      Your point of analysis is spot on, but i favor Barkley, because i feel it would have been easier for him to succeed playing along Stockton, than it would have been for Malone to play in Phila., with Cheeks for a short period, and the other sub par PG's that had the helm with the Sixers .. Remember Barkley at times led the break after securing the rebound. Barkley had guard instincts.. Malone could never have handled that responsibility.

    Malone was a much more well rounded player. Making NBA 1st all defensive team while also contending for scoring titles is insane. Also having as long and consistent careers as Malone and Stockton had is no coincidence. It takes so much work on and off the court year after year especially in-between NBA seasons. It’s such an undervalued trait when comparing players like this.

      You can say all that, but anyone who watched those two guys knows that Barkley was the more dominant player. Barkley always performed well in the playoffs. Whereas Karl Malone was far too inconsistent in the playoffs. Charles also made his teammates better than Malone did. Malone does have the defensive edge over barkley, however I regularly saw Barkley will his teams to playoff victories much more than Karl Malone.

  • @jimb8695
    @jimb8695 3 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    Although I loved to watch Barkley play, my favorite was always Malone. He was built like a tank, and his work ethic was second to none. He started his career in mid 80s, played in a tough physical era, and retired when he was 40. Never for once I saw him out of shape. Barkley on the other hand was already in the twilight of his career when he joined Rockets. Also, people often mention the role of Stockton in Malone's career. But it is also true that because of the Mailman, John was piling up on those assists. I think Karl and John made each other better basketball players. They made pick-n-roll an art, and it's just a damn shame that they didn't win at least one championship together.

    Head-to-head between 1984-1994: Barkley averaged 23.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.9 steals per game on 54.7% shooting while Malone averaged 24.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 51.1% shooting.
    From this we see that at Barkley’s own peak in their head-to-head matchups he was a more skilled all-around player in terms of having the ball in his hands and a more ferocious rebounder and efficient scorer than Malone. Malone’s better conditioning though led to him sustaining a much longer career peak than Chuck and he began to usually best him in their matchups after the 93-94 season, with Malone’s passing and playmaking continuing to improve during these mid-90s years as Barkley’s own individual dominance as a player was fading.
    So from 1989-93 I take Chuck but by 95 onward it’s The Mailman by a country mile. If Chuck stayed under 250 he would’ve probably had a much more gradual drop off though nobody but Lebron matches Malone’s late-career consistency.
    TLDR: Malone’s work ethic solidified his overall career peak as being more impressive in total, however pure ability-wise on the court Barkley was more dominant head-to-head during the time he was at his very best.

      Barkley would will his teams to wins in the biggest of games, and he made his teammates better more than Malone did.
      What people also fail to recognize is that malone scored the majority of his points off of one of the greatest pick n roll players in john stockton, while Barkley scored way more of his points in iso situations yet still managed to have a better career shooting percentage than malone in the regular season and playoffs.

    Good video for sure I thought Malone would win in the beginning but you made your case good.
    Me nice to have a Vince Carter's vs Dominique Case

    If you add the eye test, Barkley win that more easily. Watching him play was breathtaking, was unique.

      Barkley was an uncontrolled beast and nothing breathtaking there. Malone was more of a calculating beast.

    Good pick, I definitely think Barkley beats out Malone. Prime > Longevity

    Late 80s Barkley was something to see. People forget that Chuck led the league in dunks 3 years in a row. Not Dominiqe, Not Jordan. He was also screwed out of the 1990 MVP. From about '87 to '94, Barkley was the second best basketball player in the world. We will never see another like him
