I'm 63 i live in north jersey. I ride a 2009 FZ1 soft luggage nothing fancy at all. 97 thousand miles on her. Been to the great lakes down too north Carolina. Tail of 5he dragon and all the great riding down. I have people on the Blue ridge parkway think 8m nuts for touring on it. Retired on a budget so I make do. Honestly this bike is awsome. You can tour on it. My old ass is proof of it. Someday I hope to own a MT10 just a dream now lol. Great video. Gear is the most important thing.
I did two day trips on an FZ1, it was easy. People who complain "this bike isn't good for touring," well fine then, get off and walk if you think that's better. Riding a motorcycle down a highway isn't hard.
only bad thing for the FZ and MT liter bikes is the fricken gas milage ....My "EMP TEE" 10 gets a tad over 30mpg so the fuel light comes on like 95 miles the way I ride her. Otherwise Yamaha likely would have built an FJ TracerGT type bike and it could have been awesome in that case! Can you imagine a 200 mile range some wind protection and hard bags from the factory? With all the touring bells and whistles? Would have been the most versatile desirable bikes of all time!
Mt10 is great for touring, got a givi 3 piece hard luggage set for mine can load it up like a gs and still handles perfectly. Its super comfortable and has cruise control.
Sometimes gas stations have those “hot hands” pouches…. A pack of those shoved in the palm or back of gloves can help knock an edge off even in summer gloves!
I wasn't keen on doing long trips on my MT-10, but after mounting a Puig 8918W Touring screen, and some Koso heated grips, it's a great bike in lots of conditions and way more comfortable with the wind. I already had a box mount on it, so now it's pretty much perfect. I've ridden a lot of bikes, and this one is really hard to beat. Doesn't hurt to have the comfort seat, either.
OC Been there on the cold hands. Last year I tried to do a 5 day tour with new and cheap gloves. By day 2 I was willing to pay $200 for anything that would stop the pain. Premium hand coverings are a must for me from now on.
I wouldn't go on a 5 day trip with gloves I hadn't worn before. That's asking for grief. I did go on a 3 day trip once with a helmet that gave me a headache. Halfway through day 1 I exchanged it for a different helmet I ended up loving at Cycle Gear. That was so cool of them to accept a helmet with bugs on it as a return.
Hi.. Enjoyed that.. Thank you.. Have 2017 touring MT10 all black with comfort seat, cruise, panniers.etc etc.. great great bike.. wanted to add comment that as I live here in Ireland, we are used to changeable weather!!.. If caught out in summer gloves and it turns cold or wet without warning. I always carry mechanics latex gloves under seat and i can pop those under my summer gloves..helps alot to keep me dry(er) and warmer... Slainte!!
125 miles from the dealer and home on my brand new MT-10 today.. Comfort seat, no touring screen.. No problem at all.. Have the Puig touring screen waiting to be tested the upcoming weekend
@@RynoDineroYou should ask what I came from 😅 After owning a Tracer 9 I went all in Touring Mode and bought myself a Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer.. Realized that was way overkill for a bike that sees 1-2 trips a year and got myself an MT-10.. LOVE IT.. It’s a fighter jet on two wheels, comfort over distance is acceptable but the fun-factor is of the charts 😅
Interesting. I bought a ‘21 MT 10 a few months ago and rode it 40 miles home on the freeway at a “spirited pace” with the stock screen and found it tiring. I guess I’m just a weakling. Lol I ordered the Puig Touring screen that night and installed it as soon as it arrived. I’ve been really happy with the Puig screen. Congrats on the new bike!
I tour on my MT-10 with no windscreen. It is comfortable so long as I ride secondary highways. Freeways, which I hate riding, are exhausting after too long.
You need to get the Madstad Engineering windscreen. A bit pricey, but you get a permanent “bug screen” that looks similar to the low profile one in this video, and a quick release removable, and adjustable touring screen that fits on top of the “bug screen”. Super rad company and one of the best windscreen systems on the market.
@@aluisious sounds like the kind of thing someone who never tries new things says. Adjustable rear sets, adjustable levers, adjustable suspension, all these things because no one has the same body, and it’s unlikely anyone outside of Asia is close to the model they use for manufacturing Asian bikes, even European bikes aren’t going to fit everyone perfectly. Their system makes for the best possible aerodynamics no matter how your body is shaped, but they understand that most people don’t want a massive touring screen when they’re riding around town or hitting the twisties. It comes off in seconds with no loose hardware to worry about, and doesn’t ruin the look of the bike when you do so. Is it more complicated than a static windscreen, absolutely, but it’s also simple enough for a child to figure it out.
