s amazing and just on a flat collar and gentle leader and no nonsense attitude. Last Sunday, first time at agility, not once reactive around any dogs, first time ever, goals 💪.
Joel's videos have helped our family with our rescue pitbull. She was great with people but gave us terrors with how she reacted to dogs while on leash. She now has a brother! Thanks Joel!
Hope things work out for you. Leach reactive is common. A dog may react to others with "flight or fight." The leash takes away the dogs "fligh"t choice. He believes that he has no other choice. My pitbull is dog reactive in my neighborhood. If I go with her to an unfamiliar place she is fine.

Joel I am a no non sense dog owner of 3 large dogs. They all have rules, bounders and limitation in the home and outside the home. As I meet new people/friends at the dog park, # 1 issue is they are not assertive by nature so it doesn't come natural to them so then comes all the problems with their dogs. I always refer to your videos but you are right, there are so many soft spoken passive dog owners who feel they will hurt their dogs feelings. Thanks for your videos since I learn something new with each and one of them.
My AB used his broad chest and head like a bulldozer, but he never bit anyone or anything. He was 110lbs of pure sweetheart I sure miss my Jager boy 🐾✌️🇺🇸
Same with my 90 lb female AB… 0 aggression issues but she def uses her fat head and thick body to bump and push people and other dogs around… I have to calm her down sometimes when she’s playing with my German because she gets too rough… not by biting but by literally running full speed into him like she’s a linebacker lol… They are built like tanks, and are sturdy as hell

I totally appreciate this video! My dog Bodhi is an American Bulldog 80lbs and I have allowed some bad habits to form because I babied him too much. I have had him for over a year and he is awesome. Very low key. I will be getting a gentle leader and re-establishing that I am the Boss.

We (rescue group) do this with all dog intros when meeting potential adopters, and/or resident dogs in a foster home. It makes such a difference to the success of a meet & greet. I’ll say it (all day) to everyone- the simplicity of your techniques make it so CLEAR! It’s so easy to know if behaviour is “within criteria”. It’s manageable for almost everyone- without trying to juggle treats, clicking, commands, leash handling. Your videos have not only helped me, but have also helped our foster community. Ooh I also recently did some exposure/desensitisation at a dog park with my guy. He got to meet dogs through the fence on a long line, he also got the freedom to run around an empty dog run “meeting” all the previous dogs. He has been remarkably calmer about seeing dogs since. Have I mentioned you’re my hero recently?
I went all over utube when I first began dealing with my hyper reactive dog. This channel is the only one that shows the entire process without a lot of talk, using the dogs themselves. Larry Krohn shows his entire process, and if you want specific obedience skills, he's golden. Ivan Balabanov is amazing but he tries to make his insights secret and charges for whatever he might have contributed. Matt Welch in Florida does great things with packs of dogs, but you never get to see the first day or two, which is when he's doing Ivan's secret stuff. Anyhow, Joel Beckman is the best, in my opinion, at guiding the regular dog owner who has bad dog behaviors to deal with. So many thanks.
Hi Joel! I wanted to thank you for your videos. I was able to stop my two large dogs (55 lb and 70 lb) from fighting by yelling "HEY" from my diaphragm as loud as I could. It startled them so much, they stopped fighting. The larger dog, Woody, was dumped on the side of the road and has food guarding/aggression issues. We've been working on this, but he loses his cool every now and then. Thank you for your training!
I've just been given an American bulldog cross staff (that was going to get put to sleep if he hasn't found a home) he is reactive to dogs. I'm trying to work with him before he comes to me for good as I have a bone mouth sharpei already who is trained and friendly with all dogs unless they lunge. I don't want to put her in danger. I have rough knowledge in dog training but not with reactivity. and this video has helped a lot
A dog that size has to have a strong leader and I never understood what that meant until I got a GSD; this is a good example of what that means. Also, those are two beautiful dogs, wow

We used to do that with some other rescues and coincidentally today with a Malamute who afterwards at the dog park went after most dogs but mine. My dogs did not join his brawl attempts tho. Was a controlled dog park session, we knew everyone there. Did some "hey, clap, grab"s to the Malamute.

