The tree tells me when it has recouped energy and needs its first prune: when leaves harden off and the cuticle forms. Good video, you're right, beginners do tend to prune too early and too often and nice show at the nursery.
Very nearly mentioned this in the video Brian but got to thinking that it’d start to get too lengthy for beginners. Worth another short of its own soon I think 👍
Thank you, I was that beginner as well Ash, you both give such useful tips for novices like me. hope to come up and see you at end of May
Thank you Roy, hope to see you soon 👍
Great advice, as usual. Enjoy the Spring. Thanks, keep growing
Thanks Matt, best time of year 👍
Useful information as always, Adam and Ash. You've convinced me to step away from the scissors for a few more weeks!
No problem Martin, thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for watching Paul 👍
Good info 👍
Thanks Rob 👍
I just take the centre tip out to encourage back budding, apart from 1 maple all my Maples are in full leaf and have been left out all winter.

Foisting 🎉
Pfft mine are still asleep up here in the north lol 😂
Going to me cold next week as well I think Rob. Thanks. Adam 👍
Where are you based?
Sheffield, Yorkshire, U.K.
It’s my dilemma…I see some pale or yellow leaf inside the canopy and I have to pinch and defoliate early, with soft unmatured leaves 🥲
Certainly a question of timing Jota and not easy. Thanks for watching 👍
Ok the scissors are put away 😄
Won’t be long Matej and they will get some work ✂️ 👍