OC I've ridden the entire lower 48 with 2 bikes. I love to see you understand how it feels to tour. Also, I'm getting a Morgan Wallen vibe from you. get a haircut ;)
I just bought my Tron, 2024 MT-10, 2 days ago, only 63 miles thus far in Phoenix.... PHOENIX, it is 109 out. I have a Dodge Journey, I have to install a class 3-4 receiver, to place maybe a Harbor Freight 600 lb tongue ramp. I am moving across the country soon, and going to travel a lot. I love Tron thus far, my god she is an angry bike, will reward well an experienced rider, but she WILL kill you otherwise. She will be your best lover or take you to your grave
Honestly the mt10, ktm sdr, 990 duke, and mt09 are on my radar right now. I need to check insurance costs, but honestly they all seem to be better propositions for what i need vs what i currently have. Only issues i have is the reliability question from ktm so leaning yam
Invest in a SW Motech Street Rack with top case! I have one with the smaller ABS top case and it's handy for little trips and even drilled some holes for an optional Rotopax mount for a 1 Gallon Rotopax if I don't want to run the top case since it's called the Empty-10 for a reason 🤣
i love touring its just so good me and a few other gonna for for like 8 days ish from denmark to sweden and norway excited to see how it is on a 2011 s1000rr
Just curious, on a road trip like this, how often did you find yourself engaging the cruise control? I keep hearing in bike review vids how awesome cruise control is, but I'm curious to know, when it came to an actual, real, group road trip, did you find yourself actually using and benefitting from it often? Thanks!
Super confused on why you don't have the side luggage for a touring trip? The factory availability of side luggage is a major reason I'm considering an MT-10 (I've already kinda moved on to a Ninja SX though). Would have liked to see them on this trip to see how they worked.
Was that bell Mountain around the 11:47 mark? It looks familiar and I heard they paved it. It used to be a pretty hardcore offroad trail and I've camped and partied up there a good bit.
hey chase, are naked bikes superior? I love a fully faired bike its beautiful but naked bikes growing on me. when did you transition from sport to naked?
I've toured for thousands of miles. Many different countries all over Europe and every time we have a guy with a MT10 we are constantly stopping for fuel. Do not waste your time or money.
Wild that you would make this video now. This is exactly what I was looking for cause I am interested in picking up an MT10 and my two major questions are how will it handle some small touring and 2-up riding.
Depends how far you want to go and how often you want to fuel up. Helped a buddy of mine pick up a 2019 MT10. Fully stock and rode it back some 35ish minutes back home. Fuel tank was full and by the time we got back he was on reserve. They don't call it the Empty-10 for nothing!
I have a 2021 MT 10 and I recently did a 300 mile trip (one way) and it did well. As mentioned, fuel mileage is pretty poor, but it’s much better on a road trip than typical around town riding. Sure you won’t have the fuel range of a true tourer, but you’ll want to stop every 100 miles for a break anyway. The stock seat is terribly uncomfortable. Switching to the Yamaha comfort seat made a HUGE difference for me and was money well spent. I installed a Puig Touring windscreen and I love the wind protection it provides. I never ride 2-up so I can’t give any feedback on that front. Hopefully the other info helps some.
Hey @chaseontwowheels i have a question and i cant seem to find the answer anywhere online, maybe you can answer it. I have a 2020 MT10 and i wanna put the same saddlebags on it that you have but i have the tail delete kit on it, will the bags still fit with the turn lights under the tail?
The awful thing about seat bags of course is getting on and off the fricken motorcycle! The taller it is the worse it is! IOn my T9gt I finally bought the simple 3 olt plate rack which puts my Rigg bag far enough back so I can leg over my seat ....otherwise mounted on the passenger seat it is cowboy time. My 23 MT-10 has no easy provision for a rack like my tacer does so its YEE HAW getting on off
First of all, that wasn’t “touring.” 😂 Next, any experienced touring bike rider knows to ride with a “touring” windscreen, but like I said, a couple of hours away from home and riding on a mountain does not describe anything like a “tour” I’ve been on. Why don’t you ride the MT10 on a real tour like @ 10 days at 500 miles a day. Now that sounds a little more like a nice semi tour adventure then speak on whether the MT10 makes an ok touring bike. You guys crack me up….ride safe!

the hot hands are activated by the air so they'll really warm up while riding.