We foster dogs, cats & kttens. We currently have a buncha pets, & ONLY 1 is a foster pet 😳🤗 #1 is A family dog: Male. GSP-Weim, Neutered. 7 yrs old (+/- 1 yr); #2 THREE adult family cats. 2 FM,1 M. Indoor. Ages range from 4yrs upto 12 yrs old (+/- 1to2yr) #3 A foster dog: Female. 1.5 y/o (+/- 6 months). Doberman. AGGRESSIVE (fear/anxiety based) She likely won't bite UNLESS she's cornered OR perceives she's in unsafe & inescapable situation I JUST donated/invested/purchased TWO, 6 week group obedience courses for her!!! (6 wk level1& 6wk level 2 😍🥳 👩🎓) WE Start this week!! I like your leash recommendations. In 2015 I switched FROM leather leashes that clip on collar TO 💓no clip💓slip lead. BECAUSE Anxious fosters get out of leash attached to collars & run away. BUT imposevusible for a dog to escape a durable slip lead❤ Our dog doesn't wear collars, so using slip lead is way more convenient. Slip leads have to be removed immediately. They. MUST be removed if you're not holding onto the leash. Recently, (2022), via Amazon, I came across A soft. Loose. Six foot. Chocolate Brown - LEATHER SLIP-LEAD 🥰. It was less than $25 too! I LOVE that leather slip lead!!

We have an American Bulldog named Luna and a Doberman named Karma. Luna is just a baby. Weve had people say theyll never get along. They dont bother each other for now. But ive also met people who have had both breeds together for years
I have an intact Doberman. There's an a-hole in my condo complex with an American Bulldog - Pitbull mix who is also intact. This guy walks his dog 2 times a day and doesn't let it socialize. He has the dog "for protection". Being the a-hole he is, I can understand him having enemies. Anyway, we tried to let the dogs meet one day and his dog got aggressive so he figured it could never work out. Since then, if I came within 50 feet of him while walking my dog, he'd start cursing me out, calling me names. Even saying (from 120 feet away) "If you didn't have that dog I'd break you F'n head." Real brave at 120 feet right? Anyway, one day I come around the corner of one of the buildings and he's about 60 feet away. His dog comes charging up and starts fighting with mine. The guy comes running up, screaming at me (as if I knew he was behind the building) like it was my fault. He pulled his dog off, I held mine back and they stopped trying to get at each other. Meanwhile, this guy is accusing me of following him and doing this to him "every day". I tried to tell him I'm legally blind and can't really see him from a distance. He said that was BS. Like I'm making it up. I swear if he was within reach I would have clocked him. Every time we happen to be in the same area, his dog starts barking at, and pulling towards mine. My dog just keeps walking and ignores him. This guy clearly has this dog just to present an image that he's a tough guy. Maybe he'll see this video.

