    For all the Christian trolls clicking on The Atheist Experience videos in order to comment in the comment section, thank you. It helps the algorithm so that these videos are recommended more. That way Christians and other theists are more likely to watch these videos and deconvert. It also helps other atheists feel less isolated so they don't wind up converting in order to just have community. It really grows the Atheist community!

      Maybe, one day, we will have the power to keep Christians from imposing laws and customs which benefit Christians from American society, all thanks to you of course.😘 With your help, we can ensure that the next generation does not become indoctrinated into Christian theology. That way they can focus more on science and, as many of you say, make America great. Christianity and other mythologies can finally die out and be put to rest in the halls of history were they belong.

      In order for anything to be made it takes an intelligent designer and a maker/builder. What some scientists and all atheists don't understand is the power of God/Jesus. It takes someone who has a spiritual relationship with God/Jesus, one who has born of the Spirit, born again, born from above, one who has excepted the free gift of eternal life. That's the only way one is able to understand the power of God/Jesus and his plan of salvation. No religion needed. just faith, faith plus nothing.
      Isaiah 43:7
      Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
      John 17:3
      And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

    • @talpine1225
      @talpine1225 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulgemme6056 First, we have observable evidence all around us that things can be created without an intelligent designer. Plants produce leaves, seeds, fruit and other things without being intelligent. Volcanos and other geologic processes produce rocks and other natural substances without intelligence. Natural chemical processes change molecules from one type into a different type of molecule constantly all around us. And so on.
      Now, I can already hear you typing that there is an intelligent being behind all of this. What evidence do you have of this intelligence? Saying that it exists or that you believe it exists is not evidence that it does exist. The question is what makes you believe that it does exist? I believe that an intelligent designer is not needed because I observe all around me things that are created without a need for an intelligent designer. Why do you believe that one is required?
      Second, the rest of your point (to the best of my understanding) is that there is an immensely (or all) powerful being that did all of this and all that is required to believe this power is the truth is to believe it exists. In other words, evidence doesn't matter, if you believe it's the truth then you will believe it's the truth. Personally, I have an issue with believing "just because." I do not mean to denigrate your belief with this, I just personally have a problem with believing something simply because the idea exists and someone told me it was the truth. I would like to know why I should believe it or what reasons the other person has for believing it.
      Also, I would ask this: If we accept that there must be some intelligent designer, how do you know that your version of that intelligent designer is the correct one? There are thousands (millions or more if you dig into specifics) of beliefs out there about various gods or creators out there. Many of these contradict each other and say that if you believe anything else, even to the point of believing all but 1 or 2 minor differences, you will be punished eternally. Why do you believe that your version is the correct one?
      I apologize for the wall of text, but if you have honest, thoughtful answers to any of my questions I would love to hear them

      @@talpine1225 Faith, that's all it took for me. Also looking at a Bengal tiger I thought to myself, thought for myself. This beautiful animal could not have just come into existence from particles that were caused by a big bang. That is ludicrous.

    • @talpine1225
      @talpine1225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@paulgemme6056 To summarize, I asked why you believe intelligent design is required and, if it is required, why you believe your version of the design is correct. Your answer to those questions, as far as I can understand and if you are indeed answering my questions, is that you cannot see how our universe could progress from the big bang to the existence Bengal tigers (as an example, obviously), thus you believe in your version of a creator.
      It follows then that if someone could demonstrate a reasonable, believable progression of steps that could start with the big bang and lead to Bengal tigers, then that belief would be forced into question. Whether or not this explanation is the truth, there would then be another believable explanation of why Bengal tigers exist other than that they were created. At this point what is there to convince me of one explanation (a creator) over another (natural, unguided processes)? Why should I believe in your version over the other?
      To depart from the hypothetical, there is evidence, observable and replicable, of many of the steps in the explanation of how the universe likely progressed from the big bang to how it is now through natural processes. There are also good explanations for the pieces that we don't have direct evidence for that continue to match up with how we see reality working as we continue to learn about it. There is far too much to go into to cover the specifics here, but the explanations and evidence are there to find if you go looking for them.
      Thus, the argument that it's unreasonable to believe that, for example, a Bengal tiger came about naturally, when these reasonable explanations exist, really falls apart. My questions from before then still remain: Why do you believe in intelligent design and in your version of it in particular? To put it another way, why is it ludicrous to believe that what we see around us came about unguided based on lifetimes worth of evidence and supportable explanations instead of believing in a creator (setting aside the question of then which creator is the correct one)?
      Again, I apologize for the walls of text, but these are complex questions.

