Great review! I thought this was an exceptional episode and handled some dark topics in a way that few other writers, actors and directors could. It almost feels like they've been building up to this for years, having honed their own brand of dark humour since the League of Gentlemen and Psychoville, then mastered the art of short form storytelling in Inside No 9. Wise Owl is a masterpiece, and most definitely worthy of the hype.

This episode was great. I sincerely felt bad about Ronnie and when I saw what his father did to him I thought: This old guy is a scumbag; I really hated him and the ending was very fulfilling to me, I almost cried because the emotions was flowing.
    An excellent episode.

    I absolutely adored this episode
It immediately went into my top 3 and is easily my favourite of the season
It was incredibly dark but my goodness, it was effective
It probably features my favourite performance from Reece and the animations were iconic
Also, I think that the “special episode” of the season is meant to be Kid/Nap because split screen

The wallpaper in the bathroom looking like owl eyes watching.

"You look nice and shiny, do you want to see a starfish?" Ffs 🤣🤣 laughter in the dark if ever there was any. And absolutely creepy as hell too, goosebump inducing.

Steve and Reece always get praise but the actors throughout the shows also deserve praise. Who'd have thought Mr Crabb from Mr Selfridge could be so sinister? Ron Cook is an amazing actor.

This episode was a great commentary on the over-romanticisation of the 1970s and other late postwar eras. Like taxidermy, nostalgia has all of the celebrated era's uncomfortable truths, social mechanics or guts if you will, removed and what is left is just an abstraction of that era. The 1970s in the UK at least, is often spun by many as the final chapter of the nuclear family, consensus politics and social certainties as if these were unceasingly virtuous and superior to what we have now with everyone living in cosy carpeted living rooms in a permanent sitcom surrounded by tinsel, flares, platforms and the waft of the chip pan on a Friday night coming from the kitchen all seasoned by the salt of the earth with "common sense". As someone who remembers the era like Reece and Steve I guess, there was a lot of ghastly shite too including children often being perilously voiceless like Ronnie and completely subsumed by the abuse of shady adults. Some might say these days that they do not recognise the country now when viewing old commercials etc. Athough thankfully my own 70s early childhood was a happy one, I do recognise the world in this episode and I don't want it back. -AZ.

Great video, love seeing more Number 9 content on TH-cam, I’ve subscribed. Anyway, this episode is one of the best of the show in my opinion, top 5 for the show. The animation was amazing, the horror before the big twist genuinely unnerved me, the performances (especially Reece’s) were fab. And that ending, it’s so dark, so brilliantly revealed, but the fact that Ronnie doesn’t kill his father, but walks away to get help I think is possibly the most profound thing Steve And Reece have done in their career.

Do you mean when he greets them with a "twit-you, twit-you" (resembling of an owl's cry "hoo-hoo" and a mildly derogatory term for someone foolish)?