OMGosh thank you!! We have an American Bulldog/Am Staff mix who looks almost identical to this guy. She's almost 9 yrs old, we rescued her at about 7 yrs old. She is very leash reactive and also reactive in the car whenever she see's a dog. Thing is when I have her I won't let her get away with it, my husband is a softie and he never corrects her behavior and he takes her more places than I do. So it's a constant battle because she never improves. My husband let's her bark on leash and in the car. At home he let's her get away with all kinds of behaviors. She crowds him when he eats, she even used to crawl in his lap (she's 80lbs) and he has a bad back, but he let her even though it was hurting him. My husband is a push over. I used to work with dogs and I have more of your attitude with them. I'm very loving and motherly towards my dogs, but I am also in charge. And our dogs look at my husband as the "play thing". Me they come to for food or if they feel insecure and fearful (fireworks, etc.). I need to make my husband watch this because you have better explained this and maybe he will listen better to another man. I have given up and our dog is out of control on leash. I stopped walking her because I am tired of starting all over again when I make progress and my husband will undo it because he just let's her do whatever she wants. I'm so frustrated. My husband wanted a Rottweiler and I said, no way! You cannot handle a breed like that I would worry the dog would dominate him. My husband is too passive and I don't know what else to say to him to get him to see how important it is when it comes to these power breeds to NOT be that way. :( And just to add the reason we even have this AmBull is because she was my cousins dog and they were moving to Spain and could not find a home for her. So I took her. Otherwise knowing my husband I would not have a powerful breed like this. My husband would so much better with a Cavalier King Charles! lol
I've used this method before, but I know that it's not a cure-all can you show a video that will take it to the next level such as having them off leash and then maybe advancing into having them off leash outside of your presents. Nice job Joel.
A good thing also give the dogs plenty of space.. better that u let them meet somewhere outside.. u don't want them to feel trapped in a small space when they meet.
I agree with your training, and feel I do a good job following that,but dog isn't even close to the reactively that my male gsd has. He would of flipped out the second prince came out. No matter what......if there a dog,he will loose it. And I follow your four keys. He's a fantastic dog,probably best dog I ever had. But I just can't seam to get past this issue...I keep working at though. Thank you.
We are boarding a female 8-month old Chesapeake Bay retriever who is IMPOSSIBLE. We've had her for a month and she goes back to her owner on Sunday. (Dogs on Deployment). Your videos have been extremely helpful and we will be strongly recommending that her owner reviews your videos to get a handle on controlling this dog. She is hyper, pulls on the leash, and is completely consumed with dominance - which does not work well with me. She's intelligent, can certainly learn and does learn, and is every bit a PUPPY that will probably become a great adult dog. But she has a way to go and it must happen with her owner. We wish her and her owner well.

Thank you for presenting a session with an AB, having two of those I understand why most training channels avoid presenting sessions with this breed, however there are lots of us who prefer this breed in particular. I know they are heavy, big, sometimes stubborn, sometimes with an attitude, but hey! With the right training they can be amazing dogs. One thing I’ve learnt is that living with an AB (training wise) is a constant WIP, everyday is training day. I have two questions, you mention Jax is there with his sister? Are they litter mates? What’s your approach to littermate training? say male and female, not always getting along, and rehoming is not an option for any of them. My second question, you have mentioned in several videos not to let dogs sleep with the owner, I’m relatively new to your channel so If I missed the video where you explained this , please reference it so I can watch it, other than hygiene reasons, why not letting the dog sleep in the bed? Thank you again for each an every video you post, and specially for featuring AB in this one.
You'll find him explain the sleeping in bed thing if you watch enough of the videos. It's one of the four things he mentioned if you have a dog with some issue, reactivity, resource guarding, aggression, etc. I know it's probably the toughest one for most of us to do! But in a nutshell if you follow the four things he mentions, it pays big dividends with dealing with the other issues you have. It doesn't have to be forever, but it's amazing how much everything changes if you do those four things! I hope that helps a little bit!

@@relvilian I get it, I do. The bed thing is the hardest in my opinion! It's just a part of Joel's theory about being the boss. I have a dog that was incredibly fence reactive, to the point she would redirect and attack my other dogs. The amazing thing is, I did the four things (though I'll admit I caved on the bed thing on occasion) as well as regular walks, and the fence reactivity was so reduced without even dealing with that directly! It was pretty amazing. And it doesn't have to be forever. I feel like that's one I can allow again, but the other 3 things? No way, like he says in the one video posted here in the comments, everything changed the day you start attacking other dogs. I hope that helps a little bit.

