How do you know when the pump needs to be replaced? I have a truck that the power steering works fine when its cold but after it is driven and then if you are backing into a dock where you have to stop the steering wheel is very hard to turn if the engine rpms are not up a little. Its nearly impossible to turn if the truck is idling so I have to get the rpm's up and then its fine. Would this be a pump problem?
Good informational video. my question is to bleed the system should I keep the resevoir cap off to let air bubbles escape or keep it on and tight while truck is running and moving the steering wheel back and forth?
I replaced my king pins , drag link and joints 8 months ago but my drag link went bad agaain recently. I changed the drag link again, but the steering fluid keeps bubbling inside the reservoir. Is that a bad symptom from the pump ? It was bubbling and leaking a bit from the cap. Now that i got a new cap on it , it just bubbles.
Thanks for your videos! I replaced my power steering pump and changed fluid and filter. Then i started driving down the road and it started whining really bad. So i had to stop and turn around. Its a 2010 cascadia Do you think it could be a defective pump from dealer
Hey man thank you for the videos. can you help me man having a problem with 2012 Freightliner Cascadia the truck & steering wheel, shakes and vibrate in high speed. When speed between 40-55 only and it stops and everything's normal, you know what causes them. Thank you.
Kudos on the vid but it's not always necessary to remove the hose from the cap - Leave hose on cap then turn cap counter clockwise from about 3 O'clock @ the hose to 12 O'clock and cap comes right off without having to remove hose from cap - Takes less then a minute to do it - Easier then removing the radiator cap when you use both hands , 1 on the cap 1 on the hose to help it follow the cap
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY why did you replace the air compressor? Was it not building up air pressure? Cuz thats the problem im having with my 2013 prostar maxxforce 13l engine. Truck won't build up pressure at all and I was told its the compressor.
I wish you showed how to get those 2 bolts out. I had drained the oil and disconnected hoses but couldn’t get that 1 bolt out which is on inner (engine) side.
@@1HSYURIDIA shit. I’ve been putting that “clear” power steering fluid from loves. Right now it’s real hard to turn. I have to turn real wide and pull the s&$t out of my steering wheel. Any ideas?
The fact that you are even giving the sizes of the bolts is great, most people won’t give you that much detail.
Wow, this helped me with my cdl understanding where the power steering pump was located. Thank you for your post.
Here for the same reason lol
One more here with the same question hahha
Same. I need to see the air compressor
What was the power steering pump doing to where you needed to change it

It could be your king pins. Check your steer tires for lumps.
Check your king pins
Check your drive shift

You just need an extension for the ratchet for the inner bolt

sometimes my power steering has no power when im turning, sometimes the pump whines like low on fluid, but it isnt. pump going bad?
Try to replace the filter on the reservoir
Replace filter and fluid
Remember is transmition fluid.
Not power steer fluid.
