How To: OVERTAKE Respectfully... in karting

  • How to overtake in karting, the respectful way... There are three key takeaways here: 1. Unless the other driver made a mistake, wait for a good corner before attempting an overtake, 2. Make sure you are fully alongside, otherwise it's still arguable their corner, 3. Give them the space on exit. If you timed it right, you'll still have the exit speed. ⁣

    I wish i had a track like this near my house. The only one I have is basically the Monaco of kart tracks. It can barely fit 2 karts side-by-side and the corners are super tight, making it almost impossible to overtake unless your opponent makes a big mistake, like spinning out. There are only 2 corers where you can sometimes send it up the inside, but that's about it.

    Let’s be honest most serious karters are dirty.
    It’s very very rare in my experience to see respectful drivers who leave enough of a gap without deliberately slamming the door then getting the marshals attention so that you get a penalty.
    Also I’ve raced against a lot of guys who deliberately tap the rear corner to punt you off line.
    2 guys I raced with a lot: Mike seabourne and Oliver Bayani were exceptional for their ability to be fast, and find ways to win while being completely clean, I respect drivers who can do that because I think there’s a higher skill level to that kind of racing.
    Honestly though most karters are dirty and will defend their positions to the point of being obtuse.

    As a general rule, overtaking on straights by getting a significantly better exit is the safest way, but this works too (although the opponent in the video clearly was less skilled). Just don't be one of the dive-bombing idiots cutting people off, and you'll probably be okay.

    Props to the other guy for giving way once he realized you were exiting the prior corner faster. I race full size cars and I cant stand drivers that wont give way and dart in front of you right before you hit the apex. Most of the time its not even so they can follow a driving line, its just to prevent you from following yours.

    • @joshuagleeson4776
      @joshuagleeson4776 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll always be able to improve your lap times a LOT before weight will really start to limit your potential. Weight makes a big difference, but only when comparing drivers of equivalent skill levels. You can still get very close to a track record, only you're unlikely to beat it unless you're just that good.