Your work is more important to me personally then any other thing on this planet at the moment so I hope you read thjs man . And it took me like way to long to write because it’s a bunch of emotions and trama and I blame myself for all of it . Thanks for everything man id be in a very bad place still if not for you to be honest. Cesar’s great I watched all his shows and all the seasons but they wouldn’t of helped me with Beamer . ****Your videos would of prevented me from 3 separate ambulance rides to the emergency rooms *** your fuckjng videos you’re powerful I wish you were a TH-camr 6 years ago man. Oh not counting the rides to the ER for Bruce and Bentley 2 of my 3 dogs severely hurt because I failed my other , Beamer . you know that terrified dog ur working with : I have a 80 pound sharpei/rot/ pit bull mix : with his level of fear BUT unfortunately its all aggression from fear he’s a combo of that other dog u talked about on another video . The crazy aggressive girl . Like her he went through the highest level of abuse u which U explained :he was tied to fences while men made other dogs bite him in the face over and over and effectively turned him into a fighting dog . I didn’t know this until our first incident years later . The shelter didn’t tell me I wish They did is go to the emergency room 10 more times for Beamer : anything is better than feeling like I failed him . I wish I knew of you before I rescued him. At first because of ignorance and a natural with dogs I was able to have 3 pit bulls ) rescues live in harmony for 9 months - with a 14 year old mini dachshund lol-- I rescued them months apart but within the same year. then obviously bad things happened and the dominos started to fall. Plus me losing confidence and blaming it on myself after every incident . ***Almost had my thumb amputated Thjs past January*** just from holding off his full bite from one other baby boi -Bentley -- he is a lot like Prince and last paragraph will convince you why . The only dog Beamers is not scared of is our 14 year old mini dachshund : blu . And let me tell you little blu is not scared of him lol . So I had to rehome my 3rd - Bruce - after all dogs lived in harmony for almost a year together : every attack was really bad. It was for his own safety that fucking sucked I miss him but he has a great new pit bull brother and 2 loving parents. But it was fuckjng hard on me . Mad respect to fosters parents. But it’s just unfortunate. Then 3 years later shit got worse after no problems .Beamer - the abused and my second rescued in order - will At least be able to stay with my parents and his buddy blu when I leave with Bentley these upcoming months. Anyway you have no idea how important you are . his name is Beamer - originally graverson-- I just wish the shelter would of told me that I needed to do things very perfectly or in a certain way for a long time and maybe things wouldn’t of happened the way they did; of course I blame myself but I just didn’t know until it was to late . everyone is healthy and happy and things are looking good for everyone . Except my thumb at the moment lol. People are evil man I swear: he really is a sweet heart : loves people even after all that torture that’s why I’m going into the field of dogs after college - going for a masters in bcba Ironically- if I decide to finish I started 3 days after almost losing my thumb with a 14 inch rod inside holding my tendon together accompanied by 4 fractures : idk hope you read this because maybe I’d still have all 3 of my boys with me . Instead I failed Beamer and endangered others who I have a deep love for . Not to mention I feel I failed the breed itself . But I’m finally getting back to normal. Now I hope I can repay Bentley for all he’s done for me and others he’s also recovering from the tramua but apparently a lot faster than me lol . I’m just happy I saved him from major surgery. Unlike Bruce . Id give my entire hand to save any dog but the trama has really messed with me from seeing how wrong something so good can go so wrong so fast . This last paragraph is for you Bentley , Boscoe , and prince . Thank you , you help me escape from a sad reality and I try not blame myself as much. Cheers . Now the very last paragraph 4 years summed up ******If it wasn’t for Bentley ****Beamer would of probably of been put down when he went after the neighbors dog a 2 month year old shepherd . My fault he got out and I was right behind him full sprint but he would of killed that dog. Thank god Bentley bit Beamer on the ass and got him to drop the dog before any real damage happened to him and my hands for that matter. My hands were in his mouth but I was not gunna get that thing open. ***Oh not to mention Bentley did the same thing when Beamer put 28 stitches in Bruce’s chest and neck even with my holding some of his bite back ****he bit his ass when he attacked Bruce without him I would of buried Bruce that day. Bentley saved 3 dogs the little guy , Bruce , and he saved Beamer from getting put down by stopping him from killing them. I hope I can make him happy after I get past all this. These all happened years apart except for the last two of him attacking Bentley bc I wasn’t on my game with their resource guarding for fuckjng 5 minutes out of the 5 years Bentley and Beamer have been loving brothers . Hello! I’m good with my husky on walks and with meeting other dogs. I can say we are a good team. I will be taking care of same giant American Bulldog in few days. Can I handle a dog on a walk when I feel a bit of fear ? Is he gonna follow my lead? Is it possible that if I will act like I’m the boss and there are rules I always enforce, it will be enough to control the dog? Please someone help. Dog weight more than I am. And he has no rules, he does whatever he wants. He’s 8-9 months old. Is the training, discipline and my attitude will do?

