I finished me pond block work today Charlie, 11 trench blocks high laid on there sides, first time laying blocks and I think it’s a cracking job, just followed what you boys do, corners first, use the level plenty and don’t have the muck to dry. Thanks for the training buddy 👌👌👌
I’ve been a great admirer for decades of English brickwork & all the different bonds & brick types. I’ve seen so many over the country. Great to see Charlie & co. keeping it going; notwithstanding all the good brickie’s around the U.K. (& of course their support gangs)👍 No need snagging your work Charlie; what’s the point.
You.are a craftsman , I've been a bricklayer for 42 years . Keep up the good work, your videos should be a training aid for anyone thinking of joining our club

@@lawrencecarlin4023 Mr carlin. When I was working in London (a long time ago) all the work we we're doing at the time was restoration and refurbishment. I'm sure you're aware but most of the bonds in London are Flemish, English garden etc and all our closures, Queen closures headers/bats for single skin we're all cut on a clipper saw and allowed to dry before we were allowed to use them. Back then doing that work I was in my early 20s and hadn't been "house bashing" before. If you laid 250 brick back then you'd had a good day believe it or not. None of this bucket handle jointing etc. It was either weather struck or flush pointed and brushed back.. How I miss those times

Whilst I done my apprenticeship in London learning these bonds and styles of pointing, the "Westminster smudge" wasn't acquired on any of the jobs that I was on. I was working mainly on "the boltons" just by Stamford Bridge. Not far from Fulham Broadway. Was a brilliant experience and place to learn the trade. But sadly it wasn't sustainable (I live in brighton) travelling was a nightmare to say the least. But I was lucky not many, if any learn the different bonds and pointing styles nowadays
Hi pal...love your posts...just a quick question....on the garden wall... Header course..i noticed you put a 3/4brick at the end ... I may be old fashioned...but I always out a stretcher then a queen closure to bring it back to header bond ...is this a thing of the past now ?
@@martin2466 Friday was a bit brutal I won't lie. Was fairly warm, I've lost a bit of conditioning! I.e put on a few pounds and holding the trowel felt a bit alien for the 1st hour. By 3ish the foot had swollen so, I called it a day. The lads were happy! Monday didn't do much as was rather wet, today worked until lunchtime. Felt my speed was back today though. But its been I nice introduction back really. Nothing too stressful. I feel I need another 2/3 weeks until its fully healed but we'll see. How're you keeping?
engineers all over the country don't know what brick coursings are... the amount of times we have to point out to different engineers that houses/garages/walls attaching to each other have to course, when they have shown it 100mm etc, is crazy.
most are not engineers they just have a hnc in construction studies a civil engineer has a degree in civil engineering the word engineer is used just about for any manual worker eg gas fitters calling theselves engineers shocking in most countries it is the highest proffesion above a medical doctor

The one thing that I'd hate as a bricklayer is having to wear a hardhat 24-7 on the job.I was never one that liked wearing a hat.even in cold northeast winter day's I never would wear a hat.I just hated it.

Iwas always told that if it is more than 3 courses of stretchers then a header it was called American bond
