    Great video. I can’t believe that is the Lucky Star. I fished on that boat from 1990 to 1994 salmon in Alaska sardines San Francisco, squid and sardines out of San Pedro. Good to see she still working.

    I would’ve taught “I could go fish like hundreds of fish with a boat” then I saw these processes that should be accurately taken step by step. Now I know it has to be LEARNED!!!
    This is BEAUTIFUL!!!

    Next time you order salmon at a restaurant and it comes with a boot mark on its face - it came from this boat.

    • @johnnygee5639
      @johnnygee5639 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you order Chum from a restaurant, your a f**king idiot and you should do a little research before you order Salmon again. The one thing you might order from I high end restaurant would be and caviar / the eggs from this type of salmon. So unless your a plant or a cat/dog then I don't recommend ordering Chum / dog Salmon from any restaurant. Sorry for being so direct but I work in this fishery and to come off as if they ar stepping in the fish on purpose is a very improper statement and these guys are busting there ass. Let alone people don't usually eat the meat of these salmon, mainly the eggs. You want good salmon then order Sockeye (Red) Salmon or King Salmon or Coho (silver) Salmon. Stick to those 3 then you will have a good meal but don't order Chum (dog) Salmon or Humpy's (pink) Salmon. Have a good day!

      The plunger is shaped to project a loud 'pop' down into the water in order to scare the fish back into the net. Before the half-purse (when the rings come up and are pinned with the hook) there are plenty of places for the fish to escape. The plunger guy tries to prevent that. Some boats even have a guy plunge at the stern before the gear has started to come over the block.

    Ok a few questions answered. These fish are all for human consumption. Costco sells them as salmon burgers, the roe or eggs are extremely valuable served as Ikura in sushi restaurants the milt is eaten in Japan also. There a very few negative aspects to this program, the most negative is the concentration of the effort can make a few unpleasant experiences between the boats.the most valuable aspect here is the fact that these are new dollars not value added dollars and the hatchery program is paid for by a cost recovery program derived by a portion of the catch.

      @@vpcha Can't you read ? it's a fish FARM !
      Fishes are raised in cages that can be as large as 1 km in diameter. Boat casts its net in the middle of the cage.
      Sadly enough this type of fish population increases as much as chicken population increase in a chicken FARM.
      Watch how salmons don't fight and die very fast on this video. If you ever saw a WILD salmon fight against being trapped in a net you would see the difference !
      Worse : they feed those fish with fish meat and other dry meat powder to which they add antibiotics, anti-fungi and other GMO by throwing whole buckets of them in the water. The stuff which isn't immediately eaten by captive fishes goes out in the open water and wild fish in the surroundings are contaminated by GMOs. This sometimes change their genetics… which in turns changes the species.
      That's what's dangerous about those farms.
      So what is not environmental friendly is the contamination of wild salmons nearby those farms. Not the fact that fishermen in this video catch too many fish.
      Cheers !

      There eggs! There eggs are the most sought after out of all the salmon that the eggs is what makes these fish so worth the effort. This year dogs (chum) went for $1.20 a lb and they average about 5-12 pounds. I read somewhere that this was about 60,000 pound set which if it was then each "bag" they filled would be about 10,000 lbs. The reason to fill the bags is because if they tried to bring them all on board at once would roll the boat and or they would come over the rails. Anyways I hope that answered some of your questions.