Hello, I just finished my first week at a dog boarding and training facility and I was wondering if you or your wife could do some videos on group management and what to do if there is a trouble dog or multiple in the group (humping, play that is to rough and so on). My managers encourage us to use treats and positive reinforcement but one of the dogs just learned that if he does the bad thing and then comes and sits in front of us to get a treat. Any tips or advice? We normally have groups between 15 to 22 dogs.
A lot of dogs and there shouldn't be any humping at all. Doesnt sound like good evaluations. And your right dog got away w being crappy causing collision puts on happy fex gets rewarded. Why are they not removed? A lot of dogs can't handle a dog park essentially what that is
Someone asked why does a small dog need to be trained. I turned to them and told them all dogs need to be trained. No excuses. My 6lb dog is just as well behaved as my Doberman if not better.

There are a few things you do that are unique in the dog training world. You even got a mention on a Tom Davis live for the trainer who gets dogs with other dogs 😉. You’ve helped me so much with my dog with the ‘hey’ and ‘clap’ in his play, it’s amazing and just on a flat collar and gentle leader and no nonsense attitude. Last Sunday, first time at agility, not once reactive around any dogs, first time ever, goals 💪.

Hope things work out for you. Leach reactive is common. A dog may react to others with "flight or fight." The leash takes away the dogs "fligh"t choice. He believes that he has no other choice.
My pitbull is dog reactive in my neighborhood. If I go with her to an unfamiliar place she is fine.

Joel I am a no non sense dog owner of 3 large dogs. They all have rules, bounders and limitation in the home and outside the home. As I meet new people/friends at the dog park, # 1 issue is they are not assertive by nature so it doesn't come natural to them so then comes all the problems with their dogs. I always refer to your videos but you are right, there are so many soft spoken passive dog owners who feel they will hurt their dogs feelings. Thanks for your videos since I learn something new with each and one of them.

Same with my 90 lb female AB… 0 aggression issues but she def uses her fat head and thick body to bump and push people and other dogs around… I have to calm her down sometimes when she’s playing with my German because she gets too rough… not by biting but by literally running full speed into him like she’s a linebacker lol… They are built like tanks, and are sturdy as hell

I totally appreciate this video! My dog Bodhi is an American Bulldog 80lbs and I have allowed some bad habits to form because I babied him too much. I have had him for over a year and he is awesome. Very low key. I will be getting a gentle leader and re-establishing that I am the Boss.

We (rescue group) do this with all dog intros when meeting potential adopters, and/or resident dogs in a foster home.
It makes such a difference to the success of a meet & greet.
I’ll say it (all day) to everyone- the simplicity of your techniques make it so CLEAR! It’s so easy to know if behaviour is “within criteria”. It’s manageable for almost everyone- without trying to juggle treats, clicking, commands, leash handling.
Your videos have not only helped me, but have also helped our foster community.
Ooh I also recently did some exposure/desensitisation at a dog park with my guy. He got to meet dogs through the fence on a long line, he also got the freedom to run around an empty dog run “meeting” all the previous dogs.
He has been remarkably calmer about seeing dogs since.

I went all over utube when I first began dealing with my hyper reactive dog. This channel is the only one that shows the entire process without a lot of talk, using the dogs themselves. Larry Krohn shows his entire process, and if you want specific obedience skills, he's golden. Ivan Balabanov is amazing but he tries to make his insights secret and charges for whatever he might have contributed. Matt Welch in Florida does great things with packs of dogs, but you never get to see the first day or two, which is when he's doing Ivan's secret stuff. Anyhow, Joel Beckman is the best, in my opinion, at guiding the regular dog owner who has bad dog behaviors to deal with. So many thanks.

