  • I’m taking my S1000R on a 10 day tour through Europe, but is this really the right bike, and how do you make it work as tourer but still enjoy the amazing performance. I take you through my preparation and how I carry and what I need for this trip.

    personally I would not tour naked, because I feel like clothes make a great addition to my outfit.

      You may be right. In fact the rules air jacket is amazing.

    awesome bike! I have a 2008 z1000 and just did a 600 mile weekend trip - planning on a much longer trip in March across the continental US! The only real downside of our style of bike is the fuel consumption and relatively small gas tanks, but other than that it rides like a dream at any speed! Remember the best bike to tour on is the one you have!

      Great statement. I did 2.5k miles a couple of years ago and loved it. Enjoy your trips. I must get organising soon.

      It was amazing. Did 2k alps to Pyrenees. Never got round to video. But bike didn’t miss a beat. almost 3 years old now and no intention to sell it.

    I had the comfort seat on mine and the BMW bike specific (large) tail pack and tank bag. Worked really well and the tail pack in particular was super quick on/off the bike - and fitted perfectly. I also had the taller screen you are using here which is a no brainer. Oh and bar risers!

    Wife and I both love touring naked! She on a 675 Street Triple, me on an MT10. Did the alps last year and southern France down to Carcassonne this. Amazing fun bikes to have out there. We both use SW Motech Blaze panniers, yes there is a small bracket onto the footpegs for a support rod to click into but taken off the bike it looks pretty much stock. SW Motech tank bag on a tank ring also works well especially through the French tolls with their paper tickets. Had plenty of room for the drone. Cheers and have a good trip.

      interesting! no I took a street triple to the Nurberg and back and it almost killed me! as in it was a hard trip, yet the S1000R is a breeze in comparison! Blaze panniers are good my mate has them on his S1000RR. lost of editing ahead!

      @@PetrolHeadsLdn How far were you getting between fill ups on the S1000R? The only bad point with my MT10 is searching for fuel at 100 miles. I can completely empty the 17L tank at 120!

    • @PetrolHeadsLdn
      @PetrolHeadsLdn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s says 155 which I would say is about right. We tended to fill up about every 100 miles or so anyway usually no fuel light on. Need to avoid the fuel anxiety!!! Riding the passes could go several hours without seeing a petrol station.

    So glad to see this video! I'm picking up my new S1000r this week and was a little concerned about its touring credentials as I do a European trip every year with a couple of mates. Obviously this bike is great at most other stuff but touring was the one thing I was a bit worried about. Apparently I don't need to worry! Cheers.

      Also what crash protection did you go for in the end? You said in a previous video you didn't like R&G stuff, any particular reason?

    • @PetrolHeadsLdn
      @PetrolHeadsLdn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just done 2k on mine in 10’days. Didn’t miss a beat. Videos to come obviously. ;). You won’t regret it.

      Don’t like r&g as so big and bulky. I went for gab racing. There is a video on it. th-cam.com/video/rWDWGRDjwwk/w-d-xo.html

    A mate uses the sw motech blaze panniers on his keeps any weight a little lower down too but is a damn fine bike

    • @PetrolHeadsLdn
      @PetrolHeadsLdn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is a possibility but live these kreiga bags. And for the ones you speak of i think you need a frame attached to the bike.

    • @simonbeal2148
      @simonbeal2148 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PetrolHeadsLdn yes brackets fit on frame where footpegs are. And just locate the bar when you are going to use the panniers.

    What tail tidy do you have? How does it work in the rain? I’m worried that if I get the tail tidy I’ll be more soaked during ride outs in the rain.

    • @PetrolHeadsLdn
      @PetrolHeadsLdn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bought off a small uk manufacturer on eBay as I liked the metal design. no issues in the rain.
