90s kid here, this og show still aired on TV back then it was one of my favourite anime lol I didn't notice the crazy amount of nudity in the original and I was like 10 years old watching it 😂😂
This show's definitely a poineer of my anime journey next to a few others. & I didn't realize till almost a decade later that it's the same writer for Inuyasha.
@@ReptilesPwnRodents Specifically, the episodes "S.O.S.! The Wrath of Happosai" and "Bathhouse Battle", both are based on manga chapters and both are comedic genius.
My biggest worry is that people new coming in to this think its' cliche because they've seen these jokes before... only this is where a lot of it first came from.
@@tedpair8219 Given the quality that MAPPA is doing, I believe that will not be an issue. Even an old joke will be received as funny as long as it is done well.
Yes!!! I didn't watch the remake in whole just via reaction vids (will do once I resubscribed to Netflix) but yeah Akane she didn't scan Ranma body like the OG 😂😂?
This was my first introduction into Manga. I remember finding it at a “Suncoast” video back in Brooklyn Kings Plaza mall. lol that mall was so much of me growing up I even worked at a footlocker and ezspirit. But this was so weird and different to me the rest is history.
i went into this same as you, seen a trailer and thought it was cool. was very surprised how much i liked this. old school vibes with the new coat of paint work very well, and i hadn't peeped it dubbed but the dub for this about the same as the sub so if you rockin with the English I say keep going for it
Bro you have to continue this anime reaction series, rumiko takahashi, the lady who made inuyasha, she made ranma 1/2, and it was the series she did before inutasha. It's got a bit of everything genre wise, it's a great story i highly recommend you keep with it!
LET'S GO Ranma 1/2, is a must-see classic. I remember that in France, there was a TV channel called Manga. It’s thanks to this that I got to know great animated classics of my sister generation, Yū Yū Hakusho, Dragon Ball, Hunter x Hunter and of course Ranma1/2.
Yeah, but the original has a great dub. This show so far feels like it's trying to mimic the sound of a typical bad 90s anime dub. Which is something Ranma ½ didn't have. I'm really hoping they're not trying to make "she's so not cute" into a catchphrase. It's very "Excuse me princess!"
"Not cute" is very much a catchphrase. However, it's somewhat unique. (Kawaiikune in the original Japanese) "Ranma you baka" becomes Akane's catchphrase. In the original Anime, Akane's voice actress even recorded a "Baka Song". Akane IS the origin of the Tsundere.
Ranma 1/2 is my favorite Rumiko Takashi property. I'm glad to see you're enjoying it. This issue with the original anime was it was being made while the Manga was being made, so there were plenty of "filler" episodes. It didn't take away from the series as Ranma 1/2 doesn't have a through line plot until the very end of the manga. I suspect and hope that this new series will follow the Manga, and we will get an ending that we never got for the original series.
Like a Dragon Ball remake where it retells the manga would be golden. I'd love to watch that with my bro. Ranma½ was the first manga I ever read, way back during elementary school.
Couldn't help but be distracted by the weirdo in chat claiming Ranma was ever on Toonami. Must've been thinking of Inuyasha because not only was Ranma never on Toonami, I even remember the Adult Swim commercial bumpers that SPECIFICALLY addressed the people asking about it and saying they WILL NEVER air Ranma.
Ja ja toonami lol that funny this anime wasn’t even licensee to pay on American tv because of the uncensoredship and it’s a unique anime lol he is a weirdo you right
Maybe it is a case of the same program hosting different series based on the country they are in? I remember people mentioning shows that existed on cartoon network that I do not recall existing on the swedish cartoon network, but instead was hosted on like disney XD for example pokemon black and white was hosted on swedish disney XD. But I remember seeing clips of black and white being hosted on CN apparently, but that never happened where I am, cartoon network never hosted pokemon black and white, it was disney xd that did.
It's almost beat for beat a remake of the original. There are some minor changes, but just tweaks here and there. This first episode is just perfect, setting up the curse and the main romantic conflict, snd nothing really needed to be changed. The show is basically a parody of shows like Dragonball amd Yu Yu Hakusho. Instead of marrtial arts battles that get more snd more over the top, it's wacky martial arts thst het more and more outlandish. Like Martal Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics, Martial.Arts Ice Skating, and Martial Arts Tea Ceremony. And most of the main cast are cursed to turn into various animals. And they're all either pursuing Ranma or Akane.
One of the great things about this remake is that many of the original voice actors from the previous work have returned, so I definitely recommend trying the Japanese audio at least once. But from what I’ve heard in your video, the dub isn’t bad either.
I would personally recommend the sub version. A majority of the Japanese voice cast from the original came back to voice their characters in the reboot. They sound the same which is wild considering how old the original is. If you prefer the dub though, you should watch it however you like
Loved your reaction!!! The dub is ok but personally i prefer the sub, cause the original japanese voices of Ranma and Akane has returned for the remake! Glad you already love, and it's just the first episode!!! Things will only get crazier and crazier, as more characters are introduced! This show is hilarious and the manga is phenomenal, last time they haven't adapted all the manga, but i'm really hoping this time they adapt all the manga arcs, especially the final arc which is really good! It's so much fun seeing a reaction to Ranma from someone who has no idea what's the show is about, please react to all the episodes!!! It's a pity they only release one episode a week...
Uuuugh what is this dub? "Not so bad for a girl right?" This is not something Ranma would ever say. He's a guy who got forcefully transformed into a girl and is not interested in being a girl. There is literally no reason he would say something like this when he is a guy at heart. There is also no one in this show that would ever think getting changed to a girl = weak so that line wouldn't make any sense. The actual translation for that should be "Bet that one hurt right?"
oh if you havent seen it ever then youre in for a treat. i personally say just go with sub. i hope they didnt take any scenes out due to times changing and whatnot
Watch the sub version. So many legendary level VAs are in it! In the dub, only the Akane VA does a respectable job, the rest are mid to really bad (Nabiki)
I am hoping they diverge some from the original. Akane isn't abusive, it's that the attacks on her every morning are treated as a joke.instead of seriously. If they follow the manga she should become gentler.
It's a slapstick comedy, and Ranma is an asshole who usually deserves it. It also absolutely deserves a remake. The old TV anime had bad pacing (not even from a story progression perspective, it just straight up didn't match the chaotic pacing of the manga - the OVAs were a lot better in this respect though) and never adapted some of the best arcs from the manga.
@@OtakuD50 I'm actually hoping Ranma doesn't quite have a tendency to eat his foot so much. There was character development later in the manga it just took so long and the powers that be kept resetting. Inuyasha had the same problem but at it made some progress
my old ass is so happy seeing the younger generations watching ranma 1/2. this manga/anime was my whole personality in the 90s
Same here, speaking of old ass, I can't wait for them to see Happosai when he gets introduced! "What a haul what a haul!"
I was a little worried about how it would be received now, I'm glad to see it seems to be doing good.

ranma is a classic, it was one of the bigger anime to make the cross to the west alongside the obvious sailor moon and dbz
Ranma is one of those insane shows you need to watch. The stories get so hilarious wacky over time.
"That he had coming."
