The roads in Guatemala are so bad, but the way people drive hilux, I'm surprised that truck can take that much damage. In my opinion hilux is a really good truck. I wish they sell it here in USA .
I am from El Salvador and we only drive HILUX here. It is very nice and very powerful. now I live in the USA and I own a Tacoma. I love both but HILUX is a diesel mid-truck which makes a difference. If there were Hilux in the USA I would prefer a Hilux but I do love my Taco.
Hilux have a torquey turbo diesel engine makes the Hilux a great work horse.
The tacoma is available in 4 cylinders too..

We don’t even get a diesel in the United States. Just a v6 gas and a 4cyl gas. I have the 4cyl. Love it!
At my place, we use a 2000 toyota hilux single cab as a vehicle to transport palm oil and send it to the palm oil processing plant. Usually we load up to less than 2+++kg, or less than 6000lbs.
Toyota hilux single cab is very resistant to such heavy work. it is durable, rarely damaged even though its age has reached 20 years.
Now the price of toyota hilux single cab 2.4 liter or 2.8 liter here can reach up to 4+000myr or so 9+++usd.
Here in the upper Midwest of the US, Tacomas have a reputation for the frame rusting out. Some people “fix” them, but they can never be as good as new. I saw a great photo of a Tacoma on a hoist in a repair shop broken in two.
I owned a number of RN’s and a Tacoma, but will not buy another.
