    It seems to me that the crew on this boat is pretty green and eager to do a good job, but the guy in charge has no idea how to get the best performance out of his crew. He has a "the beatings will continue until moral and performance improves" sort of attitude. Were I on this crew for my first trip, I would have quit once arriving at the dock. I refuse to work for jerks!

    Seeing a lot of comments from people that obviously have no idea what it's like to work in this industry lol. They could have ran it a lot smoother but I'm sure an opener or two after this and they were running a lot more smoothly.
    Also, holy shit do i miss Alaska. Outside of Sitka at 2am and standing on the back deck listening to tunes and watching the northern lights is a memory that will live rent free in my brain forever.

    The boat holds needs a sloping hopper to accept fish coming on board, save walking on, being pushed around by boots etc. Have they ever heard of a wooden board rake. Was the crew ever shown what to do in sea trials, and the lifting rope system looks very antiquated and not fluent in operation. Very poor directions given by the skipper to his crew. I've seen many European ships handling far larger catches and the ship are designed to minimize catch spoilage, and speedier storage of equipment and product

    • @michaelshotts6482
      @michaelshotts6482 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This all normal for seiners. Also there is no spoilage on seiners, the fish dont stay onboard long enough.

    Sorry I hit post accidentally. Clearing the web from over your open hatch. But this will also keep the web higher up on the deck and that In turn well cause the web to pull higher up towards the top of your picking boom causing a pouring affect to happen. And your guys will not even touch your gear. That should only take 10 to 12 min. Max to get that set out of the water. The skipper is the one that does all the work with the hydros. But I will say that a great set good job and thanks for sharing it with use. I can’t tell from the if your picking booms a long enough, lots of guys get that part of there rigging wrong. Your picking booms have to be hi enough to make it easy on the fish recovery.

      @@sandmors7998 I spent ten years up there in the 90's. My last gig was purse seining in Chignik which was a sweet fishery comparatively. The following year many of the Captains there left their boats dry and crewed on their friends boats as F&G became more and more restrictive. Crab jobs were really hard to find then. I assume Deadliest catch must have caused a flood of young dudes looking for work further saturating the market for deckhands.

      You need to go outside your crib and go view other boat operations, setups and and product handling. Especially the European boats, they handle far larger catches, quicker and cleaner. And maybe you should train your crew by doing some sea trials first. In Australia we do numerous shots all timed until we are ready to go fishing. If a crew member can't cut the mustard they're off and replaced. Look up Australian Prawns. These boats are speciafically built to do a job including weighing packing and cold storage all whilst catching. good luck