    • @paulgemme6056
      @paulgemme6056 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@talpine1225 My answer to both those questions is faith and common sense. For me to believe that a piece of wood left on a workbench long enough would one day become a guitar, doesn't fly. There has to be a designer and a builder/maker. An eyeball is so complex it would have to take a master designer and builder/maker for something like that work the way it does. I believe in that/my maker with every part of my being. I have felt the force of his power/Love, which I cannot see. Just like I can feel the force of gravity when I fall off a latter, which I can not see. I don't have to see gravity to know it exists.

      I do disagree. I enjoy Matt destroying a professional in a debate format and generally agree with everything he says regarding these topics but for many of these calls he won't let the caller get to their main point because he is so picky about not letting any nonsensical argument go. I get that he doesn't want to let people spew their nonsense forever but he needs to be able to let them make their main point.... then tell them why they are wrong. Dave Warnock tried to get this caller to say their main point a few times. Matt is also so knowledgeable and such a dominant force that he often overshadows his co-host. So, he knows his stuff but he gets so aggressive with the callers, wanting them to speak properly that he won't let them get to the point. Most callers are not comfortable in a debate format and cannot argue their beliefs to a debating level. They simply hold a belief that they can't believe others don't agree with.

When others demanded that a Christian where to give a reason for his hope, he was to do so “with a mild temper and deep respect .” Though questions might be propounded in an insulting manner, the Christian would present his reasons with calmness and gentleness. • @starfishsystems
      @starfishsystems ปีที่แล้ว

      That's possible. It's equally possible that something else happened, some natural process not involving a god, and we're living in its "corpse" or better to say residue of that natural process.
      The Cosmic Microwave Background radiation would probably be a good example that sort of residue. (If we instead had found the skeleton of some huge dragon spread across billions of light years of space, we'd be trying to figure that out instead. But, significantly, that's not at all the sort of thing we find. Instead we see remnants of simple and energetically plausible, but still amazing, physical processes. We don't see mythic creatures.)
      The CMB is certainly a kind of "corpse" and we don't even have to speculate about its existence. It's an evidential fact. Though I doubt that it answers everything, still, a lot of work has gone into mapping its structure, in hope of gaining insight into some meaningful feature of the early universe.
      Alas, this sort of careful, data-driven, forward inquiry into the true origins of the universe are not what the caller wants to engage with. He's already got his "answer": now all he has to do is come up with some way to justify it. Too bad that honest investigation doesn't work that way.

      I've seen a few instances elsewhere. Their arguments are still uniformly fallacious, but the packaging is more professional. And absolutely nothing new is ever offered in the way of meaningful insight. It's quite sad, really, to find that all that scholarship has produced nothing better. Common themes are:
      • You don't understand the subtleties and sophistication of faith. Alas, it would take too long to explain. (Mumbo jumbo fallacy.)
      • You haven't sincerely tried to believe. (Peter Pan fallacy.)
      • Claiming the moral high ground, on no evidence. Also, shaming. (Old school, but still very effective on survivors of religious abuse.)
      • Various forms of Strawman Fallacy. (It seems that even among educated professionals, this is still just too irresistible not to try, even though it invariably backfires.)
      • Various forms of Appeal to Emotion. (This works for the flock but somehow doesn't have as much traction with skeptics. As the difference of opinion becomes uncomfortable, can morph into "let's ease this conflict and find common ground by having you compromise.")
      • Various forms of Appeal to Utility. ("Think of all the good that is done in the name of our religion, and how it couldn't conceivably be done simply for its own sake.")
      • Various attempts to shift the burden of proof. (Often disguised within a Strawman, but still fairly easy to call out.)
      • Affirming the consequent. (Usually introduced as a "hypothetical" which will later be quietly converted into a certainty.)
      • Various Equivocation Fallacies. (Typically on faith, but also on purpose, creation, morality, consciousness, information, communication.)