Hi Joel! I wanted to thank you for your videos. I was able to stop my two large dogs (55 lb and 70 lb) from fighting by yelling "HEY" from my diaphragm as loud as I could. It startled them so much, they stopped fighting. The larger dog, Woody, was dumped on the side of the road and has food guarding/aggression issues. We've been working on this, but he loses his cool every now and then. Thank you for your training!
I've just been given an American bulldog cross staff (that was going to get put to sleep if he hasn't found a home) he is reactive to dogs. I'm trying to work with him before he comes to me for good as I have a bone mouth sharpei already who is trained and friendly with all dogs unless they lunge. I don't want to put her in danger. I have rough knowledge in dog training but not with reactivity. and this video has helped a lot
A dog that size has to have a strong leader and I never understood what that meant until I got a GSD; this is a good example of what that means. Also, those are two beautiful dogs, wow

We used to do that with some other rescues and coincidentally today with a Malamute who afterwards at the dog park went after most dogs but mine. My dogs did not join his brawl attempts tho. Was a controlled dog park session, we knew everyone there. Did some "hey, clap, grab"s to the Malamute.

Dogs walking side-by -ide or behind one another is a non-confrontation meeting. Face-to-face coming fro different directions is threatening by its vey nature.

I like your leash recommendations. In 2015 I switched FROM leather leashes that clip on collar TO 💓no clip💓slip lead.

Anxious fosters get out of leash attached to collars & run away. BUT imposevusible for a dog to escape a durable slip lead❤
Our dog doesn't wear collars, so using slip lead is way more convenient. Slip leads have to be removed immediately. They. MUST be removed if you're not holding onto the leash. Recently, (2022), via Amazon, I came across A soft. Loose. Six foot. Chocolate Brown -

I have an intact Doberman. There's an a-hole in my condo complex with an American Bulldog - Pitbull mix who is also intact. This guy walks his dog 2 times a day and doesn't let it socialize. He has the dog "for protection". Being the a-hole he is, I can understand him having enemies. Anyway, we tried to let the dogs meet one day and his dog got aggressive so he figured it could never work out. Since then, if I came within 50 feet of him while walking my dog, he'd start cursing me out, calling me names. Even saying (from 120 feet away) "If you didn't have that dog I'd break you F'n head." Real brave at 120 feet right?
Anyway, one day I come around the corner of one of the buildings and he's about 60 feet away. His dog comes charging up and starts fighting with mine. The guy comes running up, screaming at me (as if I knew he was behind the building) like it was my fault. He pulled his dog off, I held mine back and they stopped trying to get at each other. Meanwhile, this guy is accusing me of following him and doing this to him "every day". I tried to tell him I'm legally blind and can't really see him from a distance. He said that was BS. Like I'm making it up. I swear if he was within reach I would have clocked him. Every time we happen to be in the same area, his dog starts barking at, and pulling towards mine. My dog just keeps walking and ignores him. This guy clearly has this dog just to present an image that he's a tough guy. Maybe he'll see this video.
There are a lot of ignorant, scared and lonely people in the world. I pity the poor dog that has to live with him.

