You can just see the "Oh shit...I made a mistake" look on Alicent face. She desperately wanted to believe that King Viserys wanted Aegon on the throne. The sad truth is he didn't and that deep down she always knew that. He never loved her children like the way he loved Rhaenyra. He wasn't the best father but Rhaenyra was always his favorite. I mean the man got out of his dying bed to defend her.

It is all about the intent. The other one was assassination attempt that, if failed, would be politically very bad for the Greens. This one is 2 ex friends on the opposite side of the war trying to find solution. At least it is what Rhaenyra wanted. She risked a lot and her character is even more likable. But also she overrestimated Alicent's influence in the matter. As Alicent said, it is too late. I doubt anyone in Black court would think this a good idea, it is the biggest risk they made.

the only thing i can think about this working is that rhaenyra hasn't been seen by the common people in a such a long time and neither by people of the faith of the seven. so the septons and septas wouldn't recognize her. if the area is clear of most other nobles save alicent maybe.... but it's still such a risk.
i think the dumb thing about the twins (which you 're right the show does frame overall as stupid) is that it's very much a what then kinda plan. like you kill Rhaenyra do you think daemon targeryen just lets that go? there's no strategy behind it, just like the murder of jaehaerys

I think part of Alicent knows that, if she says what happened, it'll sow a seed of doubt *just* enough that it'll weaken her side. If her side is weak, then her children and remaining grandchild are in danger (or so Otto has DRILLED into her head). If Aegon doubts himself any more, he won't have the strength to make sure the Greens win and, if that happens, then they're all dead.
Remember: she thinks Rhae and Damon killed Laenor by *burning him alive* so that she could solidify her place on the throne. She also believes that Rhaenyra doesn't have the sense of religious honor she does.
All of these characters are also experiencing these events *in real time*. No one remembers what war between dragon riders is like. No one has good records of it (I assume those all went up in smoke with old Valyria). She has survived the past 20 years of her life (y'know, as a 15 year old girl married to Viserys as he wastes away in front of her) by putting all of her mental energy into her children and all of her emotional energy into her faith and her duty as a Queen and Dowager Queen. Even doing risky back channel meetings for this to happen, like with the Cuban Missile crisis each side has weapons of mass destruction so going to extreme length to prevent a war is believable the difference both sides had people in power who wanted to avoid conflict. This scene confirms to her that both sides have been radicalized by the deaths and now there is no way all out war with dragons is avoidable. It also reaffirms that Viserys never lost faith in her and now she is not only fighting to claim her throne but to keep realm strong for the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy.

Not a single female character in this entire show is half the character Cersei Lannister, Sansa Stark, Margaery Tyrell or Daenerys Targaryen are, and that tragic considering how good the source material is.
I’m loving a lot of aspects of this series, but the white washing they’ve done to the women in this show is astounding.

Is that really what you want? Another decade of a Cersei Lannister type?
I'm not looking for the same story told with different actors like Star Wars has been.

Alicent skipped history class one day and she missed that bit of the Targaryen history

Ridiculous that rhanyera would sneak into kings landing like this ....for this. Especially after the twins situation.....meaning everyone would be on high alert at this time.. and not just sneaking into enemy territory for a conversation smh

I feel like this meeting will damage the reputation of both women. Rhaenyra will be seen as a fool for literally walking into the enemy's den, while Alicent will be seen as a traitor for meeting with Rhaenyra (even if it wasn't planned) and letting her escape without revealing her to the guards.
