  • Today I talk about one of the most underrated TV shows ever created and why you should give it a go. The show I am referring to is Inside No. 9, an anthology series created by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
    Episode Recommendations:
    12 Days Of Christine
    Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
    The Devil of Christmas
    A Quiet Night In
    Zanzibar
    Once Removed
    Cold Comfort
    To Have and To Hold
    Misdirection

We are beyond lucky to have Steve and Reece as writers and actors.. Thank you for this excellent introduction to this magnificent show. My favourite episodes are Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room and The Stakeout (I really like the episodes that focus on Steve and Reece) but also love Sardines, Cold Comfort, The Bill, Simon Says , A Random act of Kindness , Wise Owl and many others (really liked The Last Weekend and mother's ruin from series 8)

The thing about inside no 9 is the balance of quality is so skewed. Where a lot of anthologies are hit or miss, No. 9 is consistently interesting. Like at worst, it’ll be pretty good, and at best it’s one of the most phenomenal episodes of television produced that year

I'm so glad I get chance to meet them briefly when they went on tour for with a Q&A for Inside No9, brilliant show that constantly raises the bar for tv

That’s really cool you met them, I saw them live once on The League of Gentlemen tour.

Another episode reccomendation that doesn't get NEARLY enough credit as it deserves is Thinking Out Loud. I remember watching that one for the first time and being totally dumbfounded by the twist in it. Also the ending of it is absolutely incredible. Very simple episode, but one that will have your mind blown by the end.

Also a recommendation I'd add would be Diddle Diddle Dumpling, where an unusual story makes a total sense and hits ridiculously hard when everything falls into place, similar to 12 Days Of Christine

I love how the story seems silly at first but becomes serious, great episode.

I love those episodes! I've watched 12 Days of Christine several times - and it's one of the few things I've ever seen (films included) that gets to me emotionally every time.

A Quiet Night In (the silent one) is my favourite. Just almost perfect. I like Sardines too. Steve and Reece love to make the darkest kind of comedy where you are thinking 'This is messed up; I shouldn't be laughing at this.'

I've watched a handful so far, including Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room and Quiet Night In, but I watched 12 Days of Christine with my wife last night and it had a big emotional impact on us - my wife found it upsetting but I found it absolutely genius.
With most film and TV, I try to imagine the writer(s)'s processes, and think about how they came up with various ideas. With Inside Number 9 I can never actually put myself in Pemberton and Shearsmith's shoes because their ideas are so out-of-the-box I don't know where they get them from. Each half-hour episode would be a lifetime Magnum Opus for most other writers.
My favourite episode is probably the live one - even though I didn't catch it live.

    • @burdenofbest
      @burdenofbest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

They are amazing and yeah that live one is awesome. Also that’s an incredible way to watch film and TV thinking about how they come up with stuff and what influences the writers adds another level of insight to the viewing experience.

I really hope more people see this show, it's tragically under-viewed.
I'm guilty of the Black Mirror comparison, but I generally sell it as "If you liked The National Anthem and steadily lost interest after that, you'll like Inside No 9".