OMGosh thank you!! We have an American Bulldog/Am Staff mix who looks almost identical to this guy. She's almost 9 yrs old, we rescued her at about 7 yrs old. She is very leash reactive and also reactive in the car whenever she see's a dog. Thing is when I have her I won't let her get away with it, my husband is a softie and he never corrects her behavior and he takes her more places than I do. So it's a constant battle because she never improves. My husband let's her bark on leash and in the car. At home he let's her get away with all kinds of behaviors. She crowds him when he eats, she even used to crawl in his lap (she's 80lbs) and he has a bad back, but he let her even though it was hurting him. My husband is a push over. I used to work with dogs and I have more of your attitude with them. I'm very loving and motherly towards my dogs, but I am also in charge. And our dogs look at my husband as the "play thing". Me they come to for food or if they feel insecure and fearful (fireworks, etc.).
I need to make my husband watch this because you have better explained this and maybe he will listen better to another man. I have given up and our dog is out of control on leash. I stopped walking her because I am tired of starting all over again when I make progress and my husband will undo it because he just let's her do whatever she wants.
I'm so frustrated. My husband wanted a Rottweiler and I said, no way! You cannot handle a breed like that I would worry the dog would dominate him. My husband is too passive and I don't know what else to say to him to get him to see how important it is when it comes to these power breeds to NOT be that way. :(
And just to add the reason we even have this AmBull is because she was my cousins dog and they were moving to Spain and could not find a home for her. So I took her. Otherwise knowing my husband I would not have a powerful breed like this. My husband would so much better with a Cavalier King Charles! lol

I've used this method before, but I know that it's not a cure-all can you show a video that will take it to the next level such as having them off leash and then maybe advancing into having them off leash outside of your presents. Nice job Joel.

I agree with your training, and feel I do a good job following that,but dog isn't even close to the reactively that my male gsd has. He would of flipped out the second prince came out. No matter what......if there a dog,he will loose it. And I follow your four keys. He's a fantastic dog,probably best dog I ever had. We are boarding a female 8-month old Chesapeake Bay retriever who is IMPOSSIBLE. We've had her for a month and she goes back to her owner on Sunday. (Dogs on Deployment). Your videos have been extremely helpful and we will be strongly recommending that her owner reviews your videos to get a handle on controlling this dog. She is hyper, pulls on the leash, and is completely consumed with dominance - which does not work well with me. She's intelligent, can certainly learn and does learn, and is every bit a PUPPY that will probably become a great adult dog. But she has a way to go and it must happen with her owner. We wish her and her owner well.

"It's like a cinderblock head. Nothing hurts it, so why not slam it into my leg?" Yeah it's all bone though and hardly any brains 😂 You'd think they learn after a few times to watch where they're going, but my dog still bumps into me, walls, posts, etc after 9 months.
Thank you for presenting a session with an AB, having two of those I understand why most training channels avoid presenting sessions with this breed, however there are lots of us who prefer this breed in particular. I know they are heavy, big, sometimes stubborn, sometimes with an attitude, but hey! With the right training they can be amazing dogs. One thing I’ve learnt is that living with an AB (training wise) is a constant WIP, everyday is training day. I have two questions, you mention Jax is there with his sister? Are they litter mates? What’s your approach to littermate training? say male and female, not always getting along, and rehoming is not an option for any of them. My second question, you have mentioned in several videos not to let dogs sleep with the owner, I’m relatively new to your channel so If I missed the video where you explained this , please reference it so I can watch it, other than hygiene reasons, why not letting the dog sleep in the bed? Thank you again for each an every video you post, and specially for featuring AB in this one.
You'll find him explain the sleeping in bed thing if you watch enough of the videos. It's one of the four things he mentioned if you have a dog with some issue, reactivity, resource guarding, aggression, etc. I know it's probably the toughest one for most of us to do! But in a nutshell if you follow the four things he mentions, it pays big dividends with dealing with the other issues you have. It doesn't have to be forever, but it's amazing how much everything changes if you do those four things! I hope that helps a little bit!

@@relvilian I get it, I do. The bed thing is the hardest in my opinion! It's just a part of Joel's theory about being the boss. I have a dog that was incredibly fence reactive, to the point she would redirect and attack my other dogs. The amazing thing is, I did the four things (though I'll admit I caved on the bed thing on occasion) as well as regular walks, and the fence reactivity was so reduced without even dealing with that directly! It was pretty amazing. And it doesn't have to be forever. I feel like that's one I can allow again, but the other 3 things? No way, like he says in the one video posted here in the comments, everything changed the day you start attacking other dogs. I hope that helps a little bit.

Oh not counting the rides to the ER for Bruce and Bentley 2 of my 3 dogs severely hurt because I failed my other , Beamer .
you know that terrified dog ur working with : I have a 80 pound sharpei/rot/ pit bull mix : with his level of fear BUT unfortunately its all aggression from fear he’s a combo of that other dog u talked about on another video . The crazy aggressive girl . Like her he went through the highest level of abuse u which U explained :he was tied to fences while men made other dogs bite him in the face over and over and effectively turned him into a fighting dog . I didn’t know this until our first incident years later . The shelter didn’t tell me I wish They did is go to the emergency room 10 more times for Beamer : anything is better than feeling like I failed him .
I wish I knew of you before I rescued him. At first because of ignorance and a natural with dogs I was able to have 3 pit bulls ) rescues live in harmony for 9 months - with a 14 year old mini dachshund lol-- I rescued them months apart but within the same year.
then obviously bad things happened and the dominos started to fall. Plus me losing confidence and blaming it on myself after every incident .
***Almost had my thumb amputated Thjs past January*** just from holding off his full bite from one other baby boi -Bentley -- he is a lot like Prince and last paragraph will convince you why . The only dog Beamers is not scared of is our 14 year old mini dachshund : blu . And let me tell you little blu is not scared of him lol .
So I had to rehome my 3rd - Bruce - after all dogs lived in harmony for almost a year together : every attack was really bad. It was for his own safety that fucking sucked I miss him but he has a great new pit bull brother and 2 loving parents. But it was fuckjng hard on me . Mad respect to fosters parents.
But it’s just unfortunate. Then 3 years later shit got worse after no problems .Beamer - the abused and my second rescued in order - will At least be able to stay with my parents and his buddy blu when I leave with Bentley these upcoming months.

******If it wasn’t for Bentley ****Beamer would of probably of been put down when he went after the neighbors dog a 2 month year old shepherd . My fault he got out and I was right behind him full sprint but he would of killed that dog. Thank god Bentley bit Beamer on the ass and got him to drop the dog before any real damage happened to him and my hands for that matter. My hands were in his mouth but I was not gunna get that thing open. ***Oh not to mention Bentley did the same thing when Beamer put 28 stitches in Bruce’s chest and neck even with my holding some of his bite back ****he bit his ass when he attacked Bruce without him I would of buried Bruce that day. Bentley saved 3 dogs the little guy , Bruce , and he saved Beamer from getting put down by stopping him from killing them. I hope I can make him happy after I get past all this. These all happened years apart except for the last two of him attacking Bentley bc I wasn’t on my game with their resource guarding for fuckjng 5 minutes out of the 5 years Bentley and Beamer have been loving brothers .

Hello! I’m good with my husky on walks and with meeting other dogs. I can say we are a good team. I will be taking care of same giant American Bulldog in few days. Can I handle a dog on a walk when I feel a bit of fear ? Is he gonna follow my lead? Is it possible that if I will act like I’m the boss and there are rules I always enforce, it will be enough to control the dog? Please someone help. Dog weight more than I am. And he has no rules, he does whatever he wants. He’s 8-9 months old. Is the training, discipline and my attitude will do?

Hello, I just finished my first week at a dog boarding and training facility and I was wondering if you or your wife could do some videos on group management and what to do if there is a trouble dog or multiple in the group (humping, play that is to rough and so on). My managers encourage us to use treats and positive reinforcement but one of the dogs just learned that if he does the bad thing and then comes and sits in front of us to get a treat. Any tips or advice? We normally have groups between 15 to 22 dogs.
A lot of dogs and there shouldn't be any humping at all. Doesnt sound like good evaluations. And your right dog got away w being crappy causing collision puts on happy fex gets rewarded. Why are they not removed? A lot of dogs can't handle a dog park essentially what that is
Sounds like the dog park bully. You bring a dominant dog that can go from dominate to aggressive in a second. Would small groups (5 max) work for you?
Someone asked why does a small dog need to be trained. I turned to them and told them all dogs need to be trained. No excuses. My 6lb dog is just as well behaved as my Doberman if not better.
